@ Emo's...Austin, Texas
*****OUTSIDE STAGE*****
Trailer Hitch (opener)

I'm interested in getting the UNIDA, Quenns Of The Stone Age and Fu Manchu

Rock". Talk about a killer line up if you get into this kind of stuff.
Please drop me an e-mail if you plan on attending. I'm very interested in
getting this stuff. Thanks for the space.

I'm in the market for a digital I/O card (ISA or PCI) which can
do the following:
1. 44.1kHz & 48kHz input and output without sample rate
conversion (I'd rather let some PC s/w do this when needed)
2. Support for NT4.0.
I/O connectors can be RCA or Optical.
I'm on a tight budget and need something just to get by for now.
Please let me know your suggestions.
Thanks.

Give me a break! Don't be paranoid. I am in no way employed by
Soundprofessionals. I only believe the AT853's are much better than the
cheap binaural csb/Sonics etc. that abound. Many people would love to own
Schoeps but can't afford it, and the 853's come pretty close in my view, and
they're definitely many times better than the cheap $2 panasonic caps. I
admit my motivation in posting on the 853's was selfish - but only in the
sense that I'd rather trade for tapes made with 853's than csb type
binaurals. I'd just like to see tapers abandon the cheap binaurals and
switch to much better mic's that cost the same or less. End of story,
James
BTW, I just got this e-mail:

As almost anyone who has looked at the track list for TOO's new CD can
attest, this album will not come close to the high (or even the mid-)
points of last summer's tour. I don't know where their (the producers')
heads were when this was compiled, but they missed the chance to make a
fantastic record.

>If the RIAA has their way, the only music we would own, is something bought
>at full retail over-priced from Tower/Virgin and nothing else. Stop acting
>like they are our friends. They're not.
A very good point......the RIAA shouldn't be considered the friend of any
part of the taping community, because they intend to destroy it.
If we as a community have a problem with people selling 'legs (or any other
activity for that matter) the community needs to handle this problem,
because even turning in pricks like that will only give the taping community
bad press...........The RIAA is already speaking out against posting lists
online!
Also, as of this moment, recieving blank media or recorded media as a trade
is considered selling(recieving compensation) media and therfore against the
law!
These laws were passed in the "No Electronic Theft Act" in December, which
increased penalties for piracy of software, information, and
recordings........a particularly disturbing stripping of American rights in
order to punish a very small percentage of criminals, bootleggers and
software pirates.
Oh, and the law defines compensation as:
"the receipt, or expectation of receipt, of anything of value, including
the receipt
of other copyrighted works."
The keywords here being "anything of value" This includes B/P or even just
postage!
The RIAA isn't going to be inforcing this upon the average trader anytime
soon, but large scale traders should beware, or some precious gems might be
lost for a long time......
And if you don't get much out of this message, remember this, the more
people they can charge with crimes, the more rights they can take
away...........

Also, if you have two devices on the same controller, both must be
U-DMA for this mode to work (at least, I believe this is true).
I experimented with my hard discs (which are MUCH MUCH faster
than a 4X CD drive) and could find *no* difference in speed between
regular EIDE and U-DMA33. But then again, I don't think my hard
drives can transfer anything near the 16 MB/Sec of regular EIDE.
(And a 4X CD write is only 0.6 MB/sec.

For a Y2K problem a little closer to some DAT-HEADS daily lives, for those of
you using TapeTracker try entering a date past the end of this year. On my
version, (2.2-something) at least, it is a no-go. I emailed Steve Zimmerman
about it months ago, and he said it was no problem to work around, but I never
got an update. Also, the version of microsoft access it is built on is known
to be not Y2K compliant, with the "fix" being to upgrade to a newer version
(the MS Office 95 version), which Steve has said in the past TapeTracker will
eventually support, but the modifications required to support it were not
trivial. I certainly hope he is right that getting tapetracker Y2K compliant
will be easy.
If you own TapeTracker, you might want to email him about it... if it is an
easy fix, there is no reason he can't do it ASAP. if it isn't an easy fix,
this will get him started on it with some time to spare...
