Subject: Error rate at D100...
Date: Fri, 2 Oct 1998 17:24:13 +0100
Recently my old D8 was stolen, and I decided to get a new D100, which seem to be a good choice for me, because the every time I saw D8, I felt very bad 'cause I missed it so much. Anyway, once I enabled it error count display facility, and found, that all the tapes recorded on D8 and DTC690 showed near zero errors, even at the very beginning of the tapes, but my new tapes, made on D100 show more errors, than those made on D8. The rate on D8 taoes were 0 - 2, here I have constantly >0, around 2-7, even 10 sometimes. I used the same tapes all the time, clean the heads every time I record (which do not seem to make any difference ). However, some tapes, made on studio equipment, like Panasonic and Tascam, show the same, if not bigger error rate. One channel on my D100 always shows slightly more errors, than the other, which tends to stay on 0, or 2 on those tapes made on D100. If anybody knows, what is the normal rate, and why I have those varuations, please answer here, on D!

Subject says it all. I have the Pearl Jam portion from 10/2/94 which
includes the ending jam with Neil etc. It is a soundboard source,
probably from a video patch. Looking for the Neil and Tom Petty sets.
Also any Lilith Fair tapes from the summer tour.
Plenty to trade, DAT or CD-R.

Mirabilis (ICQ) has the potential to obtain application specific
data from users system registries through their registry value

It has allowed the Mirabilis server to modify your ICQ client and
send it commands when connecting to their servers. It's been seen
to instruct PC's to send various components of the system

I am planning on getting a pair of the soudpro mics with the batter box and
the bass roll-off,
I have heard some DMB tapes made with the binaurals and they came out pretty
sweet, But alot of people tell me that the cardiods will produce a better
recording
I would be running the carioids or binaurals w/ the battery box into the Sony
D7. most likely i plan to have these micd up high and on a t-bar.
anyone that has either of these, please send me any info that might set me
straight

Subject: Digital EQ's

I think this topic has been discussed previously, but time has elapsed
since its last surfacing. I am trying to locate a digital equalizer than I
can run between 2 DAT decks or in sequence from DAT>DEQ>HHB CD recorder. I
am trying to keep all digital hear, but have found really few decks
available for this, besides using computer software, and computer CD
writeables. I have found a few models all by Yamaha, and I was wondering if
anyone has any experience with these models. They are:
Yamaha YDG 2030
Yamaha YDP2006
Yamaha DEQ5
Yamaha DEQ5E- expander of the DEQ5
Reading their literature, it appears to me these are more used for the
stage sound in sequence rather than home stereo sound. They are somewhat
pricey but would like to hear opinions prior to purchasing such equipment.
The Yamaha DEQ5 looks most promising.
Thanks for the space.
PS if anyone has Alex Sloley's current email address I would like to
contact him, but his current email has been bouncing.
Thanks again.

Most likely this is because you have not split the tracks on a frame boundary (1/75
sec). Zeros are added to fill out any partial frames and can be heard as a click. I
use CoolEdit for this purpose, getting a readout in frames and zooming in close enough
to see the individual samples.

As stated in a previous response, ECDC does not calculate without the 2-second gap
between tracks even when you select DAO. But, all CD-Rs I've seen have at least 74
min of space. If ECDC says OVERTIME, continue with the burn process and it will read
the actual amount of space on the disc. Sometimes these extra seconds over 74:00 will
be enough to overcome the DAO calculation error, and the burn will proceed. One time
I did have to resort to using Nero to burn a very long DAO disc.

1. Just get a cable with the right connectors. That will usually work
(more often AES/EBU to S/PDIF than vice versa, but probably for both).
2. The cable with a transformer to adjust the voltage; that will work
a bit more often in the S/PDIF to AES/EBU direction.
3. The only _correct_ way is with a format converter like the Digital
Domains FCN-1, but that's relatively expensive.

Subject: Sony repair problem w/ RM-D3k
Date: Sat, 3 Oct 1998 02:52:15 -0400 (EDT)
I have a similar repair horror story regarding Sony. My RMD3k unit broke
last winter, leaving me unable to clone any DATs. I sent the unit to Sony
for repairs plus the money... then, I hear nothing. NOTHING. I call and
ask about the unit, and was told that it was "out of stock" and that they
cannot repair it. They will contact me with further info. Nothing was
done--no one called me. So, finally about calling them continously for
about 1 month or so, they said that they are finally sending me a
replacement unit. I finally get the package, and they SEND ME THE FUCKING
REMOTE CONTROL! The RMD3K consists of the RMTD3 and RMRD3, the former the
D8 adapter box, and the latter the remote control for the adaptor box.
I've sent in ONLY the RMTD3 of the RMD3K kit--and I get a REMOTE CONTROL
BACK! I call them, and complain for another month--trying to explain in
vain to EVERY SINGLE person the difference between the two... it was, to
say the least, painful. So, the end of the sory was about 3 or 4 month
after I sent in the original unit--they finally simply sent me an entire
new RMD3K kit, with a new remote AND box. I didn't need another remote
control, but so long as I get a replacement box. I will NEVER buy another
Sony product if I can help it--especially something having ANYTHING to do
with their DAT decks.
