Feel free to think what you want. I have more than 2,000 dats, 80% of them Maxell hs/4, and simply I think they are ( with Kao gold and Sony) , the best affordable (as quality, as they are build, as sound) dat tape in the market On the contrary I don't like Maxell audio tape (180m.): I got several problems with it I think that dat decks are too sensitive: some model accept some particular tape, some other hate it. My old sony d3 liked Ampex dds, and my old Pioneer D5 got glitches from same tape and sometime could also eat it !! So question can be: what's best tape for my deck? You can't generalize.
From: MoMo <gironnay@club-internet.fr> Subject: Recording in Paris Date: Sat, 5 Jun 1999 13:00:06 +0100 As new in this activity, I'm looking for some french experienced tapers who can give some hints and tips in recording for the major R&R venues in Paris: Bercy, La Cigale, Bataclan, Elysee .... From: George Wang <gwwang@us.oracle.com> Subject: re:Airplanes/Mike stands? Date: Sat, 05 Jun 1999 07:36:23 -0400 I did this recently. Just put the mic stand behind the last row of first class. Typically, people put suit bags back there after all the overhead space is filled up, but there should be enough room to spare for your stand. -- The statements and opinions expressed here are my own and do not necessarily represent those of Oracle Corporation.
From: Aaron Westendorf <westea@rpi.edu> Subject: Blank problem with D8's Date: Sat, 05 Jun 1999 08:51:46 -0400 I know this has been discussed before, and now I'm getting the "blank" problem with my D8, when fast forwarding tapes, it'll stop and flash "blank." What I'm wondering is, for those that have had this problem, what was the cause, and was it a sign of impending death, or just a sign of wear that you were able to live with for a good amount of time. Also, I'd be interested in hearing how long D8 users have been able to go on a set of heads. thanks, Aaron -- ==================================================== Aaron J. Of course, I'd be happy to retract my statement if he ever made good on our trade from a year ago ... and yes, I did politely remind him "several" times. If you need more proof of his rip-off antics, talk to Dan Young of the Turtle Tree. >> yes, I can attest to that statement, he ripped off several people on my trees as well as some of my friends. He has never made good to any of them and tried to point the blame at Allan Chen (saying that he put him up to it). I know many of you know Allan, he's very respected in my book, I think it was pretty low. I will pass along his address to the list as soon as I can rummage it up. I hate posting about bad traders, but this guy is the worst I have ever come across. He has a partner too, I'll forward his address as well Daniel

From: "Kenji Yamaguchi" <mjkenji@earthlink.net> Subject: DATport user Date: Sat, 05 Jun 1999 12:39:40 -1000 I have one question to those DATport users (if there are any). It seems that this nice box won't do real time sample rate conversion. how do you guys handle the resampling, say 48KHz to 44KHz for CD burning purpose? Software? if so how much time does it take to do software resampling? or are there any unit that I may be able to connect with DATport to resample (hardware)? is it worth getting DATport or other similar unit from Opcode? any help would be apprecited. Peace Kenji

From: "JZ" <jzamudio@worldnet.att.net> Subject: ISO London taper 4 Stones "surprise gig" 6/8 Reply-To: <jzamudio@worldnet.att.net> Date: Sat, 5 Jun 1999 01:27:19 -0500 Hi folks: This is a heads up for anyone in the London, England area. The Rolling Stones are "confirmed" to be playing a "surprise club gig" at Shepherd's Bush Empire on Tuesday, June 8th. Tickets (reportedly 10 pounds) are alleged to go on sale Monday (6/7) morning for the Tuesday show. From "The Mirror": "REMEMBER to tune into Chris Evans on Virgin Radio on Monday morning to find out how to get tickets for the Rolling Stones concert at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire on Tuesday." I don't know the frequency, but imagine it's known to Londoners. Good luck to those who may attempt to secure tickets and tape. If you luck out, I'd appreciate a trade. José

You were set up in the aisle between section 1 & 2, right up front, I was wearing a baseball cap and asked you about your stand and mics. Can't remember your name and we didn't swap e-mails. Please if you read this I'd appreciate it if you dropped me a line. (Yes I taped as well.)
