I can't comment on the other decks, but I own a DA-302 and love it. For making
DAT
clones, it is truly a one button operation. You just load up the tapes, hit the
button, it rewinds one or both tapes if needed and then makes an exact digital
copy, subcodes, and all. I also like the remote tremendously. I can let the deck
sit in my rack and punch the commands into the remote on the desk of my DAW with
the greatest convenience. This is my first TASCAM product and I will gladly buy
others. No more Panasonics, my SV3700 died a VERY premature death!
One of the reviews I read on the DA-302 said the well doors could be removed for
easy head cleaning, but did not say how to do that. Anybody know how to safely
do
this?

Hi all,
Got my mail order back and Got tapers to great woods, alpine and creeks both
nights. I have 3 tapers for mass and 2 for the rest. I will be going w/ a
friend who has no clue about taping, and won't want to sit in tapers at mass
for sure. I will be bringing in my MD or possibly a dap1 + mic (Audio
technica stereo mic?) +stand. since I know lots of folks go shut out of
tapers, and I don't have the best equipt. I'd like to work out a patch, have
my friend bring your gear in, etc so someone can enjoy these shows in tapers
section.
Also, What do you think of the AT mic>DAP1....is the unbalanced line too long
to run 15' and still sound good on my MD or the DAP1.....what other mics in
its price range could I run with a balanced line? Do I have to run a preamp
if I use an unbalanced mic, or is the DAP1's preamp good enough?
Reply to tapers inquiriy privately!! serious inquiries only....
mic question can be posted to the list
thanks

Im curious about the lists opinion on the best new home deck and portable
DAT players and recorders. With the home decks, I was wondering which
companies make the best single and double deck player/recorders. For
portables, I was curious what people think about the newest recorders out
there, in terms of ease of use, quality , etc. Im thinking about getting a
new deck and a portable, but before I do Id like to look at a couple of
different components from different manufacturers.

Has anyony on this list tried this piece of equiptment made be Etymotic
Research?
I tried to master a matrix recording last weekend and could not hear
anything thru my headphones. The ER-4's block out virtually all external
background noise and cost over $200. Too bad that like underwear, they are
non returnable.
Also if someone has any experience with matrix recordings, I would love to
get some tips. I tried two times in different size clubs. I got some echo
in the larger club and some very good results in the smaller club. What is
the magic distance from the stage that a matrix will still work without a
delay device?
Any suggestions on a good 4 channel mixer with (or without) delay?

don't block nearly all background noise, but they do block a lot more

Date: Wed, 19 May 1999 15:41:04 EDT
Hola,
Here is the status and an update of the tree. I have 45 out of the 60 dats
done to go out to the top branches. However, there is a small problem.
There were several people left of the strucute for some reason or another,
and there were some people listed twice, creating some problems. I have
taken care of some of those problems. Now, there are some that got in
contact with me, about their parent, or I have emailed some people asking to
take on new kids or telling you that you have a new parent. Now here is were
the problem comes in. I had just moved over the weekend, and things on my
side are a little disorganized. If you are waiting for a response from me on
some matter regarding this tree, please re-email me, and we can work this
out. I promise all you sign-up will get the music. The tree will move
regardless beacuse I have been in constant contact with the top branches and
they are all wonderful and reliable.
So, thank you for your understanding, and if you feel that I have
left you with loose ends, please feel 100 percent free to email me.
Thanks,
Jordan

If you do have it, either his copy or a better one (or anycopy with a
known analog generation) I would appreciate it.

Reply-to: gdavis@loop.com
Date: Wed, 19 May 1999 13:52:02 -0700
I've been debating whether to post this here, because it has zero
DAT content. But I think it's one of the most important pieces of
"underground literature" of recent years, and as tapers, I believe we
are all outsiders. (The 'gears and sheep' this note refers to are the
millions who rush out to buy the latest rap CD, even though they
didn't like rap music a few years back...) There is also some
question as to the authenticity of this note (it's allegedly been
verified by "the media"). All I can say on this, after reading it
many, many times, is that it was certainly written by someone who
was totally inside Harris's head, and that person was most likely
Eric Harris himself.
I hope you will find it as illuminating as I have.

Eric Harris's Suicide Note
By now it's over. If you are reading this my mission is complete. I
have finished revolutionizing the neoeuphoric infliction of my internal
terror. Your children who have ridaculed me, who have chosen not
to accept me, who have treated me like I am not worth their time
are dead. THEY ARE FUCKING DEAD. Surely you will try to
blame it on the clothes I wear, the music I listen to, or the way I
choose to present myself -- but no. Do not hide behind my
choices. You need to face the fact that this comes as a result of
YOUR CHOICES. Parents and Teachers, YOU FUCKED UP. You
have taught these kids to be gears and sheep. To think and act like
those who came before them, to not accept what is different. YOU
ARE IN THE WRONG. I may have taken their lives and my own --
but it was your doing. Teachers, Parents, LET THIS MASSACRE
BE ON YOUR SHOULDERS UNTIL THE DAY YOU DIE. Am I
insane? Maybe. Is it my fault? No. I did not choose this life, but I
have indeed chosen to exit it. You may think the horror ends with
the bullet in my head -- but you wouldn't be so lucky. All that I can
leave you with to decipher what more extensive death is to come is
``12Skizto.'' You have until April 26th. Goodbye.
Eric Harris, April 19th.
