We make our own 7-pin plugs. Ours don't have the shell around the plug
pins so if you don't pay attention, you can bend them (no problem --
they bend right back). The right angle versions of our cables reduces
this problem quite a bit and are pretty rugged. There are hundreds of
them out there in the field giving good service at low cost.

groups: Rush, Yes, Dream Theater(FII tour mostly), Fates Warning(APSOG
tour mostly), Led Zeppelin, Floyd, ELP, or Jethro Tull, or any good
blues(Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, etc.) Thanks!

I am looking for an online warehouse where I can order the Audimedia III

Where can I get the digital cable(s) to connect my D100 to the Audiomedia

I am about to replace my Sony DTC-690. I am currently trying to decide
on either the Tascam DA-20 or the Sony PCM R-300. Anyone have any views
as to which I should go for?
SCMS is not an issue because I have a stripper, and making recordings
with 11 does not bother me.
DDS 90M compatibility is not important as I try to only use audio grade
tapes.
I would like to retain 32K/LP as I record 3hrs+ from the radio once in a
while.

the Sennheiser MKE2 omnidirectional lavalier microphone.
>I had one of these, yes it is a very fine mic. A bit tough to stealth with
>though, and it doesn't work so well if you are far away
>(meaning it sounds as if you are really far away).
I guess *distant sound* can be attributed to any mic improperly placed...
or placed beyond / outside the critical distance.
As the distance to the sound source increases, the level
of the direct sound decreases...... but the level of reverberant sound
tends to remain a constant...yielding a somewhat muddy sound.
And yes.....the MKE2 is an omnidirectional (offering little rejection
to unwanted sounds), so maybe a cardioid should be used in certain
circumstances. Keep in mind that cardioids exhibit some of the
off-axis polar response irregularites common with directional mics.
> The MKE-2 goes on the K-6 body, there is no other way to do it.
There are several other ways "to do it." Almost too many to list.
But here goes......
pigtail tinned leads, XLR3 integral PH adapter, 1/8" mini, 1/8" stereo mini,
LEMO, mini XLR5, co-axial plug..........
The K3/K6 is a power supply.
This probably equals the coresounds battery box.
It powers the mic head and amplifies the signal ....and terminates at an XLR.
About 6 inches long....like a big cigar. But the K6 is not the only
source of power available. 48V can be supplied to the MKE2 head.
But this configuration is terminated in an XLR directly from the mic head
(no power supply......the deck must supply the 48V...and the PH adapter
converts this power to a usable voltage.)
The MKE2 head can be powered by the "plug-in power" microphone inputs
on consumer audio recorders like the Sony D6 or the d7/8 dats.
So.....you could go directly from the tiny MKE2 mic head to a 1/8" mini
jack. (Or two MKE2's to a 1/8" stereo mini jack.) It just depends on the wiring....
and the amount of voltage supplied at the input of the recorder.
I think that the MKE2 requires 1.5V to operate..but don't hold me to that!
......BUT then you are relying on the rather *low* quality of the sony
consumer mic pre amp and voltage regulator. The end result would be
the distortion that is widely discussed on these digests. The mics would not
distort.......the mic preamp distorts. I believe the omnidirectional nature of
the MKE2 can withstand an incredibly high SPL before distortion.
Care must be taken when operating this MKE2 without the K3/K6.
Without the Senn power supply, there is no dB attenuation present.
I believe the K3 pads by 17dB before the output...not sure of the K6.
This is where *hot signal* posts come from....operating without attenuation.
Please remember....stealthing was not mentioned in the original post. I was
offering my experiences to questions regarding the quality of the MKE2...not to
stealthing with the MKE2. There are plenty of mic alternatives.....
I just decided to share my positive experiences with this particular mic!
N.B. : I have absolutely NO experience stealthing with this or any other mic.
Does this help put an end to this thread?

andrew

This is for all the people who thought digital audio on a computer would be
easy. I've been reading peoples story's about cool edit. Well honestly
the cool edit program is worth poop! If you are sure about dig audio the
only way to go is the apple mac. yeah yeah some of you out there are
probally saying the mav is dead and windows nt is the way to go. Well you
are wrong. The new G3 that claims it goes faster than a PII, it does and
it screams. The only digital audio cards for the pc are hobbist leval and
they are still worth poop. My advice to all of you out there that are
thinking about working with digital auido yall need to invest in a mac. If
my posting has swyed any of you out there to get a mac. The cheapist and
easist way to go is to invest in a mac power pc 8100 which has a 601 chip
that can also be used for digital video. and an audio media two card that
is nubus that would run about 200 hundred dollars. This is a prfessional
leval card and many a record has been cut on it. And the best software
program is sound designer which is freeware with the card. This is a good
professional set up and it would be alot eaiser than working in the wintel
enviorment. If the 8100 hundred is still out your price range you could
try using a apple doubook with a doudock. Thats an old apple labtop with
its docking station. Now your wondering how to do audio on a labtop well
its realy quite simple. The apple doudock has 2 nubus slots in the back
were you cold easily put a audio media 2 card in and it has a place to put
a scsi hard drive in the docking station. I have a friend that owns his
own studio in atlanta and he still uses the apple dou book setup to this
day its very covient.
take care payne
ps next year apple will have realesed 1000 mghr power pc chip, while intel
will only have a 500 mghr chip. something to think about.
the mac wile never die.........

I have a very nice master of the Radiohead show with Spiritualized opening
from the Rosemont theater in Chicago. I used the Core Sound Cardoids and
Sony D8. I'm open to trades and would like some more radiohead, but am
also looking for Pearl Jam from NZ/OZ 98, any 98 tool or any Kyuss. Please
email me at dgthomas@indiana.edu
Radiohead runs exactly 100 minutes
Spiritualized runs 42 minutes
I was in the 13th row in front of the right stacks the sound is
remarkable. One of my best non-club shows I've ever taped. The sound
system was awesome and there are only one or two very brief spots of crowd
noise at the beginning and that's it! Very repectful crowd.

actually, this topic also interests me quite a bit, too. i have
seen the new pinnacle firewirecards in action...they are able to
control a DV (digital video) deck or camera (bear with me there IS
dat content here) via LANC...so you can hook your DV camera or deck
to a computer, pick out the starting points and ending points of
video clips you want to download to the computer hard drive and then
do a batch capture via the associated software..in fact, now some
manufacturers are even introducing "DV-drives" which mount into the
5.25 in. bay and plug into the firewire card, thus you don't even
need to hook up the camera/ deck to download ...you just pop in your
DV tape and pick out your clips (ahh, finally for the DAT
content)...i was thinking the other day..wouldn't it be
wonderful if there was software which could run existing
DDS drives which would allow you to read audio DAT
tapes and then mark the locations (via timecode) for clips,
songs, whatever you wanted to download to your harddrive (and
convert to wave files) which could then be edited (say by using
soundforge, cooledit, etc.) and written back to your DDS drive
in audio DAT format ..thus, your DDS drive could serve a dual
purpose-- both data backup and audio DAT down/upload-- .maybe this
already exists and i don't know where to find it or maybe this is
physically impossible due to computer dat vs audio dat drive specs
(eg head size, location). ..i'm not really sure...please inculcate me
if you know...
.if this is not the case, maybe someone would be interested in
developing something like this with me....it could possibly be a
plugin or patch to run with existing tape backup software

your dat recording already indexed, you can set the cdr to auto record and
it will automatically copy all information including track ids. it will
also stop at the right time. its great because you can start it and just

I have to second this recommendation in that I've used lots of Fuji
DDS tapes in the past without any problems. My only minor complaint
is that they used to come in those weird oversized cases that made
them stick out in my cheap Napa Valley DAT rack (one of those $19.95
cassette racks converted to DAT use by flipping it sideways).
