The hypocracy of this list is only matched by the stupidity of some
of its members.
This is not a 'report bootlegers list' - if someone wants to sell you music
I could really give a crap - whining to the list is not what this forum is
all about. If you don't want to buy his music just say NO - deriving
sympathy/
self importance by obnoxious posts to this list only increase its noise
and PISS ME OFF!!!
The RIAA would shut this whole list down if they thought they could, and
anyone who thinks they are friends or thinks it is ok to 'narc' others out
should do so on their own twisted moral grounds and not the 'music is free'/
'distract them from what we are doing' shit. If you feel so inclined KEEP
IT OFF THIS LIST!
If you think that bootlegging is morally wrong then I suggest you give me
all your dats that were taped of bands who do not allow taping and stealth
equipment. If you think that it is ok to stealth, but not bootleg then I
guess we are dealing with an 'illegalitites' spectrum that is probably too
far past your intellectual abilities to debate here (and again off topic).
Fact is that bootleggers have always helped circulate music, and that is
a FACT.
So please - just keep it to yourself, this whole eBay topis is a joke too -
"Hello FBI - I would like to report illegal Depeche Mode cds being sold
on eBay", man, I thought that was a _joke_ and I now believe it was not,
which just shows how stupid this list has become....
Can we get back to taping and trading now?

Hi Everyone
Anyone do any taping at the 9:30 Club here in Washington DC within the last
year? Last time I was there, I witnessed several discrete stealthers (and
some not so discrete) being hauled away throughout the evening. Maybe it
depends on the artist that's playing, but this place seems very unfriendly.

I have noticed that analog distortion is a lot harder to detect on
loudspeakers than it is on headphones. We had this multitrack master
that had a bad spot on it (yes, these multitrack machines get their bad
tapes too). The engineer that did the mixdown did not hear the garbled
sound in that spot. In mastering, I heard it on headphones. I tried to
hear it on the speakers and it is marginally difficult to tell that it
is really there.
So my point is that there could have been some analog distortion that
you couldn't hear at the venue, but it was actually there, and you
picked it up on your DAT tape when you gave it a listen. Something was
being overdriven in the mixer. I suspect that with the level setting you
had, you did everything you could to make it turn out right.

Incidently when you say 1db or 4db, that is really -1dbfs and -4dbfs
(decibal full-scale) to be precise. I know everyone knows what you mean.
I saw in the SAMPLITUDE manual recently that 0dbfs is also referred to
as "full code". FYI for you techie types out there.

One more final thought. If you have access to a computer and can get
your recording into it digitally. You can tell by zooming in and looking
at the waveform whether it's analog distortion or a digital-over.

I've decided to get out of active trading. Will still hold onto my current
dats and a handful of blanks, but I have a small stash of blank and
"one-pass" new dat tapes I'd like to pass on to someone. All were bought
from Art Munson at Cassette House and are still packed just as they came
from him. Would prefer to sell in "bricks" of 10 tapes. Most of what I
have is 60m HP/Maxell one-pass, degaussed and shrink-wrapped, with some
Ampex "new" 60m and a bit of unlabelled shell/Maxell tape new 90m.
Please contact me if interested.

I have my first problem with my M1. I'm going DAT-> cassette, and am at the
end of the show. I know when the tape get to the end on the M1, it stops and
rrewinds, so i let it go for a while, about 30 min after the end of the show.
When I go up to check it, unload is flashing, and i can't get the tape out.
i remove the power, put it back in, try again. no luck. finaly, i open it up
by prying the lid off, without any damage to the deck. I get the tape out, a
DGP90, being careful removing it from around the transports. I know the tapes
gone, but i check the deck for any malfunction. I play and the sound is
heavily distorted. I can make out the sound, but there is a very washy sound.
I run the cleaning tape, with no luck.
Any help or comments on how to fix it, or do i need to find my nearest Sony
service center? (It's still under the 90 day warranty)
Thanks,

If you have any info on this-get in touch. I would like to think I have
