I have a descent collection of Dat tapes, and a huge collection of analog. I also have the ability to do DAT and MD so i can accept the concert in either form. I am also looking for The ozzy Osbourne Concert from Richfield OH (Cleveland) in 1992. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Brian huntrrse@wirefire.com
From: Scott Seeley <seeley@pinn.net> Subject: falling prices on digital i/o Date: Mon, 19 Apr 1999 18:43:24 -0400 Hi all, I've got some good news for people looking to connect DAT decks to their PC's: First, I spoke with Sam Ash (1-800-4-SAMASH) on Friday and they are selling Dat-ports for only $150. That's $100 under list, and $50 cheaper than any other prices that I've seen. They only had 3 in stock at the moment, but I'm sure they can order more for the same price. Remember, this gizmo needs Win98 to work. Win95 won't do it, even if you have the more recent release with USB support. (The Sam Ash salesman was convinced Win95 would work but that is incorrect. Hence the perils of low-cost shopping...) Second, a few weeks ago I posted that Turtle Beach's Montego II soundcard (with the separate digital i/o attachment, sold separately) would be available for around $230-260 for the whole setup. I was wrong. The main card is $99 list/$79 street, and I found out today that the expander card will list "in the $79 to $99 range". So, around $160-$170 street price for the whole she-bang. In other words, it's only a few bucks more than a dat-port, and - oh yeah! - it also works as a soundcard too. :-) As Dave Egan pointed out in his own post, the digital i/o expander card is not available and they've been promising it since last year. Without it, the Montego II is useless as a digital interface. Their rep said again today that they're shooting for a release "sometime this spring", so we'll see. (Of course, spring lasts until June, and it may come out even later so if you need something right away then this is not an option for you.) Assuming this thing works properly (and doesn't auto-resample 44.1 like the SoundBlaster Live), it'll easily be the cheapest digital i/o soundcard that I know of. Hope this helps, Scott

From: "Craig Hoffman" <Craig.Hoffman@disney.com> Subject: D-100 questions Date: Mon, 19 Apr 1999 16:36:31 -0700 Thinking of trading in my D-8 for a D-100 since the D-100 has less noise and a limiter on the mic preamp, and I have some questions. 1). Is the noise level on the D-100 noticeably less? 2). How good is the limiter on the D-100? Do sound levels get loud and just don't get louder, or do they get loud and then drop down? 3). Is the limiter on the D-100 a true stereo limiter? (Sounds on the left channel will not affect sound levels on the right?) 4). The local store will take trade-ins of equipment. It currently only has a D-100 demo, and my D-8 is a couple years old with less than 30 hours on it (only used for my wife's concerts and a few rehearsals). What should I expect to pay for the D-100 demo and what should I get for my D-8? I am not looking to not pay a lot, I just don't want to get reamed. Thanks for any help. Craig Hoffman

From: CosmicKC@aol.com Subject: Oh Sh*t! Don't get rid of those DATS just yet. Reply-To: CosmicKC@aol.com Date: Mon, 19 Apr 1999 21:13:08 EDT Sorry for lack of DAT content, but I thought I should share this. I have been using HHB and Mitsui CDR's to clone my DAT tapes to. I use the HHB CDR-800 to do the burns. Everything has worked wonderfully but recently I have had 2 discs go bad on me. Not from the burning or mishandling. They have developed pitted holes on the printable(or writeable) surface. I take great care of these discs and use a CDR pen. I never leave the discs laying around or even leave them for extended periods in my cd players. What it looks like has happened is a bubble has formed on the printable surface and then it has flaked off!!!!! Don't get rid of those DATS just yet! I thought I might pass this on and see if anyone else has had the same experience. I have never really given much thought to putting a label on the CDR's, but maybe we should be?? Are there any other media(s) out there that might be safer to use??? I was always told that HHB and Mitsui's were the best. Kelly
From: "Jim Stiefel" <cerph@wenet.net> Subject: Stealth Microphones (tm) ?? Date: Mon, 19 Apr 1999 18:16:01 -0700 So Len, is the "registered trademark" (which is normally indicated by "(R)", not "(tm)") on "Stealth Microphones" or "Stealth Mics"? And is it really registered, or are you just claiming the mark? Anyone can claim a trademark by using (tm); actually getting it through the trademark office to register it is a more challenging task. Typically the trademark office will not issue a trademark registration for a mark that is considered descriptive as "Stealth Microphones" is. Jim

From: Edward B McGrath <sac19854@saclink.csus.edu> Subject: Ozomatli West Coast dates Reply-To: Edward B McGrath <sac19854@saclink.csus.edu> Date: Mon, 19 Apr 1999 18:46:09 -0700 (PDT) Hi all- Sorry to keep posting about this band but here are the dates of their upcoming shows. They are cool with tapers but are pretty new so they might not be informing the venues. If anyone hassles you ask to speak to Lalo (La-low) and he should hook you up. If you have good mics, I recommend that you use them instead of patching into the board as I recently did this and got a very uneven mix. The vocals of their MC were turned up so high that it drowned out everything else. Also, Ozomatli parades into and out of the show so you won't catch that if you run off the soundboard. At the show on Saturday, the band took the show out into the street and continued to play for another 10 minutes or so before they went back inside. For those of you not familiar with this band, they are a Funk/Latin/Salsa/Hip-hop band that is unlike anything you have ever heard. Their shows are really fun. Lalo told me he would appreciate copies of the shows if you tape them and that you spread the music to others. Go tape them and contact me once you do so we can trade!
