Gary you wear two hats one for soundboard work and one for taping. Matrix
has a meaning to both worlds. Just put on you taper hat when talking about
tapers matrix. It is much easier to say than sbd+aud mix. A gaffer in the
movie industry is completely different than someone on a fishing boat. Both
groups understand the term appropriately.

Subject: DATport w/ 7-pin I/O???

Anyone had experience with Coresound's 7-pin-to-Coax I/O cable and the
OpCode Datport?? I've had plenty of success with the input to the
computer... However, I need to clone a DAT (SCMS is no biggie) so I input
the entire DAT (99 mins unfortunatly) only to find out that I'm not able to
through the DATPort's outport -> Coresounds 7-pin-to-coax I/O -> D7... My
D7 says "No Input"... PErhaps the I/O cable does work both ways and i'm
doing something wrong? I made sure that Soundforge has it's playback as
"USB Device 2" (Aka DATport), and that my playback device as set as "USB
Device 2" in my windows '98 Multimedia control panel. Anything else I
should do with the DATport or it's setup or something along those lines?
Or perhaps this has to do with the active vs. inactive subject? I'm still
fairly new to DAT technology so i don't entirely understand it.. Do I need
an active cable to do digital output from the Datport to the D7? Any
answers are appreciated! Thanks

Greetings friends,
I need some advice and cannot seem to get it from Denon... I have
owned an old CD player my brother picked up for me in HongKong back in 1986.
The unit was known as the DCD-1500. Excellant for the time. It had given
me flawless service. I had been requested to record a demo CD of my own
personal songs onto a DAT for a friend in the industry. When I looked at
the back of the machine it has two sets of output RCA connectors (variable)
and (fixed). Also about 4" toward the right of the RCA female plugs is
one cicular female plug (8 pin) identified as SUB CODE OUT.
When I record directly out of the RCA fixed output, I believe I am only
getting a analog feed since it will not play into the digital input my
Tascam DA-302 DAT recorder. Only the analog input will allow me to record
from the CD player. Finally, when I do record into the analog input, I get
a slight layer of hiss indicating a analog signal.
Can anyone offer me any assistance and /or recommendations as how to
get a digital feed off the CD player and into the Tascam DA-302 dat deck?
Although I presently have King Salmon on my mind ( the Kenai River's first
run is on), I would appreciate any assistance you may offer. Sincerely,

The remaining time could be several minutes off. However, if the deck reports
one hour (!)less than it should be, it seems to me that the deck doesn't
sense the thin tape indicator. There are a large number of decks that
do not support thin tapes correctly. Usually, that's nothing to worry
about.

It has been found that high speed burns 6x-8x have a higher chance of
failing in
some cd players. Does that mean lesss quality? Probably not, but it's

Can you elaborate on this method you use? Are you somehow getting a split
off the mic lines going into the main sound board. How many times do you

I apologize since this is a newbie question, and probably has been rehashed
over and over on this ng, so maybe just reply personally, but can anyone tell
me how they clean the heads on a Tascam DA-20 mkii.
I have read all the FAQ's and posted info, but am still reluctant to take
that abrasive dry head cleaner to my heads, I need some reassurance. If you
can please let me know what you do, or not do......it would help me a lot.

Pavillion, I've got a 6th row and 12th row ticket available. I heard this
place is a pain in the ass as far as taping goes and they won't let you tape
from the lower levels of the pavillion, is this true? If so I'd assume you'd
need a taper ticket correct? I'd be looking for a patch, I'm running a D-8 w/

Correct. You can get a compact, single channel, portable phantom power
box from Mike Denecke and a dual channel from Rolls.

I'm going to be recording my first show this coming weekend with these
mics, and I have a few questions about them. First, do they have a
tendency to overload either the line input or the mic input on a D8?
Second, how long do the batteries last, either with alkaliens or
lithiums? Also, do I really need shock mounts with these mics? The
capsule rests on an internal shock mount, so I'm wondering if it's
something that I really need, or I could perhaps hold off on buying.
FWIW, I'll be taping almost exclusively in small clubs and theaters,
almost never in an arena setting.

There's also a dual-channel power supply (runs on one 9v battery) from
Neumann.

I'd be very surprised at any mics overloading the line input. (How
loud will the show be? If you're taping a jet engine from the inside,
I'd be a lot less surprised.)

I've found the likelihood of someone banging into your micstand is
greatest in small clubs (depending on the setup, of course). You
might want to test it at home: set the stuff up without shockmounts,
and hit the stand; see if that produces anything from the mics. (If
it does, repeat the test with shockmounts to see if/how much they
help.)

Hello Everyone :)
Taped Neil Young last night in New Orleans (5/30/1999) at The Saenger Theater.
Was about 25 rows back in row U, orchestra, dead center. Used CSB/D8, with
the non-rolloff box. Show ran 116m.
Tape came rather nicely. Sound is incredibly clear and the crowd was
extremely
quiet during the actual songs, for the most part. Neil peaks at -12, and
the crowd
gets all the way up to 0, but nothing ever really distorts. (Minus a few
whistles
between songs late in the second set.)
Have a wide variety of trade interests. Top of the list includes 99 Rolling
Stones & Smashing Pumpkins shows, plus maybe a little more Neil.

An attenuator cable is designed to cut the signal going through it by a
specific amount. Its necessary when matching between pro-level (e.g.,
soundboard) outputs and consumer-level inputs, or when trying to feed a
mic input with a very hot signal (as when the sound level is very loud).
The cable should be designed to present the same impedance at its input
that is at its output. Ours are designed to match the impedance used by
the mic inputs on most DAT and MD recorders.

A note: B&K (Bruel & Kjaer) is now DPA (Danish Pro Audio).
Don't forget the DPA4022 and the DPA4023. The DPA4023 would likely be the
compact cardioid of choice for tapers here.
