How does the adapter looks like ? I think its a special (SONY)-Connector on one side and 2 XLR on the other side. Which of the 2 XLR is the digital output and which is the digital input of the DAT ? How are the signals situated on the pins of the XLR's ? Thanks a lot for any help......... Tschau Matthias Kunze e-mail: makunze@usa.net

The Oade cable is passive for output; it's only active on input. If you have a passive cable, a Midiman CO2 will convert the DATport's standard S/PDIF level to match the Sony native voltage levels. From: jflannery@excite.com Subject: Hornsby Circle of Tapers Network Update Date: Mon, 22 Feb 1999 12:05:02 PST I have been setting up a "Circle of Tapers" for the upcoming Bruce Hornsby tour which begins at the end of March. I am collecting the names, equipment info, and e-mail addresses from all tapers willing to be a part of the "network". If you are a part of the "network of tapers" you will be sent a list of all tapers for every show of the tour (if I can get every show covered). The idea is to be able to set up trades with the other tapers in the circle for the shows you taped. I am hoping of getting a board taper and a audience taper for every show and so far it is coming along very nice. What follows is the shows I haven't found a taper yet, or a show where I feel we need a couple more people. If there is a number next to the dates below-that represents current number of tapers involved with that show... 3-30-99 Williamsburg, VA (no one confirmed yet) 4-01-99 Williamsburg, VA (no one confirmed yet) 4-03-99 Wallingford, CT (only 1 confirmed so far) 4-06-99 Northampton, MA (only 1 confirmed so far) 4-08/09-99 Portsmouth, NH (no one confirmed yet) 4-12-99 Morristown, NJ (no one confirmed yet) 4-13-99 New York, NY (no one confirmed yet) In total, I have sufficient coverage for 12 of the 19 dates with the 7 listed above. If you would like to be apart of this ambitious project, please get in touch! I plan on picking this tour up as it makes it's way across the Midwest and those dates are to be announced yet. Thanks for the space and peace, John Flannery http://www.tapetrading.com/lists/j/f/jflannery@excite.com.html _______________________________________________________ Get your free, private email at http://mail.excite.com/
From: jflannery@excite.com Subject: Hornsby "Circle of Tapers " update Date: Mon, 22 Feb 1999 12:14:43 PST I have been putting together a Circle of Tapers for the upcoming Bruce Hornsby tour starting at the end of March. We still are looking for tapers for a few shows yet and I will list below. Either I have no one or only 1 taper at the present time. I would like to have at least 2 for each show with one taping from the board and the other doing a audience recording. If you are a part of the "circle" you will receive in mid-March (or sooner if I can fill these dates up) a list of every taper, their e-mail, and equipment used for every show of the tour which now totals 19 dates. I have 12 covered fairly well and below is the 7 I need help with yet... 3-30 & 4-01-99 Williamsburg, VA (no one confirmed yet) 4-03-99 Wallingford, CT (only one confirmed so far) 4-08/09-99 Portsmouth, NH (no one confirmed yet) 4-12-99 Morristown, NJ (no one confirmed yet) 4-13-99 New York, NY (no one confirmed yet) If you want to be a part of this ambitious project and are indeed attending some of these shows-please get in touch! More dates are gonna be added as we go so this will be a ongoing project for awhile at least. I plan on picking 5-6 shows in the Midwest to attend which looks like will be in May sometime. Thanks for the space and to all who are currently involved with this project. I currently have a beyerdynamic MV100 preamp and was wondering how this compares to a Zerfiro Inbox. Would the Preamp of a Beyer coupled with the A/D of a sony M1 sound worse or better than the preamp A/D combo Zefiro. Any opinions about the Zefiro would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Kristian

Richard, With Bias Peak 2.0 (actually 2.0.1 is out now) you can separate your one large file into regions and write directly to cd using Jam. Jam will see each region as an individual track and burn with 0 second gaps. I personally think ProTools is overkill for what we tapers do. You can purchase many plug-ins for Peak for eq purposes and it does have DSP built-in. Email me if you need any further assistance. At the very least there are fade ins/outs. What if you want to boost the volume, EQ, or normalize the music first? What if you want to remove annoying glitches (e.g. a sneeze, a cough, a bit of diginoise)? Can you do all that with a stand alone machine? Who *really* goes straight from dat to cdr regularly? (Remind me not to trade with you if you do!) <g> Sorry, but when people ask me I tell them to stay away from the stand alone machines if they are really serious about it.

From: Tim Johnston <johnston@engr.mun.ca> Subject: Mic Stands Date: Mon, 22 Feb 1999 20:29:50 -0330 (NST) I'd just like to say a belated thank you to all the people that replied to my question about mic stands last week. Of the replies that I received, it seems that those who own a Shure S15A really like it. Another stand that was mentioned is the Monfrotto MF3405 which has air cushioned stages so that if a screw is loosened the mics won't come crashing down. There were also numerous suggestions that a good light stand (Bogen was the brand name most often mentioned) would be just as adequate as any mic stand. I decided to go around to some serious camera stores and managed to find a pretty good deal on a light stand that extends to about 9 feet. I generally don't tape concerts at huge venues, so I figure that this height will be sufficient for taping. Another big plus was that the stand was on sale for 55 dollars (canadian). I used it for taping Modest Mouse on Saturday night and thought it was fine. As well, if you're interested in buying a stand over the web, there are numerous places to choose from. In no particular order, Sonic Sense, Masterpiece Audio, Oades, and Klay Anderson audio all sell mic stands.
