From: Delano <bluesky@mindspring.com> Subject: XLR->RCA (+4) line output - is this a problem for SX-M2->SBM1? Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 12:38:43 -0400 Hi Yesterday I had asked about the best cables to connect the Sonosax SX-M2 to the Sony SBM1(>D8). Most of the responses recommended XLR->RCA, however I have been told by a reliable source that "the XLR outs are professional level +4 output. This level into the SBM1 has potential for distortion." Can this (+4) level output be countered with the volume on the SBM1? Is there a (-4) unit which can be used to dampen the (+4) of the XLR output? Keep in mind that I want the best sound possible from my rig (MtG 2000->SX-M2->SBM1->D8). Any info on specific cables and solutions are appreciated. From: Brian Hammersley <brinahamm@yahoo.com> Subject: looking to buy a used home DAT deck... Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 10:06:02 -0700 (PDT) Hey there. I am getting a meager tax return and really need to pick up another deck. It will be running with a D3, so it must have it's SCMS defeated, or at least ignore it. It will be the recording deck. If you have any info, or an extra deck sitting around, please e-mail me privately. Thanks for the bandwidth. Brian _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Another opinion: At the risk of offending Len, I've had much better luck with coresounds in acoustic music than electric. Electric shows seem to be shifted to the low end. However, I have not tried the mics with the bass rolloff. Maybe Len can address this. _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. From: Greg Bossong <gboss@voicenet.com> Subject: nusance? well, yes Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 16:55:16 -0400 Everyone on the list is sent the list of bands that allow taping on a pretty regular basis. It is not necessary to re-send the entire thing to the list, especially considering that it is rather large.
From: Chad Klausing <chadk@hal.com> Subject: Mic Pre-amps Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 14:14:44 -0700 Hey all- I'm in the market for a pre-amp, and figured that I'd ask around and see what opinions I can collect before making a purchase. The final rig will be: Neumann KM184's->???->DAP1 I've talked with a few people already, and most of them said Sonosax without hesitation. There don't seem to be a whole lot of choices out there: Aerco, BeyerDynamic, and Sonosax seem to be what I'll choose between (Lunatec is just a bit more than I really want to spend). So, if any of you would be willing to share your thoughts (preferably those that have used more than one of the above mentioned), I would greatly appreciate it:) Thanks- chad
From: coleman <designer@fivefingerdesign.com> Subject: DA-P1 error code action? Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 15:15:54 -0700 say, can't find this in my manual...when i hit FF and then play when i want to play, i get a message in the display that looks like "e cut", then the tape stops. and i can push play again and everything seems to be just fine. but who knows what it is telling me since "format" doesn't really look like "format"...what is going on? Everything seems to be working just fine, otherwise, but would like to know if this is a precursor to a larger problem... danks fa da time, -c-c-

From: Tflood@aol.com Subject: Potential Items of Interest for DATHeads/Computer Geeks Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 18:20:03 EDT Hey all, Ok, first, the disclaimer...i have no association with either of these companies...i merely came across these products which interested me, and i felt they would probably interest a whole lot of you. anyway, they're both standalone-type CD-Rs which are pretty flexible, and particularly attractive to those who either aren't into big-time computer tinkering, or have a sucky computer (like myself), where getting a CD-R means upgrading your entire system... soooo...take a look: http://www.dupeit.com/ this one has both computer standalone burners (which can still be connected to a computer if you want) and true standalones, but, unlike, say the HHB, it can burn at read at 8x and burn at 4x. http://www.octave.com/cdduplicators/cddupe.html this one will make you a standalone system using a Teac CD-ROM and your choice of about 5 different CD-Rs, including the now-famous Plextor 8/20. Like the 1st one above, this can be connected to your computer if you want to. take it easy steve
From: VAHCBFC@aol.com Subject: Apologies Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 18:20:22 EDT Well, do to the 20 some odd letters i got, all of which basically saying im a moron, i thought i would apologize to the list for takin up your space. Apparently, a kind gesture is pointless unless it doesnt take up your time... to those of you who complained about what a large file it was... 4 seconds of your time , and 120 k is almost like driving across the united states now isnt it? Christ, a mistake is a mistake... no need to persiflage a guy to death... and mail him all your little diatrons. Well, what a kind bunch of folk we have on this list... thanks for sending all the hate mail ladies and fellas! Most profound apologies to Kurt Kemp, Didnt mean to jump in front of him and resend that. take it easy all... chris
From: Mehool Patel <mehool@mvpdg.com> Subject: Ozric Tentacles tour update Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 18:41:25 -0400 The U.S. Ozric Tentacles Tour has been rescheduled and these dates just appeared on the website! I believe a couple of other DAT-Heads are planning on taping some show(s) as I will be. These guys are worth checking out -- more info can be found at: http://www.execpc.com/~mwerning Please keep in touch if you plan on taping any of these shows. They have not toured the U.S. since 1994 (with the exception of one show at the Fillmore in San Francisco last June). The band is pro-taping and generally allows soundboard patches, but it may be nice to bring along mics just in case. :-) I'm personally planning on Boston, and hopefully New York (one or both nights). Ozric Tentacles: July 1999 USA Tour Dates July 7 Boston, MA Paradise Rock Club (617-562-8801) July 8 Philidelphia,PA Theatre of Living Arts (215-922-1011) July 9 New York, NY Wetlands Preserve (212-966-4225) July 10 New York, NY Wetlands Preserve July 11 West Springfield, VA Jaxx Niteclub (703-569-5940) July 13 Atlanta, Ga The Variety Playhouse (414-524-7354) July 14 Winston-Salem Ziggy's (336-748-0810) July 15 Towson, MD Recher Theater (410-547-7598) July 16 Cleveland, OH Odeon Concert Club (216-574-6328) July 17 Detroit, MI The Majestic (313-833-9700) July 18 Chicago, IL House Of Blues (312-923-2011) July 20 Milwaukee, WI Shank Hall (414-276-7288) July 21 Minneapolis, MN First Avenue (612-338-8407) July 22 St Louis, MO Mississippi Nights (314-664-1015) July 24 Boulder, CO Fox Theatre (303-447-0095) July 25 Boulder, CO Fox Theatre July 27 Ventura, CA Ventura Theatre (805-965-2231) july 29 West Hollywood , CA House Of Blues (323-848-5700) July 30 Santa Cruz, CA Palookaville (831-454-0600) Here is a brief paragraph that does a better job at dexribing Ozric Tentacles than I can... =========================== It's Cosmic, Man art-rock revivalists Ozric Tentacles Using the word cosmic to describe anything other then the solar system, may seem like a bit of a throwback. That said, however, the simple truth is there's simply no better word to describe the music of Britain's spacy, underground art-rock revivalists OT. The history on these guys dates back to the early 80's when band members met at one of the now famous stonehenge free festivals the same UK events out of which rose bands as Pink Floyd, the Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Jethro Tull. When the "authorities" brought an end to the festivals in 1985, bands like OT(not that anyone is quite like these guys) began circulating on the underground scene. Having absorbed influences from psychadelic, world punk and just about every other genre they can work into their far out sound, Ozric just keeps evolving. Their improvisational style has led them to be embraced by Phish-heads stateside, and King Crimson fans throughout the world. No doubt about it, the Ozric Tentacles alter consciousness. =========================== Mehool Patel mehool@mvpdg.com

People in the audience who scream and sing prevent those near them from hearing the music. All they deserve to get is tapes of them screaming, recorded on a Fisher-Price recorder with its built-in microphone. Seth
