From: randy@monkeybiz.Stanford.EDU Subject: dea(r)th of dat machines Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2001 14:30:09 -0800 (PST) while retail stores selling dat machines are comparitively rare here, that didn't seem to be the case in Japan. I stopped into a couple stores in the Akihabara (electronics district) in Tokyo last week and found DATs for sale in both big stores and teensy mom & pop places. Of course, MD and CD machines outnumbered them by a huge margin, but it was still kind of cool to walk into a high end stereo salesroom and see not one, but five or six home DATs set up for display... -rand0m
From: randy@monkeybiz.Stanford.EDU Subject: kudoes to sony service Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2001 14:52:47 -0800 (PST) Had the HOLD button to my D100 break (while ON, natch) the night of my arrival in Tokyo two weeks ago. Aaargh! So much for recording local music... Anyways, dropped the deck off at the closest Sony Service Center after doing my best to (a) explain the problem and (b) bargain them down from the ~$130 flat rate repair despite my terrible Japanese (only 1 year of study, but it was *really* helpful) and their lack of ability at speaking English
From: "david gatewood" <daveg_8@hotmail.com> Subject: mics for sale Date: Mon, 05 Mar 2001 23:16:22 Due to my need for a big fat hairy amp, I need to sell my extra set of mics. They are: 1 pair Beyerdynamic MCE 83 cardioid condensors. Freq resp is 40-20,000 hz with a 2db rise in the 1-10khz region. I bought them a year ago and due to some things going my way upgraded to MBHO's soon after. They have been used only 1 time and are in very good condition. I paid $460 for them and would like around $400 or best offer. I can send a sample DAT of a local band that I used them on. Source on that is MCE 83's>Aerco>SBM1>D8. They have a warm smooth sound and work well with either a pre or a battery phantom supply (require 48 Volt phantom). I used a pair back in '96 with a set of Stewert's and a D6 cassette with good results. Email me with any questions.....Dave _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

What dB resolution does the MARGIN COUNTER count in: ie. 0.1dB increments or 1.0dB increments or 0.5dB increments and at what point does the MARGIN COUNTER start to work ie. Min. 18dB? Reason being this is for mastering purposes and I need it to count in 0.1dB increments up to 0.0dB eg.. 1.1dB,1.0dB, 0.9dB, 0.8dB,0.7dB...... Anybody?

I taped them in St. Louis, but unfortunately, my tape was plagued by clicks every few seconds (still don't know why). From: BenJD2B@aol.com Subject: Aiwa HHB1Pro Dat Recorder FS Date: Tue, 06 Mar 2001 08:58:48 EST This is the portable HHB1Pro, silver and shaped like a brick. Not as stealthy as a D7/D8/M100, but you can creatively sneak it into shows. Its a professional portable recorder with AES/EBU digital cable, XLR Mic Cable, and 75ohm spdif digital cable (from ProDigital)--all cables supplied. Power Supply is a 7 hour high capacity F cells pack in a case - there is an AC charger as well. The power supply is only a year old and my first power supply by the same manufacturer lasted 9 years. The original black leatherette case is a little bit beat up but it protects the deck from dust and dirt. I have a thick padded nylon case used for medical monitors that functions as my protective carry bag--it's brick shaped with a strap and zips up completely and can hold a few dat tapes and cables so you would be good to go with a one bag setup. Anyhow, this is all being sold since I am going off to law school this fall and need to simplify my life. I have been taping since 1989 and its been a good run but now its time to move on <sniff, sniff>. $1200 + shipping/insurance for the whole lot and I will throw in 3 of my best shows: High Sierra fest from 1999, Allmans from the Beacon from the 7th row, etc that were recorded with my legendary Josephson microphones and the HHB1Pro recorder.
