Dose anyone here know anything about X-overs?
I need to run a 8Ohm driver from an Amp the requires an 8 Ohm load, BUT
I only wan't frequancys below 800Hz
reaching the driver, any one know where I could find a suitable
crossover (eather active or passive), or plans to build one?
Also dose anyone know if it's possible to run a three way X-over with
only on driver on it? (eg with a "dummy" 8 Ohm load in place of
the remaning two drivers?)

These guys don't allow taping anymore, in fact they aren't even playing
Grateful Dead tunes anymore. I found this out the hard way tonight by going
to Catalina's in Hollywood, Ca w/ hopes of running mics..A band manager
apologized and told me they are only playing tunes written by band members
that are not copyrighted, and that would be the deal all week (8 shows) and
no taping would be allowed. He also told me no other shows are scheduled and
these may be the last shows for these guys as a group. He told me their
future is completely up in the air after these shows which aren't even
billed as Jazz is Dead but some all-star band w/ a singer.

Sort of; in the US, there's something known as the "First Sale
Doctrine" which means that when the copyright holder has sold an item
to the public (e.g. I buy a book or a CD), he no longer controls
distribution of that particular item. Hence, resale of books and CDs
is legal without permission of the copyright holder.
Now, a bootleg CD was never sold by the copyright holder, so the
copyright holder still owns the distribution rights. (In addition, it
was probably made in violation of copyright, giving the copyright
holder even more power.)

Well,
If anybody manages to take any of the Hollywood shows anyway, I'd sure
love a copy. Lots of stuff to trade. Please let me know! If there was
a chance in hell of making it to one of these shows, I'd be there.

My experiences have been quite different. I've had my M1 for a year now
and in that span I've never hesitated to use 90m tapes. I make a ton of
analog tapes for people and probably use my deck 6+ hours a day for weeks
on end. It's a little workhorse and I've had no problems. Heck, that's
what the 5 year warranty is for right?

it may not be a windows problem, but if it is this will help.

Hello Dat-Heads!
After reading about this board I figured I would give it a shot...
I picked one up down the street for $120 (not a great price..but
it was down the street, now)
Anyway, only took about 20min to swap out the motherboards
and get back up and running.
I chose to start with a fresh installation of win95.
This took about 2 hours ;)
I did have to find a way to go from the jumpers to
a coax without totally adding noise...what I used
was a CD analog out from an external CD enclosure,
which was supplying RCA audio out of the yamaha
SCSI cdr burner, from jumpers to two RCA coax connecters
with a short 6 inch cable. Not perfect..but adequate for
this test.
The software and docs which came with the motherboard
regarding the Digi I/O are WEAK at best. Not really any
clear description of how to set it up. You can read these
in the main motherboard manual at the asus site.
All is says is that it is there and you can choose TTL levels
if you want. It shows a picture of the 3 Jumpers for TTL Yes/NO,
Spdif In and Spdif out. That is the ONLY mention of digital I/O
anywhere online or in print.
After several hours of trial and error, ( and rebooting and reinstalling
drivers)
I did get the OUTPUT to play 44.1khz wav material which sounded fine.
When I played 48Khz Wav files...My dat didn't sense the new sample rate,
either because the card was resampling back to 44.1(SB LIVE?) or
because it was playing it at the wrong speed(didn't sound like it)
I never ( believe me I tried EVERY possible combination of every variable)
got the input to work at ALL.
After blowing most of my perfect Ski weekend here in Oregon,
I had seen enough. When the 48khz signal didn't come out at
48khz it was over for me anyway.
I believe with enough emails to asustek technical support,
and some luck. This card could work for 44.1khz material.
My best guess is that this is a SB live onboard?
SB16 plus a bunch of Midi stuff and a Digi I/O
and a 3D chip? sound familiar?
I hope to get to use a DATPORT soon
and will send in results as they occur.
Peace,
Mark Carr

<< Is there a battery pack that any of you have built?>>
I now have in stock a new accessory from Sony. It is a small beltpack with
clip that allows either rechargeable Sony camcorder batteries or (6) AA
batteries to power the new portable DAT decks in a convenient "quick-change"
way. The units are here for only $129.
See the instruction sheet and specifications at

This pack sounds like a very good item if it comes with at least the charger
AND a camcorder (6Volt ?) battery within the package. I can't tell you for
sure if the 6 AA batteries (9 volts with fresh alkaline batteries or 7.2 volts
with NiMH or NiCad) is a good idea for the D100 or M1 DAT models as this is
another 3 volts over the usually 6 volts I know is OK.
The deck ususally runs on nominal 4.5 DC volt AC adapter, so doubling this
voltage seems risky with not trying it for a while. If the camcorder battery
is something as high as 7.2 volts, this seems less stressful, but a 6 volts
external supply is the only really known safe voltage I'd be confident to try
with my limited knowledge of deck voltage supply stress testing.
So what's the complete story with this seemingly nifty accessory Klay?
Best Regards in Sound & Music Recording,
Leonard Lombardo
