From: "Craig Hoffman" <Craig.Hoffman@disney.com> Subject: D-8 for sale Date: Mon, 7 Jun 1999 08:54:28 -0700 The buyer for my D-8 seems to have evaporated into thin air, so it is up for sale again. $350 in top shape. Probably about 30 hours of use- only used for recording my wife's classical music performances and rehearsals. It looks brand new and works perfect. Reason for selling: bought new D-100 to get limiter and quieter preamp. Thanks, Craig Hoffman Craig.Hoffman@disney.com

From: Seth Breidbart <sethb@panix.com> Subject: Re: SCMS Question Date: Mon, 7 Jun 1999 14:09:05 -0400 (EDT) > I have a Sony D-8, and I was told by someone that a master tape recorded > with this machine will have SCMS set to 10. He was wrong. A tape recorded from analog on a consumer deck (such as the D-8) will have SCMS 11 (which means "one more copy"). > I clone from my d-8 to a Sony PCM-R300, but I was > wondering if there is a way to reset the SCMS with this setup so that i'll > be able to trade tapes with SCMS of 00 not 11 because I know some peole can > not defeat it. I don't think so; I believe the R300 is barely "semi-pro" wrt SCMS. In fact, I've been told that it copies 11 tapes to 10 tapes, so they can't be copied again. (The Panasonic sv-3700 copies 11 to 11, so at least one more generation can be made. A truly pro deck, like the Tascams, will copy anything to 00.) Seth

From: Jeff757844@aol.com Subject: R300 problems. Date: Mon, 7 Jun 1999 17:10:55 EDT I just got a new R300, and have had some problems. When i try to copy to 90m DAT's, it ends up crinkling up a few seconds of the tape, but alwas between 2s and 10s. If i go past the point, i can record without a problem. My question is, what is causing this, and how can i fix it? It only happens on 90m dats, 60's work fine. I've also tried both sony DGP's and maxell HS/4's. I'm hoping it doesn't need service, i just got i last monday. It's just annoying, as the absloute time just doesn't work. Thanks, Jeff Jeff757844@aol.com

Band - lineup changes Date: Mon, 07 Jun 1999 20:04:17 -0400 Hello everyone, I found this on the Allman Brother's web site today: http://www.allmanbrothersband.com/ "The Allman Brothers Band announces that after two successful years touring with the band, guitarist Jack Pearson has opted to return to his roots and concentrate on a career as a solo artist, song writer and session player." [enough of the bad news, now for the good news...] "Derek Trucks, a frequent guest of the Allman Brothers Band and fan-favorite, has been tapped to fill the open guitarist slot." See ya on the road this summer! blue skies, Scott

From: "Scott/ Deb McPherrin" <hippies@frontiernet.net> Subject: Millenium Tree Signup form: Date: Mon, 7 Jun 1999 21:03:48 -0500 hey y'all, before i pass this on, i would like to personally thank Seth Briedbart for graciously offering and providing the awesome seeds for the Dead 12/31/84 and the Moby Grape 12/31/67...thanks Seth!...you're the man... also kudos go out to Al Zeffer for the 12/31/77 seed, and his behind the scenes work on this project...thanks, much, Al!... more to the point: Glenn Gillis is a friend of mine, not really a DAT-Head, although he posesses DAT capability...and more in the CDR than DAT domain, however he is opening this one up to one and ALL!...happy to be a part of it...Analogs WILL be included!...;-)/ enjoy, y'all peace scott PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE MESSAGE BEFORE SIGNING UP! The great end of the milenium (well almost, anyway....) New Years Eve Tree is now taking sign-ups...read on Hey Now Boys & Girls! I have been waiting to make this announcement as I am still waiting on some shows & still looking for others. As of this writing, I seem to still need the following (ON DAT or CD-R, known sources, etc.): 12/31/66, 12/31/68 (I can dream can't I?), 12/31/80 (complet SBD!) If you can't burn CDs or make DATs, that is fine, sign-up as a CD-R leaf. We will take sign-ups for analogs, but why go for analog when a digital copy is available? I would like to keep this mostly in the CD-R realm, but DAT people are also more than welcome. I would prefer to get people to sign on for the entire run. It makes making the tree much easier. If there is a show that you don't want, just pass on it amongst the tree. If you are a branch and don't want a show, ask your parent to pass it on to your kids, or, better yet, make copies for your kids anyway.... I will be including some other similar bands (Not Phish though because there is just too much stuff out there for a Phish NYE inclussion) such as the Jefferson Airplane 12/31/67 show, the Moby Grape 12/31/67, Hot Tuna 12/31/69 possibly the 2 Who songs from 12/31/70 that were broadcast in England. BATCH 1 will be 12/31/69 (3 CDs) and 12/31/86 (3 CDs). I may throw in the Hot Tuna set from 12/31/69 Winterland Arena as filler. I also may expand this to include 12/31/75.... SIGN-UPS: E-mail me personally. We will need many people to be CD-R branches, and to make multiple copies. I also will need a few people to seed many copies to parts of the U.S. as regional heads, as well as a couple folks to do Outside U.S. seeds. I also need someone who is both computer literate and has an artistic bent to work with me on make downloadable covers from the site....I will make this worth the while for the person who does it. I intend to include everyone who signs up on the tree, so again, those of you who can do CD->CD transfers, so please be kind & volunteer to take on at least 3-5 kids..... INSTRUCTIONS: Reply to: deadhead@pcisys.net (and only this address!!!!) SUBJECT HEADING: "NYE Tree" than: Please include your state or, if outside U.S., country (i.e. MO, IN, FL, etc.) what you are signing up to be (i.e. CD-R Branch, CD-R Leaf, DAT branch, etc). So, here is an example of what the Subject heading should look like: NYE Tree CD-R Branch, CA ----OR---- NYE Tree CD-R LEAF, NY ----OR----- NYE Tree DAT Branch, IL Whatever applies to you In the body, please copy & paste the following: ========================cut here---------------------------------------------- FULL NAME: E-MAIL: CITY & STATE: CD-R Branches: Can you do DAE (Digital Audio Extraction)? Can you burn in DAO (Disc At Once)? How Many Leaves will you make copies for (# of CDs per batch will vary): What type of equipment do you use? CD-R Leaves: Can you make analog copies, and if so, how many? DAT Branches: Can you defeat SCMS? How Many Leaves can you take on? Can you make analog copies? DAT Leaves: Can you make analog copies and if so, how many? ==================================Cut Here---------------------------------- A huge thanks to Scott McPherrin for signing up to copy DAT to CD and for being my partner on this. Also Larry Millett for burning 12/31/69 & 12/31/71 to CD-R from DAT, John Cadwell for providing some of the shows on DAT and Bill Burton for the wonderful job he did on burning 12/31/81 to CD.
