From: "Clint Spaar" <cspaar@top.monad.net> Subject: Analog>R300>CDR? Date: Sat, 7 Mar 1998 20:22:56 -0500 Hi all, Is it possible to just use the D>A converter on my Sony without recording to tape, and running the D-out to record CDRs? Would the SBM function work also? Thanks for any replies, Clint
From: "David D. Rogers" <drogers@lightlink.com> Subject: Tori Amos taping policy? Date: Sat, 07 Mar 1998 18:31:35 -0800 \Does anyone know what Tori Amos' policy or attitude is towards tapers and tape trading? I haven't heard anything definite. The closest thing I've heard/read about her attitude is that she hates bootleggers, but mainly because most bootlegs are of poor quality and she feels the fans are getting jipped. At the same time, I've never heard of anyone taping her shows without stealthing. If she were to develop a clear policy (if she doesn't have one already), it would certainly make things easier for me. :) Thanks, <> David URL me at http://www.lightlink.com/drogers/ -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- "You can kill a thousand; you can bring an end to life; you cannot kill an idea." --Former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres on the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin (1922-1995) ================= Do you believe in telekinesis? From: "John Blackmore" <blackmor@iconn.net> Subject: ISO: CT Unideckers & Re: D>A Etiquette Date: Sat, 7 Mar 1998 23:32:13 -0500 First off, just thought someone might like to hear the results of my D>A etiquette survey - it was unanimous that filling side A and putting the complete song on side B is the right way to go, no apology needed. What the hell, they're getting D>A copies! I must say I'm relieved as it means I don't have to sit there and time it. Thanks for responding. Moving on, I'd like to find a fellow unidecker in Connecticut (or Poughkeepsie area, NJ, anywhere that's not ridiculously far) to combine forces with and clone some DATs. I have lots of Dead and some Phish thanks to some generous B&P offers, but I'm always looking for other bands. I'm tired of grovelling, don't wanna trade analog much more, and don't have the $$$$$$$$$ for a new deck (yet). I'd rather trade! I found one volunteer on digiphish, but like I said, I'm looking for other bands, too. Please e-mail if interested. Thanks. John Blackmore blackmor@iconn.net P.S. - if it helps sway you, I'm going to try to tape both nights of Phish in Providence.
From: Daniel Mahoney <mahoney@mail.dcache.net> Subject: portable Headphone amp Date: Sun, 08 Mar 1998 00:43:39 -0500 There's been some discussion about headphone amps powering Etymotic Canal-phones ( and other headphones ) and the possible need for more amplification. So I wanted to pass along this info I found tonight : http://onramp.uscom.com/~soundpro/headamps.html this looks like an ideal solution. And for under 50 bucks. I can't recommend it cause I've never used or seen one- but from what I see hear I'm buying one. I can't imagine anyone generous >enough to start over, and I refuse to believe this doesn't happen to anyone >else! Is a note even necessary? Personally, I wouldn't send out a tape like that, even with a note, although the person who gets the tape can usually fix the situation by simply re-recording silence (or filler) over the cut music on the "missed flip" side... You don't need to start over, though. What I do in such situations is to simply rewind the analog deck back to where the flip was missed and record "silence" over that material to the end of the tape (record with no input signal or the "record mute" function on). That way, no problemo, nothing to explain, and your "mistake" is "covered". It's cool that you're doing D>A...I also find it gratifying to spread the music to less the obsessive/committed to taping ;-)...it wasn't so long ago that I regarded my DAUD-1s from my taper friends as among my most treasured possessions! From: udo@dinges.xs4all.nl (Udo van den Heuvel) Subject: 20 bits into D7? Date: 08 Mar 98 09:29:07 +0100 Hello All! Since I take up too much of Greg Hanssens time I'll ask my question here: the Zefiro inbox has a 20 bit ADC which sends 20 bits to the DAT, a D7 in my case. Since the D7 can only record 16 bits onto tape the 20 bits are cut off at the lower end to make the data 'fit' on the tape. Since these are the lower order bits - polluted with noise - it's no big deal, but what may the consequences be? I'm sure the Inbox will be an improvement over the ADC of the D7 but can I hear the difference in quality (16 vs 16 minus noise audio bits)? Can I hear the effects of the D7 cutting off the lower bits? Can an expert provide some insight? Or someone with some experience with the Inbox? Greetz, Udo --

I am sure our lawyer friends here can probably point out how UNexclusive they are. I bet you have exclusive rights to broadcast the internet show only. Anyhow, I glad we are going to eat into your bottom line by forcing you to buy metal detectors, and make sure your are going to have both male an female security. Yep! Gonna have one of your male goons pat down women in the crotches as they come in. Maybe you need metal detectors too, eat more into your profit. Of course there will be those who walk past your heavy handed security to be handed thier deck from their bartender/waitress friend. I bet there are spots in a given venue where one could go a few days early and safely leave a deck without anyone finding it. I think you need to learn the lesson that no security is perfect. A 11 22 33 44 ---- where 11 22 33 44 are the 4 number groups I'm assuming that 11 and 22 are for the A head and 33 44 are for the B head. Am I correct? Assuming this, do the pairs go together (as in high and low grouping) or do they have other meanings. And, why is it I generally only see readings on 22? I've never seen readings on any of the others unless the deck is searching or in pause mode. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated!!!! -- John
