The bass roll-off in the Stealth Cardioids is done acoustically. It's a property of the mic capsule design and there's no way to defeat it. As with most cardioids, you'll get a bass emphasis via the proximity effect, if you record very close to the sound source. And you could always add active EQ during or after recording. From: udo@dinges.xs4all.nl (Udo van den Heuvel) Subject: rmt-d7 and inbox and d7? Date: 29 Mar 98 19:28:21 +0100 Hello All! Is it technically possible (given the right cable) to connect a sony rmt-d7 *and* a zefiro inbox to the 7-pin input of the D7 (at the same time)? I doubt this, but need confirmation. If this /is/ possible: where do I get the right connectors? These 7-pin connectors and sockets (?) are really hard to find over here in europe! Greetz, Udo --

Possibly, but why would you want to? Why not connect the InBox to the input of the RMT-D7 and run the signal through that way? (To do it directly, you'd have to wire some of the pins of the connector to the InBox, others to the RMT; I still don't know if it will work, and it certainly doesn't seem like it would be worth the effort.) From: Eric ANgel <ejangel@ucdavis.edu> Subject: Re: radio shack caps?? Date: Sun, 29 Mar 1998 12:17:44 -0800 I made a pair of mics out of those capsules only because I needed some cheap stealth mics right away and Digi-Key was out of the Panasonics. I recently was able to get some of the Panasonics from Digi-Key and they are *way* better. IMO don't waste your time with the Radio Shacks, they actually cost more than the Panasonics at Digi-Key(but you have to pay for shipping and extra fees for a small order). I suggest buying all your capsules, resistors, capacitors, and plugs(if they carry them, I don't know) all at once from Digi-Key because I think they stuck me with a $5 fee ON TOP of shipping and handling because my order was below $20. If you are using the instructions on the binaural set that is linked to from the DAT-Heads page, I suggest NOT having the mics plug into the battery box with a 1/8" mini and then have the battery box plug into your deck. I tried that with two different mini jacks and both of them "hissed", "cracked", and "popped" a lot. So I took a couple of spare XLR connectors and using that instead of the mini to mini connection, now I never have to worry about a mini plug coming out(you still have to worry about it coming out in your deck though). Or you could always hardwire it and put in an on/off switch so the battery doesn't drain when you're not using it(I think I'm going to do that, the XLR connector is too bulky). Eric Angel
From: Reto Wieduwilt <widu@bluewin.ch> Subject: AC Power Adapter for trade for Ni-MH batteries Date: Sun, 29 Mar 1998 22:53:06 +0200 Hi Some time ago I bought a Sony D100 in the US and since I live in Europe, I dont have use for the 4.5V AC Power Adapter. It is made for US standards (120V/60Hz) and can't be used in Europe. On the other hand I have problems getting Ni-MH batteries (1.2V/1300mAh) for my D100. I still only have the 2 that came with the D100. If somebody needs a AC Power Adapter and could send a couple Ni-MH batteries for it, I would be very thankful. Anybody interested? Please e-mail me privately. -widu P.S. Where else can I get/buy Ni-MH batteries in Europe?

I don't want to legitimize the act of selling or buying bootleg/counterfeit CDs, or wholesale copying of other peoples' CD collections. I do know that in Hong Kong, where counterfeiting is fairly rampant, record companies include a lot of artwork and other things to make their CDs more aesthetically pleasing. (From counterfeit CDs of Japanese recordings coming out of Taiwan, I've seen that even the best copying of the original booklets that come with CDs is disappointing at best. There's a Taiwanese company called Son May (SM-- a FAQ is at http://www.anime.net/SM.html) that sells counterfeit CDs of Japanese animated soundtracks; when they're imported into the U.S., they usually sell for $15, compared to $25 for the lowest-price Japanese imports. For some people who want to sample these CDs but don't want to pay $25-$30, these are tempting enough to buy. (And a lot of people don't know these are really counterfeits; at least I didn't, until I'd already bought a few CDs. When I've had a chance to compare them to the originals, the sound quality on the SM CDs was, of course, as good as the original; except in one case where there were digital errors on one disc. I'd wager a few dollars to a few doughnuts that SM is the most popular "record label" for Japanese animated ("anime") soundtracks in the U.S.; Victor/JVC's imports would probably be the second.) I seriously doubt that home recording would become a serious threat to CD sales. First, I don't think that the CDs people record from friends or public libraries are CDs these people were seriously going to buy. If the person who copies the CD ends up liking it, they may end up buying more commercial releases, and the CD copying has actually helped the record industry. Second, commercial CDs (at least in the U.S.) are relatively cheap; if you shop around, you can usually get a new release for about $13. And I don't think people aren't going to copy unpopular CDs that they can't borrow from their friends or the library. :) Besides, the record companies are competitive enough that they'll find ways to get people to buy CDs. >I thought a possible solution is that with the increased capacity of DVD, >why not start recording DVDs in 8 Tracks (1 Center, 2 Front, 2 Back, 1 Sub). >This new technology would required a new DVD player, and hopefully some >costs could be shifted so the record companies can make a few extra bucks... > >Any thoughts on this? Well, Time Warner is on the standards committee for DVD. Already (AFAIK), every time someone buys a DVD disc or player, Time Warner gets a small royalty. :) It's more likely they'll put in some type of copy protection on audio DVD or "Super CD" (Sony's and Philip's competing proposal). It's also all-but-certain that said copy protection scheme will be overcome by pirates and/or audio preservationists. If they also put in some type of regional coding (like DVD video), it's more than likely that the format's initial target audience (who probably also buys a fair number of imports, like myself :) will stay away from it until that aspect of it is abandoned. > >Randy >****************************************************************** >You can IM me @ RandyCanis >Last Update in paranthesis > >Zakk Wylde's Homepagehttp://www.zakkwylde.com >The Dark Horses' Homepage http://www.thedarkhorses.com >Brian Tichy's Homepage http://www.missouri.edu/~c700083/briantichy/ (3/26/98) >Marty Friedman's Homepage http://www.create-inet.com/mic/martyfriedman/ > Peace, <> David URL me at http://www.lightlink.com/drogers/ -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- "You can kill a thousand; you can bring an end to life; you cannot kill an idea." --Former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres on the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin (1922-1995) ================= Do you believe in telekinesis? I'd wager a few dollars to a few doughnuts that SM is the most >popular "record label" for Japanese animated ("anime") soundtracks in the >U.S.; Victor/JVC's imports would probably be the second.) I should add that (to my knowledge) no one in the U.S. has *ever* been prosecuted for selling SM CDs. I think this is because it's a very small market, and the copyright owners, who aren't exactly seeing a sh*tload of sales go by the wayside, aren't interested enough to contacting the feds. Also, most of these CDs don't have licensed U.S. distributors, who might call the feds. (OTOH, at one anime store I saw a SM pressing of a JVC disc; right next to it was the U.S. JVC pressing, which is now being distributed by WEA. And the prices on both discs were *exactly* the same! :( ) SM discs sell for $8 in Taiwan (sometimes more for special gold CDs), where counterfeiting these works are legal. I can get a $25 non-counterfeit Japanese pressing from the UC Irvine bookstore for $25 (where they don't sell SM), so the SM markup for the stores are probably *much* greater. And I don't think they price 'em higher because they want to make it worth their while in the face of the Feds...
