From: ZepMan@aol.com Subject: Question 9/30/76 DEAD Date: Sat, 20 Feb 1999 16:15:37 EST As I make the transformation from analog to DAT I was thumbing through some analog and making decisions on what to keep and what to part with 9/30/76 popped up. Does this exist in DAT format with less than 2 analog generations If not, is it worth transfering this show to DAT ? What do you all think thanks Marc:)
From: Richard_Peirce@iceinc.com (Richard Peirce) Subject: DAT to CDR effeiciently? Date: Sat, 20 Feb 1999 17:14:18 -0500 Hi DATheads. I have been making some CDRs from DAT recordings recently and I'm wondering if anyone has an efficient way of doing this. I did it by digitizing the whole show in one pass and then dividing that file up into the individual songs for import into Jam for CD burning. I used ProTools (MAC) to dig in and edit (also added a bit of EQ and Compression) then mixed down the songs to AIFF files to import into Adaptec Jam. The problem is that it takes a really long time to do it this way. Does anyone have suggestions on a more efficient way to get concert DAT recordings to CD? Thanks, richard_peirce@iceinc.com
From: David Hollister <dhollist@iphase.com> Subject: Van Morrison Date: Sat, 20 Feb 1999 16:10:01 -0700 I've heard mention before of a "Van-base" for identifying setlists. Is there really such a thing and if so can somebody send me a pointer to it? Thanks. -- David Hollister - S/W Engineer - Interphase Corp. DAT/CD list: http://www.public.asu.edu/~dhollist
From: Aaron Westendorf <westea@rpi.edu> Subject: ISO:The Machine Date: Sat, 20 Feb 1999 18:23:10 -0500 Since I'm a unidecker still, this is going to be a grovel of sorts, but I just found out that The Machine, a Pink Floyd cover band in the northeast, allows taping, and I'm curious if anyone has recorded any of their shows or has some in their collection. Also, if anyone manages to get this message tonight (Saturday, 2/20) and plans on taping the show, please let me know, I'm debating on whether I should bring my equipment to patch in since they don't allow soundboard patches. I know it's short notice, but I just found out the info. thanks, Aaron -- ==================================================== Aaron J. From: Alan Saferstein <gruvenon@southeast.net> Subject: ISO Pearl Jam 9/23/98, WPB, FL; Coral Sky Date: Sat, 20 Feb 1999 18:52:23 -0500 Hey there. I started to download this show from the .mp3 website and unfortunately .mp3 just doesn't live up to my quality expectations/standards. The recording itself is pretty darn good. Does anyone have this show for trade? Thanks, Alan

From: "Gary Davis" <gdavis@loop.com> Subject: Amazing Music!! Reply-to: gdavis@loop.com Date: Sat, 20 Feb 1999 16:57:59 -0800 I have also just completed a project recording an amazing Canadian woman (who for technical reasons will remain nameless) who plays the most wonderful Celtic/world music. This high-quality audience recording from a secret venue (last May) was from her five- stop mini tour, her first in four years. This woman has a remarkable voice, plays a beautiful harp, and is accented with electric guitar and approx. 8 other fine musicians. The music is some of the most wonderous ever written (spanning a period of 400 years), and I'm pleased to say, the recording (with Core Sound High End Binaural mics and extensive computer enhancement) captures the full beauty of her voice and the music. If you know who I'm talking about - you'll want this recording! Thank you, --Gary

Fox * EMC.Ver #2.5.02 ] -- At the 2/16 Ratdog/Planet Drum show at the Warfield, I lost my Sony 7-pin to coax cable. Is there anyone on the list that was there and happened to find it? If so, please drop me an email, and we'll work out getting it back to me (at KVHW on Friday possibly?). Thanks. Bryan

From: hellocyberworld@webtv.net Subject: Going rate for a DA-20? Date: Sun, 21 Feb 1999 00:03:59 -0500 (EST) I am trying to decide whether to sell mine or not. If I can get a decent price, I will likely upgrade. Here are the details: >Bought new in 11/95 >after <400 hours, the head assembly was replaced by Doug Oade. >I have put, at most, 150-175 hours on it since then >Warranty valid until 1/01 >Well cared for. In perfect working, and cosmetic, condition. Thank you so much for any input!

From: "Jon Weber" <timber@slip.net> Subject: Will Bernard 4tet tree, still open Date: Sun, 21 Feb 1999 00:00:12 -0800 If anyone's interested in getting in on the Will Bernard 4tet 1/20/99 (Bruno's, San Francisco) tree, let me know before Monday evening .... the response has been great, and I want to make sure everyone who needs the funk gets the funk. For those of you unaware, Will played with Charlie Hunter in TJ Kirk - his 4tet is some deliciously mindbending funk/jazz, with fat B3 organ and wayout slide guitar. The recording is FOB AKG391. Spots are still open for DAT and CDr leaves as well, so no need for unideckers to be shy. It requires either 1x60m dat or 2xCDr. Contact me at timber@slip.net to get grooving on this fine recording. -jon

From: Marc.Haber-lists@gmx.de (Marc Haber) Subject: DTC-60 mechanics problem? Date: Sun, 21 Feb 1999 14:47:44 GMT Hi! I own two Sony DTC-60 that have about 700 hours each; they nearly never run any more since I almost entirely moved over to CD-R. I use them as high quality ADC and DAC units while recording directly to hard disk via optical SPDIF link. However, when I use them to drive tapes, both units are experiencing some mechanical problems. Once the tape is loaded, both units work fine, but loading and unloading is a nightmare. It looks like the drive is not moving completely to the open position. When I am fast enough, I can load and remove the tape, but the display keeps flashing "OPEN" and after a few second, the transport closes automatically. When I pull on the silver rail that is on the tape transport (the one mentioned in the sign on the unit saying "insert tape beyond silver line"), the transport completes its open procedure, "OPEN" stops flashing and the transport stays open. Both decks have the same problem. Is this some kind of Sonyitis? One more thing: While I am very interested in the technical side of DATting, I share nearly no interest in trading and recording live performances. DAT-Heads has been maintaining a high volume of valued discussion; but I have to admit to only skimming the digests because of the high volume of traffic that does not interest me. The digestification prevents me from ignoring threads since no threading exists. When was the last time when people thought about splitting the digest or offering a non-digest form of the list? I think that a split to separate technical matters from trading and recording would be good. Greetings Marc -- ====================================== !! From: "Scott/ Deb McPherrin" <hippies@frontiernet.net> Subject: 01s Tour Tree wrap-up... Date: Sun, 21 Feb 1999 10:16:49 -0600 hey y'all, the last three tapes are set to roll out this week to the lead branches... they will be: 7/1 Great Woods DSBD / in-house FM taper anon by req 7/24 Shoreline FOB-> Schoeps taper anon by req 7/25 Shoreline FOB-> Schoeps taper anon by req sorry for the delay on finishing this up... we were waiting for an individual to edit his own Master of 7/19 Fiddler's Green as was his offer... apparently this is not going to happen any time soon... we do have a copy of 7/19 done FOB -> CSBs...the taper was obviously not close enough to the stacks, and the result is a dull and distant sounding tape...the upside to this tape is that the incredible wind that day is seemingly not present on the recording... so for this reason, 7/19 Fiddlers Green will not be released to the tree... i just don't see the need to spread the tape in its present form... instead, we will replace that one with the 7/1 DSBD / in-house FM tape... if someone would like to take a crack at editing the 7/19 CSB tape, i would be happy to shoot you off a copy... only someone experienced at digi editing, please... i may try this myself in March when i recieve the new DATport A+ and can get audio into the ol' 'puter... many thanks go out to Al Zeffer for co-adminning this monster of a project... and of course the tapers themselves who make it all possible... FURTHUR '99 anyone?...;-)/ peace scott
