Subject: Info needed on DTC-ZE700

Hello Everyone,
Just purchased a DTC-ZE700 from a friend. He sold it to me for
$200.00, used only for about 20 hours of 6 track Cassette>DAT masters, looks
to be in perfect condition... a pretty good deal, right? I'm wondering if
there is a way to check the hours on the heads, or activate any other
'secret' functions on this deck? Can anyone give more info I should know
about this deck? Anything new I can learn about it would be a big help.
Thanks for the space.
Greg.
PS> Being a uni-decker (I never thought I fall under that category again!) I
can only do CDR copies of DATs (and other CDRs, of course). What is the going
ratio on a CDR for DAT trade? 2 CDRs for 1 DAT?, 3:1? Should I normally
expect people to insert start ID's on DAT trades? It certainly makes it a lot
easier to do DAT>CDR transfers. If anyone wants to see my DAT/CDR list, its
at: http://members.aol.com/meandmrray/list.html

Looking for a copy of this show (Phish 11-2-98), my second
daughter was born that night (I had to leave the show just
after "Great Gig .." !!) . I noticed it was treed here at
one point, so if anyone is willing to do a B&P please let
me know.
Also looking for the other Utah show (11/97) I attended.
Thanks!

I have a PCM-2500A/B, R300, DTC-57ES, and a DTC-500ES. The two old
sony's, 2500 and 500, both have snapped up 90m DDS Maxells numerous times.
The new ones don't seem to do it at all. I have had good luck with DDS
and even the Professional SONY service center in N.J. said there was no
problem with using them at all. I asked in 1996 when I sent in my 2500
for brakes.
If anyone is using CDRWIN (www.goldenhawk.com) don't put the subcode "DCP"
(digital copy permitted) in the subcode area. It won't fix what you feel
it should fix, which is SCMS related issues. I have tried it and it
doesn't do anything. However the subcode "4CH" (4 channel audio) will
work if you are digitally transferring to a DAT that has a 4 channel
capability (older modified DATS, etc..)

Seeking tapes from the early Feb. shows in New York. Also, some
Philadelphia radio station announced a new tour for Bromberg and his
"big" band. Anyone know dates?

When taking tapes I've been playing in my D8 and putting them back into my
Sony DTC-790, more often than not if I try to forward the tape I instead get
a message saying "TAPE END" or "CAUTION" even if the tape is only a few
minutes from the start. Why would one tape deck balk at handling a DAT
that runs fine in the other machine?
Reasonably new at this,

Subject: Cheap Mic that Reduces Bottoming out?

Hi ya,
Does anyone here have any recommendations for a Mic that I can use with my
Digital Camcorder to reduce the Noise overload. I have Sonics for my DAT
machine and that would work fine but they are rather expensive for a sound
I am not that worried about. (Ie I use my DAT too and the opportunity to
film with permission are limited). I just want to be able to record without
the overload. Any mic (It does not matter about size) with a Small jack
connection is OK but I don't know what it is that I am looking for. Any
Advice would be welcome. Thanks
Jon
