Hey all...
I've noticed a rash of DMB discussion in the last week's posts and am
wondering...
I have a couple shows and the live CD that they put out... it all seems
(from my meager sample of three shows) a bit homogenous. (hope you
appreciate that we're corresponding on a list that can use words like
homogenous...)
Am I wrong?? Don't get me wrong, I love what I've heard. But I've heard
from a couple people that they think that DMB is 'getting stale'.
If there's a DMB-head out there, set me straight and suggest some show
that are must-haves...
Gracias,
Jackson

Does anybody know if the current tour has a taper section or am I going to
have to stealth it? I'd like very much to trade with anyone who has already
taped from this tour.

RE: A/V certified drives thread/Vcache:
When dealing with digital audio, disc cacheing should be turned off if
at all possible. This really makes a difference when the computer has
limited resources (40-66Mhz). Newer drives have some cacheing built into
the hardware which also makes a big difference, and takes that load off
the main CPU. Certainly a slower processor can handle the cacheing task,
but it is a wasted effort as the data read is never redundant.
It may not be practical to have cacheing totally off if you have lots of
CPU power (100-300Mhz) and you have non-audio applications running
simultaneously under Windows95. Recommended settings for Windows95 have
been posted here in the past. I don't have the information handy, but
anyone could get it using a search of the digests.

HI Mike and All,
I highly recommend the B&K 0896 windscreens designed for the B&K 4011's.
I have been using them for the last few years and find they are the best
sounding (ie. minimal high end loss) while offering excellent wind
protection (and we all like safe taping). As for size, they are a happy
medium between the insufficient windscreens like those provided by AKG
with many of their mics and the oversized Shure or Neumann screens which
may offer a bit more protection but compromise high frequencies.
As a B&K dealer, our pricing on these screens is $42.00 per pair and we
have a lot on the way in addition to our inventory of 4011's, 4021's,
4022's, and 4060's microphones for sale and rental. All accessories also
available.
The other option, for SCHOEPS users, is the hollow B 5 D. They are quite
small but are specially designed to provided an air pocket between the
front of the windscreen and the capsule of the microphone. $122.00/pair

I was taping Radiohead the other night and at the end of the show I was

though I knew I had enough juice left. Indeed, after the show, the battery
meter still showed 2 clicks left. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it
indicative of some sort of problem?

<<Could someone please help me access this feature. I didn't even know it
existed until a recent post. I tried doing the same commands that
supposedly work for getting into the test mode for a D-100, ie...press
stop, counter, and open simultaneously...then use the mode setter button
find test mode #2 and press enter. I tried doing this, but after pressing
the buttons I got a readout that said 1 40 40 and I was able to change
the first '40' to several different numbers by hitting the 'mode'
button (99, 01, 01, 21, 22, 32, etc..)...then when I hit 'enter' the
second 40 would change to that
number. At that point I got a little nervous about screwing around with
that so I shut off the power which is supposed to exit the test mode>>
By entering the test mode, you can be assured you may indeed open Pandora's
Box. There are many software and deck parameters that can be altered by
getting into places one has insuffecient knowledge to navagate. Some
parameters are critical to the normal operation of the deck, and yes, one can
screw things up pretty good by simply pressing buttons until something
happens.
I suggest you leave well enough alone. Or if you must fiddle with it and
*accept the consequences*, buy the service manual and get the proper
information.

"hello, someone was wondering why dats are so much more then cdrs. its
simply because dats are much more widely used in recording studios and
making demos. the prices should be the same for a wile."
I don't think that is a good reason. Dats are more expensive to make
(materials involved, manufacturing processes, research, etc). Look at the
(many many more)parts/complexity of a dat tape compared to a CDR. In
addition, CDRs are in higher production (they're cranking em out like
theres no tomorrow)than dats which also drives CDR prices down.........Pete

Hey now-
Greetings from the Pacific Northwest. Seattle band Kilgore
Trout is playing some gigs on the east coast in June & I am
trying to locate some tapers out there who plan to record. I
have lots to offer in return. Trouts music has (IMHO) traces
of 70's King Crimson, Primus, & Mahavishnu.. Their website
http://kilgoretrout.com has some audio files if you want to
check em out.
Dates are:
Friday, June 5th Syracuse Jazz Festival, Syracuse, NY- Main
Stage Performance, 7:30 pm - Clinton Square
Saturday, June 6th Pluto's- Pittsburgh, PA- More info TBA
Tuesday, June 9th The Izzy Bar, 166 1st Ave. New York, NY
-8:30pm-10:30pm, opening slot for (tba)
Thursday, June 11th, The Knitting Factory- New York, NY-
Kilgore performs at 1:00am (get plenty of
rest!)
Friday, June 12th- The Bullfrog Brewery, Williamsport, PA-
Currently tentative - Check back for more info
They are taper friendly, will give board patches if its cool
with the sound guy, & will let you set up mic's, etc. Talk
to Dan Moore/drummer, or Steve Linder/Bass player. My list
is at http://www.speakeasy.org/~kashmir/
OK, hope to hear from some of y'all back east.
Peace out, Jon

WHAT THE PRESS ARE SAYING ABOUT ZONY MASH:
.....a smarter, more harmonically involved band that never stays locked
in a single groove. Its Meters meets Miles approach, though certainly
tailored for the crossover, jam band set, was of the type that would be
equally attractive to more discriminating listeners.
Bill Kohlhaase, L.A Times
You've got to be ultra tight to convince listeners of your funkateer
prowess, and for the most part, the fingers of Zony Mash form a fist. On
the nimble intro to "Smiles" they have the accuracy of a string
quartet.... Here's to their inspired if unholy alliances. May they
continue to offer such seductive blends
Jim Macnie Down Beat
Original tunes incorporate delightfully strange twists of harmony or
