From: "Dan Zoner" <danzoner@hotmail.com> Subject: Sorry for the CD content, but I do mention the term DAT... Date: Mon, 05 Apr 1999 20:40:31 PDT I just purchased a Plextor 4/12 CDR and I had a semi-DAT related question. I have heard of people directly connecting digitally to their CD/CDR to connect to their DAT and record straight from the drive. Is this signal an output or a myth. There is a RGGL connector on the back and I know it connects directly to a PC soundcard / MAC logic board. Is this the digital out? What kind of cable or homebrew connection would I need and where can I find it? Respond to the list or danzoner@hotmail.com. Thanks in advance. Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

I've got two barely played tapes I'd like to do a trade for, if anyone's up for it: Grateful Dead 4-21-71 all Sbd - with the Beach Boys sitting in mid-second set 12-12-90 all dsbd Looking for a couple of Brent-era Dead shows in trade. From: "Greg M." <gmm6797@servtech.com> Subject: FW: Red Rocks no more? Date: Tue, 06 Apr 1999 00:30:57 -0400 Feel free to copy this petition and forward it to your family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues for their consideration. Thanks for your support! Quick Sign Petition to Preserve Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre If you'd like to learn more about this issue, please visit: http://www.red-rocks.org Red Rocks amphitheatre is an internationally renowned venue in the foothills west of Denver, Colorado. Performers and spectators alike have come from all over the globe to participate in events at this amphitheatre. Its unsurpassed beauty, and natural, near-perfect acoustics have drawn millions to this site. It's a magnificent natural treasure that should be preserved and protected. On Feb 18, 1999, the City of Denver announced plans to renovate this historic landmark. The City's first proposal called for a number of "improvements" which they claimed would make the amphitheatre more "user-friendly." A few of their proposed changes included: removing existing landscape to add 400 new box seats building a new restaurant and trading post beneath and behind one of the 400-foot Red Rock monoliths that this park is known for, although the park already has a well-established restaurant, trading post, and visitor's center. allowing corporate sponsors to display advertisements on the magnificent red stone monoliths. adding more concessions stand at strategic locations These are just a few of the City's proposed changes which would adversely affect not only the character of this historical landmark, but dramatically impact the park in which it is located. Red Rocks Park is 639 acres of designated open space, and one of the last bits of undeveloped real estate on the western edge of Denver. Any attempt to commercialize this property goes against the very purpose and intent of dedicating open space. We treasure our historical landmarks, and we value our open lands. On March 2, 1999, Denver's Landmark Preservation Commission unanimously voted down the City's current proposal, but don't think this is over yet. One way that our representatives can be aware of our concern for and our commitment to the preservation of this historical landmark, and the open lands that surround this amphitheatre, is by making our and the open lands that surround this ampitheatre, is by making our voices heard. Please add your name to this list and forward it to your family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues; anyone you feel may have an interest in adding their names to this petition. Please include your name, city, state, country (outside the US), and a valid email address (or any portion thereof that you feel comfortable sharing). From: "Gary Davis" <gdavis@loop.com> Subject: Blur and Barenaked Ladies on Much Music today Reply-to: gdavis@loop.com Date: Mon, 5 Apr 1999 21:59:38 -0700 Blur popped into Much Music for an hour this afternoon, and Barenaked Ladies did an Intimate & Interactive tonight (live from the Supper Club in NYC). Blur actually played for about 25 minutes, and the BNL package, music and talk, runs 1:16. The talk parts of BNL are much funnier than the music, so I see no reason to make a "music only" DAT. (I recorded BNL directly to dat, but Blur went to dat through a video gen -- sorry -- I wasn't expecting them to play more than one or two songs). If anyone is interested in trading for or making a minitree out of these shows, please let me know. Other recent I&I or MuchMusic concerts of note - Tragically Hip, Smashing Pumpkins, Sloan, Foo Fighters, Alanis M. - there are more but these come to mind. Also, I've heard rumors that an R.E.M. I&I occured, but I didn't see it - anyone know about this?? I'm going to edit the commercials out of the BNL show using my new "auto-edit" method combining the "skip play" feature of the Fostex D5 (and other dat machines), and the "instant stop/All- Sync" feature of the HHB-850 CD recorder. During the broadcast, I already put Start_ID's at the beginning of each segment (as I usually do). Now all I need is find each of these start_ID's, back up 3 minutes of commercials (more for most U.S. channels, of course) and put a Skip_ID at the *end* of each segment. Then the DAT/CD combo will do the rest. I'll bet I can prep the entire tape (1 1/2 hours) in under 10 minutes... here goes: time now is 9:47PM... 9:54-- done! Just seven minutes to prepare an entire radio/tv-type concert for auto-editing. --Gary
From: Plpalmer@ix.netcom.com Subject: Neil Finn 4-3-99 Date: Tue, 06 Apr 1999 00:22:55 -0700 I went to tape Robyn Hitchcock at Largo Saturday Night and Neil Finn did an unannounced 40 minute set. He said he rarely plays these songs. This is the set as near as I can figure it: Coming Into Los Angeles Private Universe The Buglar Song Lester Into Temptation Fall At Your Feet Four Seasons In One Day Sinner He then played drums for Robyn Hitchcock for the next hour. I don't collect Neil Finn, but I'll look at your list and I'm sure we can work out a trade. Peter
From: Glenn Gillis <deadhead@pcisys.net> Subject: ISO: Dead 12/31/70 DAT or CD-R Date: Tue, 06 Apr 1999 02:36:43 -0600 I am putting together a complete New Years Eve run of Dead shows, and am having trouble coming up with a digital copy of 12/31/70. Seems that Gans played part of it on his radio show, and subsequently made copies of what he played onto DAT for folks. I will be getting the cass. master of the Good Lovin->UJB sometime soon (the DAT owner will not trade for it). I also would love to find the entire show (warts & all) on DAT or CD-R. I have little to trade on DAT, but about 100 hours of CD-R: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Stage/4800/CDR.html Thanks! Glenn
