Oops, I just posted:
<<....connecting identical cardioid patterns (or any unipolar pattern for
that matter) back to back and out of phase should certainly generate a
figure 8, but are the capsules inside this stereo mic really 180 deg. back
to back? I've never used this mic, let alone snooped under the grille, but
if it has an orthodox X-Y capsule orientation of say 120 deg. then the
output is going to be more of a letter "B" than a figure "8" <g> >>
After some coffee and some sums, I have to retract some of that: Perhaps
counter-intuitively, the resultant pattern of combining the two cardioids
out of phase is indeed a symmetric 8-type figure, and not a lopsided
"letter B", _irrespective_ of whether the X-Y included angle was 90,
120,150 180 deg. etc.). Only at 180 deg X-Y,though, do you get the exact
cosine shape of a true Fig-8. Nonetheless, this still has the makings of a
nifty cheap S for M/S. Already tried that, Eugene?

TDK's pen _IS_ solvent based. Just take a whiff. If you are concerned
about possible solvent leaching I would avoid using this pen.
>From the PCP list there is definite evidence that certain materials and
substances can damage CDs. There have been several cases noted of Post-It
note glue seriously damaging the dye layer after a period of days. As far
as I know nobody has actually documented that solvent based pens can damage
CD-Rs but lots of other substances have.
If you are concerned about data security the only safe method remains
writing in the center ring. Personally I use the TDK pens (because they
work well) to write only in the center ring.

If you are describing a digital to digital copy, a true digital copy
does not allow any levels adjustment during the copying process. That
would be true for any S/PDIF, AES protocol connection. You don't have to
watch levels, and you get an exact copy of the original.
There is an exception to this "fixed levels" rule. Samplitude 2496 and
Red-Roaster have a real-time mixer which allows you to adjust levels of
the digital output and write it to a file or pass it through. I am not
aware of any other software that does this. You have access to plug-ins,
eq, compression, limiting, etc also. Personally, though, I like to
exercise a greater degree of control over the whole thing. I will get a
copy of the file onto the hard drive, then do any digital augmentation
afterwards.

I have 10 tickets all pavilion to the First American Music Center. 6 section
105 row DD and 4 tickets section 203 row SS. And I have 4 tickets to Bonner
Springs in the pavilion. I am looking for tapers tickets or pavilion tickets
so I can get a patch easier to the E Centre through Indiana minus Oswego and
Toronto. I will patch anyone who sends me a tapers ticket for any show
between E Centre and Indiana. My rig is Nak CM 300 with shotguns and
cardiods>MX100 ( Nak Mixer )> SBM-1>D100. Hope I can make someone as happy as
they can make me. If anyone will be at The All Good Festival in Brandywine
State Park on 5/21-22 we can arrange a trade there. Thanks again for the BW.

Date: Sun, 16 May 1999 14:16:25 +0300
Bevis Frond went to play in my town (Firenze, Italy) last 9th April.
They had to play at 9.30 pm. but for due highway was closed for an incident
, they arrived late and concert begun after midnight and finished at 2,30
am.
Introducing by a young group (The Alchemysts, a name worth to be checked:
they play for about 40 minutes an interesting mixture of pysch-punk-spacey
rock in a Hawkind style), BEVIS FROND set was really amazing, apart for two
tracks I didn't like much (quite melodic hard rock in late 80's Bad Company
style), but rest was excellent, with old fashioned hard psychedelic rock
blues (a mixture of heroes like Paul Kossoff, Rory Gallagher,
Hawkwind,Man,Hendrix, you know what it means, right?)
Venue was a sorta of huge hangar ,where live hippies and homeless, with a
couple of dogs (!!) barking during two tracks of Bevis Frond (you had to see
face of Nick Salomon playing his solos during this dog's battle )
Before concert I was talking for a while w/Nick, I bought their T-shirt, I
took some poster (they signed one for me) and i went fob with my D8 to tape
concert .
Now begun my adventure: I left inside my D8 the 4 batteries I used for only
90minutes one month before (believin' they could have other 4 hrs of
life....).
I didn't tape the opening act, wait for Bevis Frond: well, batteries died
after ten second of first Bevis song!
I was so angry against myself ( I LEARN THIS LESSON for the future!) , and
I was goin' away.
Luckly I asked to the guy at mixer, and he promised he'll gave a VHS of
concert.
So I was quieter and I stayed till the end watching the rest of B.F set
Since about one month , finally I've tape on hand. It's a cheap VHS, but
who care, I can have my dat and memories will be save!
Crowds: 200-300
4/10/99 The ALCHEMYSTS, Csa, Firenze, Italy 40m SDB>VHS>D A- (first song
fade in)
4/10/99 BEVIS FROND , Csa, Firenze, Italy SDB>VHS>D A- (I'm listening
just now, If remember was 90minutes set)
I'll consider only one person to trade with, (with D>D, and D>A) , who can
spread tape to other guys , beginning a kind of fast tree.
Send your list and I'll choice one of you.
Then I'll tell his name, so other guys can contact him

Pete is correct when he says it is better to adjust volume after the data is
captured, but once after capturing some audio, I noticed my levels were lower
than the original DAT source. Turns out, my recording level was turned down
in Windows, so I had to turn it back up.
Assuming this is close to the same setup I have (DAT>SPDIF-In>CoolEdit),
one should just be able to double click on the little speaker in the tray at
the bottom right of the screen which will bring up your play control options.
From there, click on Options, then Properties, then choose "Adjust Volume
for Recording" , then OK. You should see your SPDIF recording volume control
and make the necessary adjustments.
Please correct me if I'm misunderstanding the question, but this seems to be
the way to go about this.

When I bought my Sony PCM 2600 (from an authorized Sony Dealer) they
ADVERTISED that the 4 Direct Drive Motor was capable of handling 90M tapes
without any fear of wearing out the motor. If they don't make 90M DAT tapes
then I guess he was talking about DDS. Assuming that I do use DDS tapes, do
you think this would void my Warranty?

and this opportunity may not present itself ever again. Please go tape
this! I haven't been able to get a reply on taping conditions so

ticket price maybe we can work something out. I'd love to get tapers for

Please let me know if you are going to tape them.
