I am looking for the best price on this spiffy software. OR, if any of you can dissuade me with something better/cheaper that I really ought to buy. Thanks! It's missing the first 12m and is pretty bassy due to a combination of the venue being a goddamned cave, my crappy seats and my having no roll-off filter, but it's available for trade if anyone's interested. From: Cdcreator <Cdcreator@aol.com> Subject: Re:digital audio on the computer Date: Wed, 15 Apr 1998 12:42:24 EDT Boy did you pick the wrong mailing list to start a Mac/PC Battle ;-). Obviously, you have had your head up your ass for the past two years, or you have forgotten to read ANY recording magazine, since it is obvious that the PC IS A SERIOUS PLATFORM FOR DOING DIGITAL AUDIO, and a TON of people on this list alone will tell you so. I happen to use BOTH PC and MAC everyday for digital audio, and have a lot more insight in the area than most. On the Mac side, I use a PowerMac 7600/132 at school with a ProTools 442 interface, and my PC is a P200 MMX with a AdB Digital Multiwav Pro24 card running Sound Forge (that I legally own BTW) for my editing. I agree that Cool Edit is worth poop, and that’s why I use Sound Forge 4.0. It is so obvious that you have no idea about the quality or quantity of professional (not hobbyist) digital audio cards available for the PC. Just some of these cards and interfaces include TripleDAT, SoundScape, Digital Audio Labs V8, and a TON of other cards offering 24bit I/O for less than $500. My $400 AdB card offers a hell of a lot more performance that the ProTools system that I use, and cost a tenth as much. I don’t think that the Mac is dead, only that the users are confused, loyal people who have been brainwashed into the Apple Cult and who only listen to what Apple and Mac Magazines have to say. You should open your eyes as it is obvious that you have no clue or experience running good PC hardware and software for audio. Sound Forge is better than ANY 2 track editor that I have used on a Mac (besides a $50K Sonic Solutions system), and I’ve used them all. About the whole speed issue (Pentium vs. PowerPC/G3), I won’t even go there with you. Apple has claimed that the PowerPC/G3 chips were better than the Intel processors for years, but I never saw that myself, nor have I heard ANY Pentium users complain about speed. Now that I have that off my chest, I will stop taking up bandwidth, and continue to Record and Master excellent audio on my PC and Mac. Thanks for the venting, Dylan

From: Steve Waud <waudsj@polaris.clarkson.edu> Subject: R300 SCMS question Date: Wed, 15 Apr 1998 16:23:35 -0400 how exactly does the sony R300 deal with SCMS? everything i read says "user-selectable ID6(scms)" but the market-posting says 'acts like a consumer deck, except copies 10 to 10'.. so if i copy a master(00) to the R300, i'll get... 11? or 00.. and this means that i can copy any tape, right? even protected tapes(10) will copy, 'cept the bits will still be set to protected.. that's my understanding, if anyone could clarify this for me i'd be greatly appreciative.. also, is it a real negative to have tapes with 10, or won't most people care? thanks! -- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Steve Waud 'Show a Little Sunshine Every Day' waudsj@polaris.clarkson.edu 'please, me, have no regrets' homepage: http://people.clarkson.edu/~waudsj/ >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ME NO ARE NO NICE GUYS<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Between the ccm-4's and the cmc-6/mk.4 (with or without active cables), the sonic quality difference are minimal. Having used each of these combinations, in addition to the very flexible VMS system with a variety of capsules, I have found that all perform to the same high standards one would expect from SCHOEPS microphones and equipment. The major issue I would draw to attention is that the ccm-series does not have interchangeable capsules whereas the cmc-6/mk.* system and the VMS system does. This means that if you have any interest in having a variety of capsules (cardioid, hyper, omni, figure of eight) than you may not want the ccm's as they would require the purchase of an entirely new microphone as opposed to only having the expense of the capsules. Although the "stealthability" of the ccm's is quite nice, the same can be achieved with the KC active cables with the cmc/mk.* arrangement and with the VMS system. Details about these and all SCHOEPS products, as well as several great additions, are available on the Sonic Sense website at http://www.henge.com/~sncsns We look forward to helping you with all of your recording needs.
