I didn't see the original post on this, but if you're talking about running
the (pre-VLZ) 1202 on batteries, it uses +/-15V internally. But you can get
a service manual (with schematic) from Mackie if you want to build the mic
preamps, which use easily found discrete transistors. I got the schematic
and built a tiny, four-input mic preamp to do interviews for our radio show
on the road. The preamp runs on four 9V batteries and fits in a case not
much bigger than the batteries themselves.

hi,
a friend of mine was recently telling me about Joe Ely playing with
some/all of Los Lobos. anyone have any of these shows? have lot's of los
lobos and a few joe ely shows to offer in trade...
also, i found those 21 DATs that were MIA ;)
interested in any of the recent JID shows - got many/most of the shows from
'98 to offer in trade
finally, would love to setup some quick trades for NOJHF shows - have
plenty to offer from past years including the AMAZING pharoah sanders and
santana performance from '97, as well as an extensive jazz list!

I taped MMW there back in spring of 96, there were a few other tapers there. I'd say as long as scofield allows taping, it shouldnt be a problem. I think they made me keep it low as to not interefere with anyone's view

This was covered here a few years ago. It cannot be done practically as the
Mackie uses a couple of bi-polar voltages including +48 for phantom. One
would need a rack of center-tapped battery packs to accomplish this.

Hi,
If anyone taped the Cranberries show at the Orpheum in Boston last night (I
understand WBCN radio aired the entire show) and you're interested in
trading, please send me email privately at:
tim_desai@dg.com
I was there - the show was excellent & the sound quality was great even in
the back. Security was a little overboard at times. Big Brother was
watching! They were shining flashlights at you just to check you out,
asking people if they thought anyone around them was sitting in a seat
without a ticket for that seat & barging into the middle of a packed row
just to grab the film out of someone's camera... Gimme a break! - maybe it
was like this only where I was sitting in the rear of the orchestra section.
Despite the oddly tight security (considering how well-behaved the crowd was
in general), it was a great show.

Reply-To: dansegal@pcnet.com
Date: Tue, 4 May 1999 13:03:23 -0400
This kinda relates to the current 'mic placement' thread so I thought I
would add my thoughts.
I patched into a rig recently where the mics were placed on-stage about 12
inches from the main PA stacks. The resultant tape sounds phenomenal. There
is not much crowd noise yet the tape does not sound sterile like a
sterotypical soundboard recording. I mentioned this technique to someone
whose opinion I value and was told that it's not his favorite way to record
live music (at least in a small club). OK, fine. A few weeks ago I faced a
taping dilemma in that I couldn't set my mics up where I wanted to because I
was late in getting there. So, I placed both mics directly in front of the
stage-left PA stack, about 8 inches away. After about an hour I decided to
just aim the mics toward the stage (at this point I knew this tape would be
more of an experiment anyway). In subsequent listens, I can honestly say
that I like the sound of the first portion of the tape much, much better.
So, my opinion is that, if I have my choice, I want to place my mics
directly in front of the stacks.
That is my opinion. What is yours?

As the add says, I have a basically brand new Porta Brace RM-Deluxe case for
sale. It accompanies the Audio Recorder Case that they sell for the HHb PDR
1000, DAP1 or D-10 Pro II & attaches to it or can be used stand alone. It's
main compartment is 11"L x 2 3/4"W x 6 1/2"H with a clear top cover, and has
an external front pocket. It has a padded front with internal Velcro
separators to section of the main compartment. It's color is the standard
blue the they ship. Can be used as a deck bag or a utility bag to hold a
pre-amp, external A/D converter, battery, ect. I purchased it last June &
ended up using it 1 time. Brand new, it cost $98.00. I will sell it,
including shipping for $75.00. Email me if you are interested.
