Date: Wed, 19 May 1999 16:52:32 -0700 (PDT)
Hey there folks. I am contemplating investing in a pair of cardoid AT
853's and I wanted to hear what the good word on these are, versus the
AT822, etc... I would get it with the bass roll-off power supply, and
would be running it into my ancient D3.
A worthy investment? I will be recording both large arenas-Phish, and
smaller clubs- local acts here in Chicago. How do they sound, bottom
line? Opinions? E-mail me privately or to the whole community if you
think it will help.
If you can think of another mic better in the same price range... let
me know.
Also, if there are any uni-deckers here in Chicago that want to get
together and spin off tapes, drop a line to me and we'll see what we
can do.
Take care
and
thanks
Brian

It depends on what kernel you're running that will have support for USB
ports. AFAIK, starting with kernels 2.2.8 and 2.3.2 did the kernels have
*some* USB support. If you're running a 2.0.x kernel, you're out of luck.
Even if you were running a 2.2.x or 2.3.x kernel, you're still out of luck
because Opcode hasn't (and probably won't for a long time or never will)
come up with software drivers for Linux, since USB support in Linux is in
the infancy (and unstable) stage.
Hope this helps,
David

You are working on the presumption that you can even find one of these at a Sony
outlet. I stopped by the one in Tracy, CA a couple of weeks ago and they said
that they hadn't had a D8 for 6 months..... Call ahead before making a trip.

Sure, I'll gladly give you tapes knowing that your purpose in obtaining
them is to receive pirated software worth somewhere between $150-$5000
depending on the exact package you're receiving.

Looking for someone who has a parts list or service manual for the D100?
I loaned my D100 to my brother, and, I'm not sure how, but he broke the
grey plastic piece that is part of the battery door. I got it off of
the door and tried to superglue it, but I botched the repair. So, I'm
looking for the Sony part number so that I can order it.
Thanks a lot for any help.

Subject: Clicking sound through headphones
Date: Thu, 20 May 1999 10:14:59 -0400 (EDT)
I recently added an SBM-1 to my rig, and while taping the last two
concerts at the local high school I noticed a clicking sound in the
headphones. The period was about 1 second, and would get louder as the
performance got louder, and dissappear during ambient audience noise. I
have my mic preamp going into the line in of the SBM-1 and recording at
the 44.1KHtz sampling rate. The SBM-1 is connected to my D7 via the
digital input. The clicking sound is not evident when I plug the
headphones into the SMB-1 headphone jack, only the headphone jack of the
D7, and is not affected by the volume setting on the D7. I have not had
the chance to check the tapes yet to see if the click is on the recordings
also. Has anyone else experienced this?????
Also, the headphone jack of the SBM-1 seems "loose", I have to hold the
plug to keep the connection secure. I am using Grado model 60 headphones,
and the cord is relatively heavy compared to the run of the mill "walkman"
style headphones. I have not had any problem with the connection going
into my D7. Again, anyone else experience this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi All,
Our Schoeps m222 tube mics and Mk. 4V capsules arrived just in time for last
night's Trey show in Denver. With the assistance of James Scott, we ran
this system front and center of the taping section.
It looks like we'll see quite a few gems come out of Denver's great new
venue.
While the show didn't feature all the speculated guests and hype that many
had hoped for as our new Fillmore Auditorium opened, it was a fine show
indeed. I'll spare you all from my review but in it's place, I will happily
send a complimentary copy on a 3 hour DAT to the first 10 people who promise
to offer it up to at least five more people each. Anyone willing to run
digital>analog will be greatly appreciated. Of course, anyone with
experience who is willing to administer a tree will also get a copy.
Watch for many more 222/4v tapes throughout the summer. We'll keep those
tubes warm.
Enjoy,
Marc
