Available where?? The Ni-MH batteries listed on the Toshiba and Sanyo web
pages aren't available for sale there. A little while back a couple vendors
here were talking about sourcing a AA Ni-MH battery somewhere in the 1500mAH
range but so far nothing. Seeing it on a web page and actually being able
to buy it (in quantities <1000) are two different things. If you've bought
them somewhere please send a pointer.
Thanks

Hi all,
anyone else going to be at the Greg Allman concert at Ventura Theatre this
week? I'll be there with Neumann KM-140's->Beyer MV-100->DA-P1.
Is Greg still allowing taping on the solo tours? I think the BTAT list
mentioned it would be on a tour by tour basis. Anyone taped him recently?
This tour?
Thanks a bunch, :)

The PCM-7040 and PD-4 are really a whole nother league. You don't mention
what you would do with such decks, but they quite possibly have feaures that
you don't need. From the Market Posting:
[9/28/97] Sony PCM-7040. Replaces PCM-7030 and PCM-7050.
SMPTE/EBU/FILM time code. 9-pin serial control port. Varispeed
record & playback. RS-232 control port. Weighs 10 kg. 424(w) x
132(h) x 360(d). Auto start-id with settable level. Automatic
time-stampting. 37-pin parallel remote can eject. ISR support.
Memory start. External Synchronization, chase synchronization. Read
After Write and Read-Modify-Write capabilities with electronic
crossfade. Level adjustment on digital input, -infinity to +12dB.
XLR analog IO, -4dBs, AES/EBU digital io. (0 dBs = .775V)
(BTW, the 7030 retail was $8000, the 7050 ~$11,000, as a price comparison)
[3/24/98] Fostex PD-4 portable. $7000 list, $5176 Dealer Cost, $5400
[Dat Store 3/22/98], $5450 [Full Compass 3/22/98], $5500 [Location
Sound 3/22/98], $5600 Coffey Sound [3/22/98], $5950 [TAI Audio
3/22/98], 3-channel mixer, all inputs pannable. One digital input,
AES/EBU or S/PDIF. SMPTE in and out. Same size as PD-2, twice the
battery life, half the weight. Less software functions than PD-2.
4-heads. Samples at 44.1, 48, 48.048, 6 different frame rates.
Now, the PCM-R700 is a little more normal of a machine. It would probably
do well along side your DA-30mkII.
[12/28/97] Sony PCM-R700. 4-head version of PCM-R500. $1594 [Dat
Store, demo, 8/12/98], $1694 [Dat Store], $1775 [Masterpiece Audio,
incl. shipping]

O.K.. folks Bogen questions again.. I scrounged up the post I made here about a year ago..
It is below...
Let me also say that I agree with the last poster that you can only get two of the three listed needs.
(Height, portability, sturdiness)
I also found that the more sections (smaller it folds two) the less stable.
Less sections is more stability but folds less.
I two use counter weights to help. I use those weighted jogging ankle cuffs at the bottom.
also I ended up finding a fantastic selection/price from ProCam in VT
Pro-Cam.com...
If the person who spoke with me last year about ProCam could reach me
again I would appreciate it.. You mentioned another brand you got
that was more compact then the 3373... I would like to know what that was again.

Thanx for the tip on the Bogen stands!
I just got back from the local camera shop and purchased the perfect
stand. I thought I would share what I found, since many are asking questions.
First some general observations, then I will list the models available.
First we are talking there light stand series. These stands are VERY
light weight and portable, at the expense of stability. They are a
little wobbly, but good enough. If portability isn't a concern
consider there heavy duty pro line.
Note most stands are available in Aluminum and Black. Black is a few $$$
more. I will list model numbers as xxxx/xxxx where this is
aluminum/black. All prices listed are retail, my local shop averaged 20%
less for selling price (example 3373 lists 72.00 was $58 at local store).
All stands require two adapters to make them fit a microphone.
You need the model 3103 ($3.95) 1/4-20 to 3/8 adapter
then the model 3366 ($6.50) 3/8 to 5/8 mic thread adapter.
I found the 3373 to be a little too wobbly and too short (is 6' not 8' as
stated b4). In general the more sections and the smaller folded length
the more wobbly.
I settled on the 3372.
Here are the selections from 6 to 11 feet (there full range is from 1.5
to 17 feet with booms beyond that).

Hi
Just rec'd a SBM1 today. A few questions for any SX-M2 -> SBM1
users...
1) What do you use to patch the SX-M2 into the SBM1? What provides the best
sound?
(i.e. some XLR -> coax, mini -> coax, mini -> mini, etc?)
2) When using the Sonosax to amplify the sound, what volume setting do you use
on the SBM1 (and D8 - I would assume around 4 or 5 for the D8)
3) I am thinking of finding some 90 degree attachments for my mic's XLR cables
and then possible a 90 degree attachment for the SBM1 and D8 also, do these add
noise).
4) Are there any tips or pitfalls of which I should be wary with this
combination?
Thanks, and...
Take Care,
Delano
