From: <navalanc@ix.netcom.com> Subject: Megasoft, chapter 11, been sold Date: Sat, 1 Sep 56 04:37:41 -0000 Hello, I just wanted to let you all know what happened to Megasoft. The company had filed for chapter 11 several weeks ago and has since been sold. The company that bought them does not sell blank media. I accepted a position with a compnay called Media Supply out of Exton, PA. This company will allow me to do everything I had done at Megasoft (and alot more) just better, faster and less expensively. We are the #1 Mitsui dealer in the country and we are the largest domestic distributor of CDR media in the United States. Thank you to all that supported me during my 4 years at Megasoft. I am sorry for the problems we had towards the end. It had become increasingly difficult to do business the last several months. You just dont go chapter 11 overnight. Please feel free to call or email me if I can answer any questions that you may have. Thanks again! Joe Joe Navalance Account Manager Media Supply 800-681-9214 navalanc@ix.netcom.com
From: Microsoft Sales <saleshlp@microsoft.com> Subject: happy99.exe is real Date: Fri, 26 Feb 1999 13:38:25 -0800 We've all seen enough false warnings to be cynical that warnings about e'mail messages (Good Times, Join the Club etc.) are all hoaxes, but DAT-Heads Digest #804 contained an attachment called happy99.exe that includes a real "worm." If you never clicked on the attachment, then you don't need to do anything or worry about it. If you clicked on it and saw the fireworks, then you should erase it from your computer. From: "Jim Weddle, Jr" <jweddle1@erols.com> Subject: fully modified AA DTI 1.0 scms=0 forsale Date: Fri, 26 Feb 1999 19:00:41 -0500 This is the Audio Alchemy DTI 1.0 box with upgraded AA power supply. It was designed to be a 'jitter box' which will make your digital signal more stable, etc. I had it modified and now sets all digital signals outgoing to 00, this allows unlimited digital copies. Do NOT be confused with standard, un-modified/stock DTI 1.0 box's They do NOT set scms=0. Also special to the box during the modification is a 2nd digital ouput. So, you can feed 2 dat decks at one time. (1 dat deck/playback input > scms box > 2 dat decks/recoding) $200 shipping included thanks jim
From: "Ross Warren, Jr." <rwarren@i-america.net> Subject: D100 battery problems and life Date: Fri, 26 Feb 1999 19:06:42 -0500 Karin, You're problems are typical with the D100. Especially the part about the Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries that come with it being "crap". I use mine for *playing* only while in the car (I use one of those cassette adapter things to plug into my cassette deck and get the sound out). I do however get around 90 minutes to 2 hours out of them in "play". However, using "real" AA Alkaline batteries should get you up to 1 1/2 to 2 hours of record time (easily), depending on how much you use the light and/or headphones or give a patch out to someone else.....using the headphones or giving a patch out will definitely cut down on your record time by nearly a third. So, how to get around this? Easiest method is to get a 3 D-Cell powerpack or 3-Cell powerpack and power the D100 though the same input plug that the AC adapter connects to. This will give you 10 to 15 hours of record time easily. OK, where to get one? Klay Anderson Audio has these I think. At least he used to. They are made by Sony. Also, try Sonic Studios. Other ways to get one is to make one yourself using Radio Shack parts. Or even better, get the following parts: (I'm cutting this from a previous email where I saved the info) 3-D cell holder: > >Keystone Electronics Corp >31-07 20th Road >Astoria, NY 11105-2017 >Tele: 718-956-8900 >Fax: 718-956-9040 >Web: http://www.keyelco.com > >They don't sell direct, but through a list of local >stocking retailers. The holders I'm going to start using >for myself are their catalog number #153. These are D cell >aluminum holders, already connected in series. They also >have a C cell holder #150 available. > >The cost quoted to me was in the $4.14 range each, plus >shipping. I haven't yet checked with them to see if there >was a "minimum" order necessary. Wanted to pass along that I have found another source for a 4.0mm x 1.7mm right angle plug w/ 6ft cable: PN# 090-491 $1.10 + Shipping Parts Express 1-800-338-0531 sales@parts-express.com http://www.parts-express.com So, you'd solder the leads from this 6 foot cable to the battery holder pack and "boom" you'd have a solution that'd power the D100 for around 12 to 15 hours on good batteries (around 10 on not-so-good batteries). Note, that other people have come up with ways to power the D100 or M1 via the internal battery contacts. Using the same 3 D-Cells has been reported to power it for 45 (yes! 45 hours!). This is because the limiting operation voltage using the internal contacts is not as tightly regulated as when the D100 "thinks" it's being supplied via an external AC adapter. But either way gives you a LOT of record time. Of course it won't be as "stealthy" but the best solution to that problem is simply to go to the bathroom and change out the AA batteries between sets :-) Finally, if you're really in this for the long haul, buy an Eco-charge rechargeable battery pack and "be done with it". Good luck, and I hope this has been useful. (better than a reposting of the last digest ;^) Ross rwarren@i-america.net infinite diversity, infinite combinations

Date: Thu, 25 Feb 1999 16:37:43 EST I'm just wondering if anyone on the list that have had any experience using the Audio Technica Pro 35 R mic. I see they are good for instruments, and u can clip them onto drums. Has anyone taped any shows or used these at all? If so could I get your opinion on them? I'm thinking of purchasing a pair but i'd like to hear some feedback before i buy them. Please respond to me privately or to the list, however u want to do it. Thanx Brad Personally, I like the 35x for micing drums and wind instruments. It offers a lot of performance for the dollar. However, for recording shows, the AT831 is less expensive and has better freq. response. Even better is the AT853, which sounds better then either one of these and is still affordable. The At 853 is a little larger than the others, but still quite stealth able. Yeah. Tell her to shut up. I'm not kidding. Anything either of you says will be plainly audible on the tape. My tape of a Brian Setzer show is marred by my psycho then-girlfriend on a rampage. Now if I'm attending the show with someone, I set down ground rules first - no talking, bring me a glass of water every now and then, etc. (I'm perfectly willing to make up for it later :) If she can't agree to these rules, don't go, or don't tape. If she's the type that requires attention and isn't really into the band, I can guarantee you a bad time, and a bad tape. It's a lot easier if you're with one of your buds who digs the band as much as you do. Another thing to complicate matters is that if you have the mics on your glasses or hat, turning your head even slightly will also come through on playback - enough of it will make you dizzy if you are listening through headphones. I recorded a ska band at a local bar and was trying to hold still while resisting the urge to skank madly like everyone else - you can ear my head bobbing slightly anyway, as well as the waitress asking me if I want a drink. Sacrifices have to be made. I usually tape alone. Good luck, Matt Another plug for my newbie page: http://homepages.together.net/~magnew/dattips.htm

Say it is so, Please let me know if you are as there are many shows I'd love to hear especially the Mercury Rev playing with Kevin Shields. That's right, check out the line-up. bowlie weekender - april 23rd to 25th* april 23rd - april 25th 1999 @ Camber Sands Holiday Centre UK this is the confirmed line-up to date, as more are added we'll let you know (updated 24th february 1999 with the latest confirmations): belle & sebastian mercury rev + kevin shields pavement (still tbc) the delgados v-twin the divine comedy sleater-kinney a.c. acoustics looper vic godard camera obscura bill wells octet broadcast ladybug transistor sodastream cornelius luna god speed you black emperor salako cinema + more to be confirmed tickets are #85.00 (eighty five pounds) for a weekend pass to include festival entrance and chalet accommodation. the capacity is limited to 2,600 and will go on sale on saturday 20th february 1999 exclusively from ticketweb, either by phone on 0171-771-2000 or online at http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/ apartments must be booked as a complete 4,5,6 or 7 bed unit. a #25.00 (twenty five pounds) refundable damages deposit will be required from each person on arrival at the site and will be refunded when leaving the site. booking is similiar to how you book a hotel, i.e. you book and pay for the room and not per person, so you will need all your money together before you phone up to book the tickets. tickets are selling very fast, so if you haven't booked your tickets yet, do so now as we think it may sell out by the weekend of 29th february. we're pretty sure that all the 4 person and 7 person chalets are sold, so it's only 5 and 6 person chalets left. *bowlie weekender - the explanation! the idea for this festival came from stuart murdoch and neil from the belle & sebastian camp whereby they wanted to take over a holiday camp and stage a festival over a weekend with exciting new and already established bands of their choice. the location for the site is the Camber Sands Holiday Centre in Camber Sands between Hastings & Rye on the south-east coast of england. it is set to take place on friday april 23rd until sunday april 25th. tickets are being issued as a weekend pass only as the allocation is limited to 2,600 and will be sold as a package where you gain entrance to the festival but this will also include a chalet apartment with TV and private cooking and shower facilities. each apartment sleeps four to six people and everyone will be encouraged to take apartments with friends as no one can take an apartment for four unless they pay for four tickets. this may appear to be too formal but due to the very limited allocation and the proposed line-up it is likely to sell very fast. apartments will be available from friday afternoon until monday morning and a returnable deposit of around #25.00 will be refunded on inspection of the apartment after the festival is finished. the weekend pass to include accommodation and festival entrance will be #85.00. the live music will take place from friday until sunday with a club night after each show with all ticket holders will be able to make full use of all the facilities which include catering outlets, late bars until 4am, go-karting, swimming, playstations etc. plus the beach is a 7-minute walk from the site. the live music will be divided into two stages. the main stage has a capacity of 2,300 people and the smaller stage has a 950 capacity. both are indoor venues so this defeats the general weather concerns that a lot of festivals encounter. each person that purchases a ticket will be advised that the rooms have strict capacity and entrance will be on a first come first served basis as to avoid overcrowding. there is a third smaller venue with a bar on the site, which will have video monitors broadcasting live from the main stage as it happens.
