If you use a deck with an AGC, why not hit the switch during the between song
crowd noise and then back when it dies down? Not sure if it will create a
short blank spot or not though.

The big question:
PC or MAC?
I'm buying an all digital SONY home stereo, DAT deck, CD-R setup, ADAT
& mixer, stealth DAT, and need a computer to tie it all together.
Also curious as to digital optical splicers. Do they exist? The
reciever I'm looking at only has 1 digital out. This isn't enough. I
haven't seen them anywhere, but common sense tells me these fat
corporate pigs most likely wouldn't do us this favor.
Thank you,
jesse

DAT-Heads,
I seem to recall a few posts in the past looking for Vic Chesnutt tapes. I
just taped Vic last night at the Balboa Cafe in Tempe, Arizona. CSBmod/M1
from the front row. Vic was in terrific spirits taking all sorts of
requests, 100 minutes long.
For those that don't know Vic, he was in an automobile accident and is in a
wheelchair. In spite of his challenges, he is a humorous and insightful
singer/songwriter and quite the wordsmith.
Thanks for the bandwidth,

Bruce Hornsby is playing 2 shows on March 25th and 26th in Arlington
Kentucky and another city in Kentucky. I am hoping of finding area tapers
to get in touch if you will be able to tape the show.
Also, I am still looking for 10-31-98 and 11-03-98 Yoshi's shows and would
appreciate any help in obtaining these. I have all the other patches in
trade if needed.
Thanks for the space and peace,
John Flannery

Dat heads,
SHACK are a band that are totally underrated and have only played 3
gigs in 5 years, to make a long story short they played one at the Astoria
in London on 1/21/99 supporting Mercury Rev for the NME Premier concert
series. Does ANYONE on this list know of any tapers who tape shows in
London??? Even if it is a total longshot I would trade 3 to one for a copy
of this show.... please ANY ideas would be great.
thank you,
Gavin

>While the AT853's are definitely a good value, with decent location,

While I agree with you that Sonics are more natural and open than CSB's, the
AT853's capture even more transient detail, are more transparent and natural
sounding than even Sonics. The thing is, the 853's capture the upper treble
(16K and up) so clearly, resulting in a very "airy" and open sound, so every
note is articulated, revealing more detail than any other mic's I know.
It's this "airy-openness" that makes for a very live sound, like a curtain
has been lifted from in front of the sound. It's like you can hear the
breath of the flutist or singer, even feel the breath, extremely open and
detailed. Plus the bass with the hypers is much "tighter" than with omni's,
yet the bass is still full. I've made tapes of David Grisman and Jimmy
Cliff, with the 853's positioned X/Y in a hat pointed directly at the right
and left stacks, so I was able to capture the stereo PA mix, which is
something omnis couldn't have done. I've read that card's and hypers can
sound unnatural or "colored", and I've heard this in other mic's, but I
haven't found this to be true at all with the 853's, they sound very natural
and accurate to what I heard live. BTW, I don't mean to sound like a
know-it-all, these are just my opinions based on experience as a musician
and in live taping, and trading for tapes made with different mic's and
comparing the different sounds
