Hi there,
just returned back home to Germany from my Black Crowes East Coast tour
a few days ago. Unfortunately my D3 didn't make it all the way through.
I left it with a friend in New Jersey since it needs to be turned in for
a repair and they don't offer such "flat rates" for DAT decks here in
Germany.
Anyway, what I want to know is if anyone has any suggestions where to
send the unit. I know that not all of their customer centers still
accept the D3 under their flate rate and not all of them are equally
reliable and offer the same quality in repairs.
Any pros and contras??
Thanks,
Karsten

Or you could just raise the level so that the music peaks around -3, and
then limit the firecrackers... But the firecrackers are the *BEST* part!

Subject: Philips 880/560 and computer CD-R media; 44.1k resampling?
Date: Tue, 26 Jan 1999 11:50:43 +0100 (MET)
Dear folks,
probably this is a FAQ, however I didn't find what I wanted to know in the
archive. My questions:
*Is there a way to make the Philips audio CD-recorders 880 and 560 write
on cheap computer CD-R media (like the 870 did)? If yes, how?
*Does the 560 do resampling on 44.1k SPDIF stuff (the 880 is expected not
to do so)?
Thank you for any answer (if possible, also forwarded to my mail address)
in advance!
Regards,
Chris

Well, I just sent my Sony R-300 out to the shop to get
fixed. The deck was stopping in the middle of recording and
playback! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone might know what
is causing that??? Also, I have a question about the Sony
R-500... When using 90mtr tapes, It seems that the deck is
ALOT slower than the R-300 when fast forwarding (unpacking)
a new tape. When it rewinds though, it is somewhat quicker.
Does anyone have any expirences like this??? Get back to me
with opinions, John

Hi all,
a friend of mine from Sacramanto is desperatley trying to find someone
recording a show for him. He is no taper himself.
The infos:The Gigolo Aunts hold a cd release party at the viper room in
Hollywood february 6th.The group is on Adam Duritz's (Counting Crows
singer)record label and Adam also sings harmony on some songs and he is
rumored to be there for this show!
My friend is willing to pay for the ticket.Tickets are only sold at the
door. The show time is 9pm but to get in you MUST be there earlier
because the occupancy is very limited, and no they do NOT allow taping
so you'd have to do it stealth.
Any help would me much appreciated.

Mr Moose brings up a great point
"I believe that complaining to ebay about bootleg sales is acceptable if
one feels the moral need to do so, but please be sure it's a bootleg
before you do."
This is a great way to get at people you don't like. Simple report them as a
bootlegger, it doesnt matter if its true or not, just the legal hassle of
trying to defend yourself will be like being accused of a sex crime, guilty
until proven innocent.
>From a legal standpoint, what is the difference between selling a bootleg CD
for profit and selling a non-bootleg used CD for a profit. In both cases,
you don't own the copyrighted works contained within, you don't have a
license to sell it and you are essentially making money off of someone elses
copyrighted work. I know this was the argument that several record companies
tried to use unsuccessfully to prevent the sale of used CDs.
Just curious.

What a great forum this is! I just got back from a road trip with the
band and want to thank everybody who responded to my plight with
help/suggestions/info. My new replacement cable arrived yesterday from
Full Compass. Unfortunately I didn't order in time to get it before the
roadtrip so I missed out recording on a couple shows.
For anyone interested it took roughly 8-10 business days and $19.00
(including shipping) for the short XLR to 1/8" miniplug adapter to get
here.
One question for the wiring experts: Why is it that the supplied XLR to
dual 1/8" miniplug (one for each channel) can't be used with one of those
1/8" male to dual 1/8" female headphone adapters? I've tried two
different headphone adapters with the same result (only the left channel
of my Sony TCD-100 gets any input from the mic). No matter which of the
AT cables I use, it is the same result, even if you use only one
cable/either headphone adapter . My guess is that the AT dual channel
cables are wired differently since I'm reversing the direction that the
headphone adapter was intended for! ;D

"As an anecdote, I've found that when rewinding and then pressing play on my M1,
I
get diginoise for a fraction of a second..."
In starting from a stopped mode, you're dealing with the "static coefficient of
friction" to start the tape spinning(and other related mechanics). Altenatively
to keep a tape in motion that is already in motion(and other related mechanics),
you're dealing with the "dynamic coefficient of friction". The static
coefficient is almost always higher than the dynamic. This might explain the
fraction of a second diginoise that David observes with 90meter tapes
here.....Pete

I am looking for a tape of the Grateful Dead show from
10/24/70 as it was on my Birthday. The other weird thing is that I was born
in Carbondale, Illinois which is only an hour from St. Louis.... Does
anyone have this on DAT? I would even go for analog on this. I have some
sweet digital boards from the late 80's early 90's with Dark Stars on them.
By the way if you have not gotten it yet...all tapers should pick up The
Deadheads Taping Compendium Volume One....even if you do not like the Dead
it provides some very interesting perspective on the birth of concert
taping and what equipment was used and how they got it in and so

It's a coaxial cable, just like the usual interconnect cables
with RCA plugs at each end (or XLR) but the cable is a 75 ohm
cable, vs the ordinary 50 ohm cables like on ordinary
interconnects.
