Just wanted to let folks know that we've introduced two new sets of low
cost mics. One is a version of our Binaurals and the other a version of
our Stealth Cardioids. They both offer fine sound for their price.
Please see our Web page for details.

Once a tape is made, normalizing cannot increase the dynamic range
(basically, nothing can). The problem with normalizing is that if
it's done foolishly (that is, the easy way: multiply every sample by
whatever number scales the largest sample to 0dB), it increases the
quantizing noise. Better algorithms exist, but they're slower.

Did anyone tape HORDE at Fidlers Green in Denver last July? I would have
taped, but it was an unexpected show for me. I am particulraily looking
for the Neil Young set. I have a lot of Phish/Dead to offer, as well as
tons of assorted East Coast bands...
Any replies greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
Follow the link below for tour dates and other interesting info about
this great band. They've finally got it together enough to do some shows
outside of MS/West TN/AL/LA. I highly reccomend them. They are very
taper friendly, allow soundboard patches and will put you on the guest
list if they know you're taping. All they ask for is a cassette of the
show afterwards.
Spread the kudzu and check out this band if you get the chance. If you
have any questions, you can e-mail them from their web page or you can
e-mail me mailto:frankg@watervalley.net
I have a #of their tapes (DAT only!) for those interested. I ran a tree
of their 2/7/98 show a coupla months back.
Anyway, here's the link to their tour page:

Greetings fellow DAT heads.
I just purchased a set of DPA 4061 and am in the process of building a =
battery box for them.
I`m worried about doing something wrong so I was hoping someone with =
expertise in electronics could help me out. I need to calculate the =
right resistor value for a 9VDC source (flat 9 Volt battery).
DPA 4061 specs:
power consumption:=20
0,3 - 0,8mA=20
5 - 9V
I was thinking I`d use max Ampere and max Voltage in my calculations.
9 VDC / 0,0008 A =3D 11250 Ohm
Is this by any chance correct or should I use a different resistor =
value?
Here is is how I picture it:
( wire to negative battery terminal)
o
|
|=20
GND o-----o-------------------o GND From DAT line in
OUT IN
0,022uF (2,2E-07) =20
Left o-----o-----||------------o Left From DAT line in
OUT | IN
|
11kOhm
|
|
o-------------------o =20
| +9Volt battery terminal =20
| =20
11kOhm =20
| =20
| 0,022uF (2,2E-07)
Right o-----o-----||------------o Right From DAT line in
OUT IN
I`d really appreciate any help on this, since these mics are to =
expensive to mess up.
Sorry for taking up bandwidth.

Somebody posted a few days ago about John Wesley Harding and Steve Wynn. I
caught their show at the Mercury Lounge last Friday and strongly encourage
people on the list to check them out -- and don't forget to bring your
equipment. They are taper friendly -- I used set up a pair of Nak 300s by
the board without a hassle (Wynn also allows board patches, but given the
modestly sized venues they're playing at, mics could be the better way to
go).
Another taper friend artist who's on tour now is Kristin Hersh, formerly of
Throwing Muses. I was allowed to patch in at the show I went to last year,
and apparently board access is being allowed on this tour as well, though
you should clear it with Kristin or her husband/roadie/tour manager first.

Jack R. Lebowitz stated on Tue, 21 Apr 1998:
Just got my second, portable DAT deck (a Sony PCM-M1) and have been
thinking about how to get it safely to shows.
So...does anyone have any specific recommendations they'd care to make,
particularly people who have adapted such a camera or day pack case to
their use in carrying a small DAT recorder of the D-7/8/100/M-1 variety
together with a pouch or compartment for other taping neccessities (patch
cables, flashlight, tapes, batteries, etc.)
- I highly recommend the Case Logic ZIP Drive soft case that is available
at most computer stores (Best Buy, Computer City, etc.) for about $20. It
has plenty of compartments for all your accessories. It is versatile and
comes with a shoulder strap (or you can run your belt through the belt
loops to make it a fanny pack of sorts.) I use it for my D100, patch
cables, AT831b cardiod lav mics, batteries, charger, blanks, cleaning tape,
remote control, headphones, etc. (It will hold all of the above AND my
homemade D Cell battery pack for the D100.)
Since you are not concerned with stealthing, I believe that this case is
your answer.
Good Luck!

I picked up a Sony RK-DA10mod dig cable from Sonic Sense and have the same
problem "out" of the cable. I can patch into other people, but others can
not patch into me. I talked to Marc Nutter from Sonic sense and he said
they've had some problems with the earlier versions of the "out" of this
cable, due to Sony's design, so I'm returning it for another cable. Marc
can explain the problem better than I can, though.
