From: Edward B McGrath <sac19854@saclink.csus.edu> Subject: Marley collectors: A Question Date: Sat, 17 Apr 1999 14:21:57 -0700 (PDT) HI- I was wondering if anyone out there with Bob Marley shows has heard any of the Janpanese import cd's that were released a bit ago. There are about 7 or 8 double disc live shows available, some of which I have seen floating around the taping community. I was wondering if these releases include the full shows or are they edited and cut up at all? Does anyone know? How do they sound in comparison to the handful of shows that are avaiable for trade? Just trying to decide if they are a worthy investment at $40 a pop or not........ thanks-- Barin

Don't wanna make anyone mad >just giving my opinion. Me and the rest of us could in no way have guessed >that that was copyrightrf or trademarked by Core-Sound Not to burst your bubble, but "Super Size" is a trademark of McDonald's. (AFAIK, Baskin-Robbins tried using it, but they had to stop and started their own trademark, "Scooper Size".) Also, there is quite a bit of practical difference between a trademark and a copyright. And while I cringe at it somewhat, "Stealth Mics" is completely trademarkable, as far as I can tell. When did you hear the words "Stealth Mics" being used together before Core did it? Unless someone other than Core did, I think it would almost certainly stand up in court. (IANAL, FWIW.) Peace, <> David

Thevocal mix was kind of weird but the tapes came out pretty good considering. Both bands played for 1/2 an hour and reel big Fish was unplugged during their last song because of an insane crowd. Let me know if either of these tapes interest you. Reply-To: chefsal1@gateway.net Date: Sat, 17 Apr 1999 23:33:35 -0400 Hey now, I'm not one to beg but all this talk is killing me. I'll sell my soul if anyone is willing to do a B/P for any or all of the Phil and Phriends shows. Dat or CDR. I can do D>A>D cdr's(or dat's) from dat and make cdr dupes but I have little to trade. I will run an analog or cdr tree of these shows in my area(upstate NY). We need to share these shows with as many people as possible! From: "Gary Davis" <gdavis@loop.com> Subject: Sloan special offer! Reply-to: gdavis@loop.com Date: Sat, 17 Apr 1999 20:46:07 -0700 For all you fans of Halifax's own conglomeration of Nirvana and the Beatles, known locally and globally as Sloan, I have created a special CDR version of the music portion of their 4/28/98 Much Music Intimate & Interactive show (Navy Blue period), along with (most of) the classic Warehouse, Toronto 2/24/95 FM broadcast. Since this CD runs 77 mins as an overburn, it is somewhat tricky to copy (well, it can be easily copied onto an 80min blank), and therefore, I'd like to run all the copies directly from my computer - and ASAP. So please respond right now if interested. Will trade for other Sloan, punk/grunge FM/SBDs, or blank... thank you! --Gary

Lets not get apples and oranges mixed up here... normalizing and compressing are two different things, both have their uses. I can tell you this much-- I love Soundforge, incredible software. However the compressor on it sounds bad! And I know what a good compressor sounds like. Normalizing (if it hasnt been discussed to death here already) is extremely useful and can do no wrong. Were you (the person I was quoting) trying to say that somehow normalizing "dirties up" the sound? mrberwell

From: CK <toen0013@tc.umn.edu> Subject: CD Cover Art (Can Do!) and SonicPort Date: Sun, 18 Apr 1999 02:51:51 -0500 First the somewhat non-relevant part of the message.. I am offering my services of making artwork for your CDR's (from your DAT masters *ONLY*) in exchange for copies of those CDR's. I have plenty of really good examples to show if anybody is interested - by artists like Silverchair, Liz Phair, Placebo, Stabbing Westward, Zebrahead, Orbital, KMFDM, Depeche Mode, Rammstein, etc.. I just want to specify, however, that I am *NOT* interested in doing any artwork for any jam bands of any kind (DMB, Phish, GD, SCI, PMB, Pearl Jam, etc..) Nothing against those bands, I just have no interest in them and I only really want to recieve CDr's of bands that I or at least one of my friends has the slightest interest in. For the actual DAT content here, i have two questions. I'm not very experienced with audio equipment so bare with me. What is essentially the difference between the DATport and the Sonicport? I have a P2-350 w/ a 4x burner and a Sony D7, and i'd like to do my own Digital DAT->CDR conversions instead of having other people do it for me all the time.. Just wondering what the advantage of the Sonicport is, and if it would be of interest to me or not? The other DAT content: Any tapers of electronic/techno/industrial/electro music out there? I'd love to do some trading. I can currently only copy CDR's and do digital clones only on REALLY special requests. I have artists such as Orbital, Not Breathing, DJ Sasha, BT, Front242, Underworld, etc.. If this post was all out of line, I'm really sorry. This is only my 2nd post to this list. :) Thanks! -CK
From: "Anders Johansson" <ajo@algonet.se> Subject: NiMHs won´t charge - solved! Date: Sun, 18 Apr 1999 17:19:50 +0200 When you completely empty a NiMH battery - the Sony D100 charger will not charge the battery - probably because the internal resistance of the battery is too low when it is empty. The solution to this is very simple: connect a charged battery in parallel (+ to +) with the empty battery (a minute or two will do) - in this way you force some charge into the empty one - the internal resistance will increase and - voila - you can charge the battery in the Sony charger!! Worked out very good for all my four empty NiMH batteries. Anders
From: udo@dinges.xs4all.nl (Udo van den Heuvel) Subject: detailled info sennheiser mke40-60 capsules? Date: 18 Apr 99 17:36:04 +0100 Hello All! Does anyone know where I can find detailled info on the sennheiser mke40-60 capsules (small lavaliers)? I measured 9.xx volts across the K6 powering supplies when they're without a load but need exact info: I'd like to know about their power requirements (voltage, current) and more. I think info about the K6's powering capabilities would be useful too. Can you help me? Please let me know! Thanks. Udo --
