I'll also bet they won't supply them separately so that they can continue to charge 50-70 UK pounds in the stores for the full cable assemblies....... besides which, it's a fiber-optic assembly, and how many home constructors have capability to assemble those? From: rob <limslip@iinet.net.au> Subject: Re: Illegal bootlegs on Ebay: What we can do Date: Wed, 27 Jan 1999 22:40:20 +0800 i read a lot of stuff on here recently about everyone on the high moral ground about bootlegs for sale on ebay etc etc . if you dont like it you sure dont have to buy em . i do completely understand the grievances band people might have with the makers of these but also having been a collector myself and having approached a number of people in this and other newsgroups to trade with and getting standard thanks anyway replys (which again is understandable if i havent got anything you want ) i would rather pay money for something than not have it at all . whinging about people making or selling boots doesnt seem very constructive to me when if you wanted to you could set up sites where boots can be downloaded for free like the phish site whose name escapes me . i think the real thing is that everyone is out for something for themselves and they get irked if someone gives too many people the chance to own the exclusive bit of sound you already have . if youve already got it quit whinging and if you dont there is likely to be one person who has bought the boot prepared to trade it around jst as much . rob Limited Slip Discs Shop 6/7 , 193 William St , Northbridge 6003 PO Box 325 , Northbridge 6865 ph - 61-8-9328 4665 fax - 61-8-9328 2297

So this Tascam has COAX i/o, AES/EBU i/o , XLR i/o's, will accept all types of blanks- including the RW type- and it sells for about the same price as the Marantz. Does anyone know of any reviews on the Tascam unit? Anyone own one? Bueller? Anyone? Ive got the hots for it (total guy thing). Help!! (and those who want to argue in favor of the computer type of recorder; this standalone will augment my computer setup). Thanks D
From: TallBoy67@aol.com Subject: Taping Dave & Tim acoustic Date: Wed, 27 Jan 1999 09:51:55 EST Hi all. It's the inevitable problem encountered when taping Dave Matthews' acoustic shows: getting a good level without worrying that even the slightest audience noise/applause is going to shoot the meter past zero. How in heavens is this possible? I've had absolutely dreadful experiences on two occasions trying to tape these shows.. the second time I was even using a pre-amp and a mic stand but it still came out terrible. Any suggestions? The only mics at my disposal are CSB's and a Sony ECM909A. Thanks for any assistance. J.Cohen
From: d & d <ddnull@ocsonline.com> Subject: re:illegal bootlegs on e-bay Date: Wed, 27 Jan 1999 10:13:07 -0500 hello cdr-heads, i'm having a hard time figuring out why so many folks want to appoint themselves the bootleg police. do you think the labels and artists need your help? if the bootleg market was truly costing the record industry money, don't you think that they would do something about it themselves? they have all the means, all the power, all the money, & all the political influence necessary to shut e-bay down, if they had the desire to. bootlegs are wrong but only if the band dislikes them. some bands want to be bootlegged. this is a well known fact. some record execs want their bands bootlegged, this is a well known fact. i feel like some folks get off on the power trip of being a cop ( just like the cops do) & getting rid of something they disagree with.. what ever happened to minding your own business? this list is becoming so full of hypocrites, it's making me ill. on one hand everyone wants to jail the bootleggers, on the other hand a large number of folks openly talk of going to a show and ripping off the artist by taping them against their wishes. what gives? we allows manufacturers to get on here and promote the tools they make to rip the artist off. hell, sony owns a large pecentage of the music industry and yet they also make the most stealth dat of them all. do they really want to do something about the bootleg industry? we, ourselves, profit from the barter of these tapes. all i am asking is where does all of this hypocrisy come from? respectfully, dale shepherd n.p. dead- 06-18-74

But we can't figure out how to make a 7 pin>sp/dif....are the "jump" patterns on the pins different that the others? It seems that way, but I'm not sure. If anyone has made one, or knows the contenance and jump pattern of the pins, please e-mail me. From: Dears1314@aol.com Subject: Houw much..AT822 Date: Wed, 27 Jan 1999 12:29:47 EST hey all, I have an extra AT822, which I picked up a year ago. I was curious, if I were to sell it, what would I ask for it? It has been used like three times, and has no scratches, etc. I have no need for the mic, as I have a much better rig now, but I won't sell it if it isn't worth it. Any help is appreciated. Also, if anyone wants to buy it, let me know that too. It has windscreens, clamps, cables, manual, etc... Daryan
From: Yalk@aol.com Subject: More On Nifty DC Pack Date: Wed, 27 Jan 1999 13:37:43 EST Leonard asked some good questions; I'll try to clarify. Also please read the pdf I have posted of the device's instruction manual at ftp://ftp.klay.com//pdf/Sony_NPAD100K.pdf as this may answer a lot of questions. <<This pack sounds like a very good item if it comes with at least the charger AND a camcorder (6Volt ?) battery within the package.>> No it does not. It comes with a belt-clip sled to hold an optional popular camcorder battery or the supplied battery-shaped container that holds (6) AA cells inside. <<I can't tell you for sure if the 6 AA batteries (9 volts with fresh alkaline batteries or 7.2 volts with NiMH or NiCad) is a good idea for the D100 or M1 DAT models as this is another 3 volts over the usually 6 volts I know is OK.>> Well, I can't say either as the unit only outputs the correct 4.5vdc from the DC source. Here is an important point: there is onboard DC regulation to 4.5vdc, probably one reason for the cost. <<The deck ususally runs on nominal 4.5 DC volt AC adapter, so doubling this voltage seems risky with not trying it for a while. If the camcorder battery is something as high as 7.2 volts, this seems less stressful, but a 6 volts external supply is the only really known safe voltage I'd be confident to try with my limited knowledge of deck voltage supply stress testing. >> There is no overvoltage problem; it is regulated. This is, BTW, a Sony- specified accessory for the D100/M1. Hope this helps. Regards, Klay Anderson klay@klay.com http://www.klay.com 1.800.FOR.KLAY
