From: love-0nl@wellmet.or.jp (Masato Kato) Subject: John Fishman Guest Appearance Date: Tue, 16 Feb 1999 15:37:05 +0900 John Fishman came to Japan last December and jammed with a Japanese local band called Big Frog. Fortunately, one of the people there recorded the show on DAT. Is anybody interested? I have to say beforehand that The sound quaity is below Phish-tapers' standard. This tape is for very hardcore Phish-heads only. I do not think the board tape is available. Masato Kato <LOVE-0NL@wellmet.or.jp> Love Minus Zero/No Limit

Date: Tue, 16 Feb 1999 00:21:41 -0800 (PST) Hi, I just got back from taping this show and it came out pretty nice considering the acoustics of the Palladium. I was about 10 feet from the stage in the center. Let me know if you are interested in this show. From: "Daniel Kantor" <dkantor@umich.edu> Subject: datport Date: Tue, 16 Feb 1999 03:35:26 -0500 And I'm assuming that the person with the Opcode problem has ALSO ruled out a sketchy coax cable connection as being a problem. Although some people around here seem to disagree with cables being a possible culprit in tracking down flakiness, I tend to believe the more prudent advice is to use (at least) a good quality VIDEO interconnect cable...having the correct impedance and good connectors does seem to make a difference in reliably transferring a DAT bitsteam... It was a sketchy coaxial cable problem. It now works great. As far as the D7 S/PDIF being not perfect, as far as I know it has worked pefectly. Also, I am using the Oades Active Cable and it was the non 7 pin part that was the problem. I replaced it with a video RCA cable and it has been fine. Dan

I think you (and almost everyone else who's posted) missed my point. Even if selling and trading are the same on a legal level (which they weren't only a couple of years ago), on a moral level they're very different. I know that I don't want to trade with anyone who can't see the difference. The "issue" of tapes that the bands don't allow not getting as much attention is a red herring--selling bootlegs for money is just plain wrong, and it discourages bands that might otherwise allow taping. P.S. Thanks to the anonymous timid ass who subscribed me to a fundamentalist Christian mailing list. Peace, <> David
From: Kurt Swanson <ksw@cs.lth.se> Subject: Fast rewind problem on Sony DTC-690 Date: 16 Feb 1999 10:45:20 +0100 I have an old Sony DTC-690 which has developed a problem in rewinding tapes. As the tape nears the beginning, the speed of rewind slows down as it should, but sometimes, particularly in longer rewinds and with a "warm" deck, this slow down reaches zero - no movement at all - when the tape reaches about the 2 minute mark. It whirrs a little (sensation of it spinning it wheels), and then gives up. I can then wait a second, and restart rewind, which may then succeed or the problem may reappear (repeat step one). I've previously had this problem with an overly active safety feature on an older analog tape deck. It was due to a rubber wheel which had become smooth due to years of use (the coefficient of friction decreasing yielding a "safer" mechanism). I simply scratched it a bit and everything was as it should be. Unfortunately after disassembling my DTC-690's drive mechanism as much as I felt sure of, I could find no such rubber wheel nor nothing similar to "scratch". Is this the "tension mod" problem which Sony decks have had? Has anyone had this problem? Any solution short of paying more than the old deck is worth to have it fixed professionally? -- © 1999 Kurt Swanson AB (ksw@dna.lth.se)

I bought a ZA2, and if ISA goes away, I'll probably not buy a new motherboard without it for a long time. From: Bill Mitchell <bill.mitchell@sabre.com> Subject: SBM1 Date: Tue, 16 Feb 1999 08:52:01 -0600 What exactly is this unit for? What are the benifits, reasons for, and use of a Super Bit Mapper? Does it improve the sound clarity, reduce noise, reduce possible digital problems? Just curious, i have seen these around a little bit and didn't ever know what they were all about. thanks bill mitchell -- CDR Trading Page: http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/jazz/432/trading.htm

From: Jules Fothergill <J.M.C.Fothergill@durham.ac.uk> Subject: ABB CD-R trade anyone? Oh, and a DAT-port question Date: Tue, 16 Feb 1999 15:15:50 +0000 Hey all, I've been lurking on this list for a while, learning a bit about stuff, you know, the usual... and this seems like as good a place as any to put in a request for the following shows on CD-R if anyone has them. I'm just getting started in the world of digital trading, and having looked around www.tapetrading.com it seems there aren't a lot of folks out there who can help with these, but if anyone can then please get back to me. I've got a copy of 10/5/97 @ Mud Island, Memphis, TN which is a 3rd gen digital clone (3 CDs), if anyone's interested in trading for it, but other than that I don't really have a lot to offer folks other than blanks. Anyway, the shows I'm after are the following: 8/7/97 - Red Rocks, Denver, CO 10/3/97 - Woodlands Pavilion, Woodlands, TX 3/7/98 - Beacon Theatre, NY 3/14/98 - Beacon Theatre, NY 3/20/98 - Beacon Theatre, NY 6/19/98 - Great Woods Amphitheatre, Mansfield, MA 6/30/98 - PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ 7/4/98 - Blockbuster Pavilion, Charlotte, NC 9/4/98 - Fox Theater, Atlanta, GA If anyone's got any really sweet sounding cd-r digital clones of any of those shows (preferably front of board) I'd really appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, and back to lurk mode I suppose :-) Jules Fothergill http://website.lineone.net/~julian.fothergill/bootlegs.htm p.s. Any word on how the DATport works as far as SCMS is concerned? I emailed opcode a few days back but have yet to hear from them...
