Hello. I own the Tascam portable DA-P1. A quick question:
In the manual it says to press rewind after inserting a brand new tape
so that the machine can wind it to a suitable position. Whenever I do
this the tape stops, but the motor is still whirring away, as if it's
still trying to rewind....only stopping when I actually press the stop
button.
This also happens when I rewind a used tape back to the beginning.
Is this normal? Surely the machine should go into stop mode (no motor
noise) like a normal audio cassette deck?
I'm new to all this...

Last night I taped String Cheese Incident at the Vic here in Chicago.
Great show, and as always, a nice group of tapers huddled around the
board. In order to move myself up in the chain, I took an analog patch
out of an analog D5 into my D8. Were the levels I recieved from the D5
effected by his levels setting? i.e., would I need to adjust my levels
if he raised (or lowered) his. Also, same question if I took an analog
patch out of a D8?
I would also appreciate any setlist info from the show. It was April 4,
Vic in Chicago.

Melkweg in Amsterdam, Holland. My friend went to this show, and has

Subject: Stand-alone CDR VS Computer CDR?

Hey all!
Is there a difference in the output of a stand-alone CDR such as the
Merantz as opposed to a CDR on my computer? The stand-alone would
obviously be made specifically for audio CD burning, but the computer
also handles data CDs. What I am basically asking is if using a CDR on
my computer (digital transfer from DAT to computer) would turn out a
different sounding CD than the stand-alone?
On a side note, I hope the massive taper sections at the Phish shows
this weekend had a good time. I know I did!

was wondering if anyone owns a set and would be willing to
spin a tape of samples of recordings they've done...also interested
in general comments, where you've used them, what type of
music you use them for, etc...i'm particularly interested in these as
well as some other mics, but it seems like i can't find many people
who own a set...
yes i've read len's page and user comments (and like any businessman)
i'm sure len would be a little hesitant to put negative comments on
the page, pass out bad samples, or give out contacts who don't have
nice things to say about his product...i'm not just interested in how good
they sound, but i'd like to hear the flaws as well...
also curious as to why his set is $900 (which is cheaper than the
DPA mics made from the same capsules, and WAY cheaper than
the sonic studios DSM-9 series made from the same capsules)...
len? any insight?
