I'm looking for a clean copy of the 8/16/99 Fillmore-San Francisco. I have one, its got problems. Plenty of stuff to trade, just name it.... Thanks, Alex

This is an AMD Athlon based motherboard. It is a 6 PCI / 1 ISA slot motherboard that uses PC133 SDRAM. It was very easy to install and configure and is performing great. I think this makes a good alternative to the Intel/Rambus combo. There is a good review of the motherboard here: http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1405 This review is on the KT7A-RAID board that adds an IDE RAID controller to the motherboard. Mike

If anyone can help me out I would surely appreciate it. Thanks! Sincerely, Eddie Woodward Williamsburg, Virginia

From: "phunk1" <phunk1@nyc.rr.com> Subject: diginoise...how does it happen Date: Thu, 1 Mar 2001 11:16:59 -0500 how exactly do those little spots get in there? Assuming you know its the tape and not the deck. I always thought it had soemthing to do with the way the master was recorded, i.e. a cable, or some electrical problems. But now, for the first time I have encountered a dat that has had digi-spots introduced after the master, and I I ma wondering what could ahve cause it. It was only played 5 or 6 times.....

From: da9ve stovall <da9ve@pcgeek.net> Subject: PLEASE TAPE: Robyn Hitchcock/Soft Boys reunion tour Date: 28 Feb 2001 14:48:15 -0800 Here are tour dates for the upcoming Robyn Hitchcock/Soft Boys reunion tour. Does anyone know if he has an official stance on taping? I *seem* to recall that Robyn himself is at least rather neutral on the matter, but would appreciate verification of this. This tour is an historic event - it should be recorded! I'm planning on getting the Chicago show, but I don't exactly have the best-sounding mics, so it'd be way cool if someone else could double up on that one. Needless to say, I'd be interested in trading (especially for properly mastered CD-Rs) for any of these shows. I have a few Hitchcock rarities/b**tlegs. cheers, da9ve ROBYN HITCHCOCK/SOFT BOYS TOUR! It was while browsing your page that I decided to make my own battery pack for the Creative Nomad Jukebox from NiMH "D" cells. Now that I have seen how cool it was to do, I thought I would brave the D3 as well. You might want to consider making a pack for the Jukebox as well. It is selling like crazy and it will record 44.1k or 48k directly to its internal 6gig HD. I imagine it's only a matter of time before it catches on as a recording device. BTW: 23-25 hours on the BD? Damn. You using the MAHACell 8000mAh "D" cells? Thanks for the info! ================ Warren Melnick Director of Research and Development Astata Corporation >> You're right about the Jukebox needing some external support. It would be interesting to see what can be done with external powering and providing a mic preamplifier that's matched to work with that (likely very cheap) internal A/D it ships with. Using a PCM-M1 deck's digital output is suggested as a PREPROCESSOR to the Nomad. The M1 has much better quality dual AKM 20 bit A/D with all the needed mic input/Level Knob/VU meter function that's missing from making the NOMAD a practical high quality audio disk recorder. BTW Alkaline D Cells contain 14+ Amps of juice. The D3 DAT will follow the 6 alkaline cells down to .8 volts/cell (technical cell cut-off) for getting 23+ hours of recording! This is a nice coincidence as the deck was designed for rechargeables. USE ONLY (5) NiMH cells if making a rechargeable; this is then a 6 NiMH volt pack. Using only five cells keeps the low battery meter honest on the D3 and will not over-discharge the cells as the deck will shut down at the right time to avoid cell damage. Remember to safety in-series Fuse all battery packs capable of hundreds of amperes if accidentally shorted out. From: "Jim" <Spidergawd@mediaone.net> Subject: Beatles rooftop source question Date: Wed, 28 Feb 2001 19:47:38 -0500 Hey all, thanks to the generosity of Larry Slavens (and several before him) I am in possession of the Beatles rooftop gig on DAT. After a very busy month I am finally ready to transfer this to CDR (since I am a unidecker) and offer it back to the list in CD audio format, but I am concerned with the recent discussions about DATs with PCM generations not transferring pre-emphasis info to CDR without first making necessary corrections. After searching the archives I believe that the source for this tape is a bootleg CD, which would mean that there is no pre-emphasis info to worry about. However, before I go any further I would like to verify, since I will be using a Tascam CDRW700 for the transfer and have no way to correct this problem if it does indeed exist. So, could someone please verify the source of this tape? Thanks, Jim BWT I will offer this on CDR to 5 people as soon as I get it transferred, honest I will!
From: "Bob Griesel" <sundance@olywa.net> Subject: Whole Lotta Shakin' - No list Subjects Reply-To: <sundance@olywa.net> Date: Wed, 28 Feb 2001 17:12:15 -0800 Thanks for all the messages, good thoughts, and curiosity. We who live around here will be shakin' for a lot longer than the ground did today! I work on the 4th floor of a building in Olympia that is nearly 100 years old. Another guy and myself spent the longest half-minute of our lives just trying to stay inside of a door casing while the building made like a toy boat in a windstorm. The only thing louder than the noise made by the earthquake was the sound of freaking and screaming, and of everything that wasn't tied down crashing to the floor. I think I can honestly say that everyone there had kissed it goodbye before the motion stopped. I literally peeled some ashen-faced folks from under their desks afterward - these people were literally frozen! BUT no one was injured and everyone was accounted for. To leave the building, we had to climb over dumped bookcases, computer monitors, and junk I didn't even recognize. Moving down the staircase, we could see big cracks in the building. We won't know for a few days whether the damage is structural or cosmetic. I got outa dodge and drove the 17 miles up into the hills to our house before anyone had a chance to tell us where we could drive, or where we couldn't. I wanted to check on Sandi and our house; probably moving so fast that I woulda flown over any broken bridges! I expected the worst after what happened to our office, but Sandi was fine, and so was the house - not so much as a broken glass! These hills are solid basalt, so we don't rock'n'roll the way things do down on the flats. After about six hours the power came back on, and my ISP is even running. Even the trades and trees will go uninterrupted it seems. Matter of fact, things may even speed up a bit since I guess we won't be going back to the office until they finish appraising the damage. Appreciating life! -Bob ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` "People need celebration in their life. We need magic. From: "Joe Doheny" <joedoheny@icx.net> Subject: More DAT liquidation... Date: Wed, 28 Feb 2001 20:26:48 -0800 Greetings, I've sold all the Dead Dats I listed a few weeks ago. Luckily I=20 found someone to buy them all. Below is what I have left=20 batched out in batches of 10 tapes. Every bit of information I=20 have on them is listed. I would like to sell these for $30 a batch=20 or $3 a piece as it works out. That is about cost of blanks these=20 days, and maybe a bit less than I paid when I collected them. I=20 do not have a dat deck anymore so I can't answer questions as=20 to how this tape or that sounds. First priority goes to someone=20 who is willing to take the whole lot $450 for 150 tapes. If that=20 does not happen, I'll sell them on a first come first serve basis. I=20 have a good bit of analogs for sale as well at cost. See=20 http://members.xoom.com/joedoheny for information if you are=20 interested. I put a blank Sony DG60P into my 302 (DAT1) to record a show and it seems to have locked up. The display reads 'TOP' and it sounds like the motor keep going back and forth on deck 1. The problem is, it wont stop and it wont let me eject the tape. Is this a bad tape, or is something wrong with the deck?? How can I eject the tape? I have not had any problems with the deck before. Please help! TIA, ~Robert
