From: Aaron Westendorf <westea@rpi.edu> Subject: More DVD and DAT thoughts Date: Thu, 18 Feb 1999 01:39:24 -0500 Here's a thought that I've been pondering for awhile, and might be answered by some dat-head who has the DATport and DVD. Ok, if you have a DVD, and a decoder card, would the sound (digitally) be transferred from the DVD to the DAT? More importantly, would the 5.1 channel mix be sent to the USB audio, and if so, would the signal be converted to 2 channel? I would think it would have to be so that the signal could transfer to a sound card, traditionally 2 channel. So, once transferred to two channel or not, will the signal then be compatible with the DATport, so that I could do the D>A stage, only 2 channel for now since I've only got a stereo, in my DAT as opposed to my computer? If not, then will the 5.1 output on the soundcard, in S/PDIF format, be compatible with 2 channel decoding via my DAT so that I could still do D>A in my deck as opposed to the computer? Any help would be appreciated in this, I'm thinking about investing in the opcode adapter and possibly a new decoder card so that I can watch some sweet movies on my tv, and also do digital transfers for DAT>CD-R as well as DAT>HD>DAT.
