From: jna <jna@retina.net> Subject: Re: DAT-Heads Digest #997 Date: Tue, 8 Jun 1999 19:12:40 -0400 (EDT) Hi. I'm looking for a source of a pair of high-quality lapel-style stereo mics that I can plug into my DAT recorder. Mics should be small, provide excellent dynamic range, and be easy to hide. Any sources would be appreciated (please reply directly though, and I'll summarize, because I don't read dat-heads on a regular basis.) -j

In a lot of ways, it's better than the 4021 (the cable is detachable, which is a nice convenience; however, it attaches in back, making the whole setup longer). They didn't exist when I got my 4021's, else I'd probably have bought them instead. Seth
From: Olaf Nelson <onelson@enteract.com> Subject: D7 won't open or do anything but turn on and off Date: Tue, 08 Jun 1999 19:55:18 -0500 1. Put the DAT in the D7 2. Closed D7. It felt funny, but not as if obstructed (by incompletely inserted tape, for example). 3. Deck emits high, quiet whine. Turns self off after five or ten seconds and powers back up almost immediately. 4. Will not unload, though it reads "unload" and might do it if it got power for a long enough time. 5. Continues to cycle on and off as long as I leave plugged in or batteries in. 6. Please tell me there's some kind of override button combination I can push, or some way to open the damn thing. 7. If I was in the process of cloning something for you, it might be a little while. 8. Anyone have any suggestions? 9. Thanks. Olaf

All you REALLY need is a passport. The tourism office might suggest that you need lots of stuff, but of the hundreds of times I've crossed back and forth from Canada to the US, I've never been asked to show more than one photo ID that shows where I'm from. If you can bring a passport and a driver's licence, then you've got tons of ID and should have no problems at all. The passport's good because it shows that you were born in the US. This is especially true at a big, busy borders around southern Ontario/northern NY. Personally, I've never brought a driver's licence (don't have one) or a passport to a show, and have never been refused entry. Nevertheless, play it safe and bring 2 pieces of ID if you can. From: Brian Kelley <isgraphix@hotmail.com> Subject: ***** Will trade PHISH Tweeter 7/13 for YOUR Tweeter 7/12 ***** Date: Tue, 08 Jun 1999 21:47:04 PDT Well, I've been getting "phish"-teased left and right from the alt.music.phish newsgroup, so I thought I'd try my luck here. If anybody, I mean ANYBODY, would be willing to trade your July 12 Tweeter (formerly Great Woods) ticket for my July 13, I will make it more than worth your while. I live around Atlanta, therefore I will be taping the 7/3-4 Lakewood shows. I'm flying up to Hartford around the weekend of 7/10 and was only able to catch ONE Phish show up 'ere! I had bought one originally for 7/13 because I had something else going on in New Haven on the 12th, but then it was canceled. (In case you were wondering, it was the other "Fish" - formerly of Marillion). So now I wanted to trade for the 12th because now it ends up I'm going to be flying back from Boston to see Ozric Tentacles back here in Atlanta (their first US tour in 5 years - can't miss the home gig!) Man, travelin' light -- it's the only way to fly ;) I will spin copies on DAT or CD-R (your choice) the 7/3-4 Lakewood shows and AT LEAST ONE of the Tweeter shows as well as trade ticket for ticket. Please lemme know if you can help me out. Nice, crispy tapes are looking for a new home :) Peace and music, Brian _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Visit http://www.msn.com

I'm looking for someone to trade with, individually or as a set, I entertain all trade options. I would like this person to run my D100, it will be a digital patch with Lithium Batteries and 60m tapes. The tapes will be unpacked and things will be ready to roll. So in light of that, I'd like to make the trade in person, no fear I'll be there early. So email me and let me know. Thanks, Jay

Do > the receivers have digital output? > > thanks, > Dan Hey Dan ! I had DMX for awhile and recorded straight to DAT. This was 5 years ago and at the time it had no digital outs. DMX since it was analog output based had a bad problem with ocassional "pops" that would interrupt thaw whole song. This was random and unpredictable as to when it would happen. More during the work day. I recently got out a DAT tape I made from this time and it was "fuzzy" compared to my Satellite >analog to DAT recordings ! I erased it !!! So your best bet is Digital Satellite Service !! Although you could call DMX & ask if they have digital outs now. I doubt they have taken care of the "pops" though since it is a land based service connected thousands of cable subscribers. Digital cable is now in some areas but same land based concept. I have installed hundreds of D.S.S. systems and you have a "direct" personal connection to a satellite 23,331 miles in space !!!! No links or connections to other subscribers such as cable. Satellite is the best on the market for TV & Music. Installing "Home Theater" for a living I see first hand what is the most consistent & best bang for your buck GO satellite you'll be happy !! .....:::::DOUG:::::..... www.benroth-entertainment.com <^>*<^>*<^>*<^>*<^>*<^>*<^>*<^>*<^>*<^>*<^>*<^>*<^>*<^>*<^>*<^>*<^> > From: "allan chen" <kaiyen@leland.Stanford.EDU> > Subject: battery-capable compressors? > Date: Tue, 8 Jun 1999 10:50:53 -0700 > > hi guys, > anyone know of a high quality compressor that is portable in size and > runs off of DC so a battery pack could be built? > > thanks, > allan chen Hey Allan ! Your best bet would be to buy a "half rack space" compressor such as DBX or ART offers. Found at most Pro. music stores. Is this possible? > > thanks, > Dan Hey Dan ! I install Digital Satellite for a living ! (& Home Theater) Yes you can use the Digital outs (Co-ax & Optic) For recording straight to DAT or Mini-Disc. All "multi-song" broadcast's such as Radio & Satellite do have a layer of Dynamic compression to balance the levels of song that are broadcast. You will notice it most on Heavy or Hard Rock & least on Jazz or Classical or any other "lighter" music styles. You'll get the best sounding recording using the digital outs from the satellite receiver because you are not going through a 2nd analog/digital transfer. If there's anyone on the > list willing to drop me a line with some > pointers, I'd really appreciate your input! > > Thanks! > > klong Hello Klong ! Here are some tips for recording live classical music. Use a "condenser mic" this is powered by a "AA" battery and meant for distant recording. If your mixing board has "phantom" power you do not need the batteries. Place your mic's -4- is best around the symphony. If you can record from a balcony that is best. Since classical music is often very "dynamic" (very soft to very loud) you might want to consider -very slight- stereo compression. This will keep your mic.s' from "clipping" and creating a "popping" during the loud parts of a song. Set your "threshold" on the compressor so it activates only during these parts. Keep you levels between -6 to -3 db on you DAT recorder, leaving you a "3" decibel safety margin to avoid digital distortion. This will give you a nice clean recording for loading into a computer for digital "mastering" and CD burning ! Good Luck !! .....:::::DOUG:::::..... www.benroth-entertainment.com .....:::::DOUG:::::..... " BLAZZE < ^ > "
