Hi, I'm interested in trading for Foo Fighters shows. Preferrably from 1997
or 1998, but will consider trading for any Foo show I don't have on dat.
I've got a fair amount to trade, including some '98 shows. Also interested
in getting some Nirvana, especially 1991 shows. I've recently seen someone
selling Foo shows (from DAT) on CDR. I'd prefer that you didn't ask me for a
trade if this is your plan. Thanks.

I recently purchased two 3" TDK CDR's (part number CD-W08EL) from a local
music store. Problem is, they aren't very helpful in trying to obtain any
more for me. Does anyone have a source? I need 10 or so...

In addition to the amazing low price of $604 for brand new Sony
D100's, the DAT Store is overstocked on certain other items, which
are being offered at never-before-seen low prices!
However, the manufacturers of these items won't let us "advertise"
these low prices (we'll get flamed!) Therefore, you must email me
(or phone the store) if you'd like to know the low prices on these
items. Please do, you won't be sorry!

Tascam DA-30mkII
Otari DTR-8S

-->email gdavis@loop.com for the prices!

Hi,
I am looking to get some Spiritualized shows on DAT. I recently picked
up all of their studio albums and am really craving a taste of their
live shows. I am going to be taping them twice in the next few weeks
but I would like to get anything out there from them. Please let me
know if you have anything to trade.
Thanks,
Ed

That's interesting information, but "digital audio" does not equal
"digital audio tape." To my knowledge, DAT was not around until
the mid-80s, and it was certainly not around in 1976 when the tape
he was referring to was recorded. The earliest use of any digital
technology in recording concerts was in the early 80s with the
advent of PCM, to my knowledge.

How about player pianos?
"Digital audio" has been around forever, if one uses the right
interpretation.
I think though, that the time of interest in this mailing list is when
digital *recording* (from analog sources) came about, that being 1981,
approximately.

Does the person who was taping the Rainravens at SXSW happen to be on
this list. Love to talk to you or anyone else who might have taped
these guys at anytime. My mics went south the first night of the
festival, and I wasn't up and running until Friday morning thanks to the
gang at American Digital. Also looking for anyone who might have taped
the Doolittle Records Party at Club de Ville.

I read in the English mag Hi-Fi News and Record Review that
digital audio was used for military radio transmissions in
World War II as a form of code. So we have:
digital radio = 1940s,
digital musical instrument (organ) = 1967 patent, 1971 production.
Anybody know when & who made the first digital hi-fi audio recording?
First I recall was Dr. Tom Stockholm sometime in the 1980s.

If one is recording a "more or less" constant sound (or for that matter
vibration)source (IE very little dynamic range) and wants to do spectral
analysis (with the ultimate goal of relating them (sound and vibration) to
the bigger picture (which includes materials' properties, overall design,
etc). While it might be better to max out the record levels (IE so that
the recording comes out more or less say like 0.5 dB below "Over"
throughout) as there are more bits, I'm wondering if its necessary. IE:it
may be more trouble than its worth since you now have more data than
perhaps is necessary. Can someone with spectral analysis knowledge comment
on this? Basically I'm wondering if it might be advantageous to have the
recording average about 12dB below "over" instead of maxing it out so that
its just below "over" throughout..............Thanks, Pete

Medeski & Wood, and more importantly to me, Vernon Reid, were guest

I know somebody here surely must have recorded, or know somebody who
recorded this gig. I have tasty tidbits to offer in return.
My friends & I were barred from entering because when we got there, the

Howdy all -
Hate to grovel but a friend just returned home (to N.J.) from a weekend trip to
Atlanta where she caught Galactic for the first time on Saturday, March 21. Now
she is dying for a copy of the show. The six other Galactic shows I have simply
won't do...she needs THAT ONE! If anyone made a nice recording of this show I
would really appreciate it if you'd contact me. I have mucho digital hours
(primarily dead, phish, JGB, ABB, moe., Dylan, MMW, other jazz, etc.) and I will
make it worth your while. Thanks in advance.
