Greetings,
Well, after amassing over 4200 hours of analog GD/JGB, I've finally
taken the plunge into the digital realm. I've got a few tapes from
friends who have graciously gotten me started. Don't have a whole heck
of a lot to offer for trade now, looking more for a kind soul(s) who
might be interested in spinning some shows for me for b&p. If you'd like
to check out my short, but sweet :-) list (9.17.72 aud!), drop me a
line. Thanks for the bandwidth.
Regards,

Subject: Broken Tape (how to Fix?)
Date: Tue, 8 Jun 1999 12:27:38 -0400
I recorded a show the other night and went to give a listen to the tape, I
loaded into the 3700 here at work but it would not load correctly and I
ended up with about 4 inches of tape hanging out of the shell. I wound the
tape back into the shell and tried to load it into the D-8, it would not
load, I opened the deck to find my tape stuck inside, I pulled it out and
broke the tape in half. I have both ends hanging out of the shell.
Can anyone recommend someone who may want to try to fix the tape for me
since I have no idea where to even begin.
For what it is worth the tape in question is a Sony 90M data cartridge.
Please email me at: sureck@wews.com <mailto:sureck@wews.com>
Thanks
Peace

Subject: Taping at the Warfield
Date: Tue, 08 Jun 1999 10:01:10 -0700 (PDT)
Fellow Tapers:
The taping policy at the Warfield in
general is that you can tape
as long as your stand is under 6 ft.
At the recent Phil and Friends shows
in April and June this policy was
taken even further. They chose
to put the taping section off center,
near the bar.
All previous shows I have been to there
had the taping section in the middle.
They also started using taper tickets
this time for people with complete
taping rigs(stands). People
who were patching didn't need a taper
ticket, and I am not sure that you needed
one for a mic stand either in reality.
The door guys weren't too concerned...
The problem is, that we go thru a lot
of trouble to get the tapes, and
they stick us off center.
It is nearly impossible to get a good
tape image, let alone
the huge amount of talking at the
bar(near the taper section).
The big problem is that the BGP
people running the show don't
want to block the view for
the VIPs at the tables, so
they "comprimise" and stick
us by the bar to the side
(also under the balcony)
Many people then resort to taping
from the drink rail and clamp thier
mics onto the rail. For those
who haven't been there...the drink
rail is behind the orchestra pit,
and a few feet higher than the main
floor(orchestra pit).
GDTSTOO has offered to talk to
BGP on our behalf and try to
improve the situation for everyone.
I think the best compromise would be
to move the taper section to the
back of the orchestra pit, just in
front of the drink rail.
Then, tapers could run up to 8 feet
high, and not affect the people on
the drink rail. The VIPs at tables
won't even know people are taping,
and then the noise level around the drink
rail would be lower too!
GDTSTOO knows we are upset over the
taping policy and that is why I am writing
this....please send your comments to them
so they can take our case to BGP.
Ruby at GDTSTOO asked that we speak our
mind firmly and with passion, but not to
yell too much or the BGP ears will close up.
Please politly state your feelings on this
and email them to GDTSTOO@dead.net
with the subject TAPING
I hope we can all work together to
improve our tape quality and
reduce the amount of effort/time it
takes to get good tapes at the Warfield.
Thanks,
Mark Carr

Subject: Is it the tape or the deck?
Date: Tue, 08 Jun 1999 14:06:35 -0400
Hi
I seem to be having an odd problem with my Sony R500. I have recently
noticed that my R500 plays some DAT tapes fine while others which appear fine
in my D8 and DA-20mkII seem error-ridden when played on the R500. (For
example, I taped Robert "Wolfman" Belfour Saturday using my D8 and a Maxell
HS/4 60m DAT. On mine and another's D8, along with my Tascam DA-20mkII the
tape appear fine - i.e. no drop-outs or other anomylous noises) however when
played on the R500 the error light essentially blinks 99% of the time with some
random digi-noise areas. I cleaned the R500 with a Maxell head-cleaning tape
and repeated with the same results (although the error light did not blink at
all for approximately 5 seconds, then returned to consistently blinking). Let
me reiterate that many if not most of my DAT tapes play without a single blink
on the R500 error light. Why would it play some tapes perfectly while not
another? Could this be the rumored "friction" problem of the Maxell HS/4
tape? Could it be the DAT gremlins? I am thinking that the R500 may need a
"manual" cleaning.
Has anyone else had this or a similar experience? Any/all help
appreciated.
Take Care,
Delano

are planning to tape on any format (dat, md, video, even analog!!!), please

I'm taping all of the bands (BLACK SABBATH, Stone Temple Pilots, Machine
Head, Coal Chamber, Type O Negative, System of a Down, Backyard Babies,
Godsmack, Slipknot, Static X, Apartment 26, Breed 77) on the 14TH AUGUST
from the seating section, using 2 setups : First is Sharp 702 MiniDisc using
Core Sound Binaural mics with Bass Roll Off filter + Batt Box. Second is
Sony MZR5ST MiniDisc using Sony ECM717 digital mic. I know one other person
taping all the bands on the 15th (same bands play on both days).
