Date: Sat, 6 Feb 1999 10:41:47 -0800 Howdy :) I just got my tix for D&T at Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, CA... section 104, row A. Balcony. Not great taping seats. Is there anyone who's got center floor seats that might be so gracious as to share a mic stand? Just curious if this is a good buy or > not. Well, I work for Kodak so you could take this as me being biased, but I've had nothing but good results from them (assuming they are the gold ones with the infoguard system). Saying that, I've got my system nailed down so tight as the moment, the only ones I've had a problem with were TDK's (and that was 2 coasters out of a box of 25). > What's wrong with your buddy's manual and why can't you just > can't you just call him?----j()e > __o > Joe Rioux _ \<, > jtr@vm.mv.com "It's an obsession but it's pleasin'." I don't figure that there > is anything for me to gain as far as recording goes, from one persons > personal oppinion of what is and what is not worth listening to. And for > some reason or another this person is looking for some information about > a Deck that a friend of his has loaned him. It's not like this is someone using illegal software and asking how to do something because they didn't buy the manual. The method is: 1) Hold down the CLOCK/SET button for two seconds: CLOCK will appear. 2) Press the RESET/+ button once: ID6 SET will appear. 3) Press CLOCK/SET again: ID6 will appear with 00 flashing (on mine at least) 4) Use + & - to cycle around the codes until you get the one you want (you'll be looking for 00 I believe). 5) Press CLOCK/SET to finish. And talking about asking questions about software when you should have a manual: > From: Paul Cho <pc132@columbia.edu> > Subject: Soundforge question > Date: Thu, 4 Feb 1999 21:45:51 -0500 (EST) > > Hello all, I know recently (within the month) somebody posted on how to > normalize files and such on Soundforge. That person also said that there > is some kind of noise reduction scheme where you sample a bit of the noise > that you want to get rid of (for instance, the silence inbetween songs or > something) and then you apply it to the rest of the file. Does anybody > here know how to do this? I can't seem to find the original post and I > checked the archives too. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, Paul. The method is to load the wavefile. Then goto PROCESS->Normalize. Hit scan levels (which goes through your wave looking for the peaks). When it comes back it will give you two values. If you want to just normalize this track to its most powerful (not correct terminology but you know what I mean) then make sure MAXIMIZE TO PEAK VOLUME is selected next to name and press OK. It will build an UNDO so you can test the result. If you are compiling a CDR of music, then select NORMALIZE TO -16 dB (MUSIC) next to name (and do this for each track you are going to cut). Then press OK. Now some news of my own. Bought a TB Fuji the other day. The card was an absolute bitch to install under '98. For a start it doesn't appear to even come with '98 drivers. Then the non-P&P setup for '98 assumes the card is a load of other things than it is before give you option to load in a driver of your own (win95 gives the option of loading your own driver before it takes a best guess). Finally I loaded in the fuji 95 driver along with what 98 thought it was, and everything seems to be okay. Sould quality is A1 (coming in from Turntable->Amp->Analog). I picked the card up for $190 brand new including 2day shipping, forgot the name of the company but they are on the net. Mail me if you need details. If anyone want DAT's putting on to CDR, drop me a line. If it is a show that I'd like to get a copy of, I'll do your transfer for free n/incl cost of CDR & postage. Finally, does anyone use the American Digital 7pin->COAX? They have a Dig-in for $55 or a full duplex (actually, two seperate COAX's) for $66. Any feedback on build quality, quality of the transfer etc? Many thanks, Andi.

Brunka-bass Also appearing: Hans Tammen(guitar) with Dafna Naphtali(electronics) ABC No Rio 156 Rivington NYC 212-254-3697 Music: 8-11pm/cover $3 Bruce Eisenbeil, a New York cutting-edge guitarist and composer, leads the Crosscurrent Trio, a modern, exciting, and highly original trio with bassist J. Brunka and drummer Ryan Sawyer. The trio explores a contrast of material with a wide range of moods, emotions and colors. Eisenbeil has performed with William Hooker, Roy Campbell Jr., Sabir Mateen, Daniel Carter, Steve Swell, Jackson Krall, Christina Wheeler, and many other jazz explorers. Eisenbeil has appeared at the Texaco New York Jazz Festival, Philadelphia Fringe Festival, Buffalo Interprov Festival, Philadelphia Mellon Jazz Festival and the Trenton Avant-Garde Festival. Eisenbeil's trio with alto saxophonist Rob Brown and drummer Lou Grassi played to enthusiastic audiences around the country last year, following the release of their CD Nine Wings (CIMP 144). David Lewis in Cadence magazine says,"Eisenbeil escapes the usual fretboard constraints in a virtuoso engagement with sound that transcends style." Larry Nai in Jazziz magazine calls him "Tantalizing". Steve Holtje in CMJ New Music Monthly states, "One of the thrills as an observer of any scene is spotting the new talent early. Downtown denizons are quickly getting excited about guitarist Bruce Eisenbeil . . . and one listen to his distinctive guitar approach on his album Nine Wings(CIMP) confirms that he comes from no particular school but instead has built a fresh style. His single-note lines are knotty and unpredictable, and he'll sometimes dwell on chiming, dissonant chords for several bars." J. Brunka ( contrabass) recently returned to his hometown of NYC after studying at college with Jay Anderson, Lynn Seaton, and Sue Hall-Powell. He plays jazz, R&B, and symphonic music, and looks forward to continue music in all environments. Ryan Sawyer is a drummer who approaches music as a constant jump from entirety to nothingness. Hailing from Texas, Sawyer moved to New York over a year ago and has studied the ways of music making with Bobby Previte and Thurman Barker. Among those people he has developed a musical relationship with include saxophonists Daniel Carter and Sabir Mateen. Plerase come out to a show. From: "Gary Davis" <gdavis@loop.com> Subject: CSN&Y but no P Reply-to: gdavis@loop.com Date: Sat, 6 Feb 1999 18:03:21 -0800 As exciting as a CSNY tour may be, it pushes back the reliably- rumoured further collaberations between Neil Young & Phish. Crazy Horse and PJ are very good bands, but (IMHO) Phish was/is the most *musically* superior band that Neil has every played with, and the collaberation showed great promise by being more than the sum of the parts... --G
From: Kristian Allen <kjallen@acsu.buffalo.edu> Subject: Cable question Date: Sat, 6 Feb 1999 23:17:43 -0500 (EST) Hello, I have a cable question for those in the know. I recently purchased a pair of Oade's ProLink Standard 100 monster XLR -> XLR cable. If I run my Nak 300's to a BeyerDynamic MV100 with the mics _off_ and listen through the line out jack on the MV100 with the 60 dB setting I can just barely hear a faint radio station (The beyer by its lonesome does not produce any radio stations that I can hear). Obviously this is not a desired sound effect and would most likely be masked by loud music if recording a concert or what not, but I'd rather not want to have it on the back of my mind. My question is, should I return the pair and purchase a pair of Audio Magic cables? Would this solve my cosmic radio station problem? Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help. Kristian

Also, I already asked about this before but was wondering if anyone had any better suggestions. I recently taped an acoustic duo from their "soundboard/mackie mixer" > my sony d8. My peaks were no higher than a about a 12? or so. At some points it produces a "distorted" signal. Now, I was told the signal that the soundboard passed was too strong for my d8. Since I was the only taper, I was wondering if there was any way I could salvage this show. My question- Since i am not that educated w/ cd-r software/burning, is there any programs that could diminish or remove this while converting to a cd or another DAT? would anyone be willing to help me with this? And, I'm always looking for a trade(s), take a look at my list. Keith http://members.tripod.com/~kcetera/

If it's analog distortion (as it appears to be, if your levels never reached 0), then I don't know of any software that claims to be able to help. Seth

I bought my KM-184's from Sonic Sense last July. They have been used less than 10 times. I am selling them because they are a bit large to stealth record with although I can attest that it is definately Possible. I paid $1,200 and will sell them for $1,000. I will throw in the 1 meter pair of mic cables I had custom made with Neutrik 90 degree right angle XLR connectors. (an $80 value). If need be I will trade them in on the KM-140s but i thought I'd try here to see if anyone was interested. Thanks for the bandwith. Jeff
