From: enrico@pemo.com Subject: Head replacement for Sony TCD-3 Date: Tue, 6 Mar 2001 19:14:56 GMT Brought my 11 old year Sony TCD-3 to my local assistance center in Italy for repair (diginoises every 4-5 seconds), the diagnosis is that it needs head replacement, but that Sony does not supply it any more, at least in Europe: has anybody any recommandation or suggestion about what to do (apart buying a new and more recent unit)? Is this part still available in the USA or somewhere else? If yes, where and at which price? Any help is greatly appreciated. Regards, Enrico DAT list at: www.pemo.com/Enrico_DAT.htm

From: "Osman Balkan" <obalkan@adelphia.net> Subject: FS: Tascam DA-20 Date: Tue, 6 Mar 2001 16:40:13 -0500 I am mailing this for a friend who is not on the list. All inquiries should be made to him at: jsb@borg.com I am going to college next year and I don't think I will have room for my Tascam DA-20MKII It was purchased from Oades in June of 1999 and has served me extremely well since then. I also purchased the extended warranty from Terrapin but there has been no need to utilize it yet. Every 25-30 hours or so I ran a head cleaner so they should be in fine working condition. In addition to keeping the heads clean, I used very few 90m's. I still have all the original manuals and the packaging and the remote. No scratches, nicks or dents. I am asking $575 for the deck and the warranty, without shipping. But please feel free to make me an offer. I also have about 30 Phish shows, 10 moe. shows, 4 DMB shows and a few GD / Other Ones. I would like to sell the tapes to either one person or the buyer of the deck. I am asking $3 per tape to recover some of the postage and effort involved in acquiring each show. Tapes are either KAO or Sony. You can browse the list at: http://www.borg.com/~jsb/list.html The Dat world has been a great ride so far but I would like to pass the hobby and passion to someone else. Any serious offers please feel free to contact me at: jsb@borg.com Regards, Jeff Borenstein

From: "Bryce" <spaceism@sympatico.ca> Subject: SONY PCM-R500 Margin Counter Inconsistencies Date: Tue, 6 Mar 2001 20:48:15 -0500 Thanks to every DAT Head that has replied to me regarding this issue. Your input has all been really Helpful. At this point I have had half and half responses where 50% have R500s that read in 0.5dB increments and the other in 0.1dB increments. I think I will have to call Sony directly (as I even tried today and they didn't have the answer) since the year 2001 models could be slightly different than previous years. Thanks everyone. ===============================ORIGINAL MESSAGE Someone please help me before I purchase as nobody seems to know this small detail. a) In regards to the NUMERICAL MARGIN COUNTER in the R500 display - NOT having anything to do with the GRAPHICAL BAR GRAPH LEVEL METER. What dB resolution does the MARGIN COUNTER count in: ie. 0.1dB increments or 1.0dB increments or 0.5dB increments and at what point does the MARGIN COUNTER start to work ie. Min. 18dB? Reason being this is for mastering purposes and I need it to count in 0.1dB increments up to 0.0dB eg.. 1.1dB,1.0dB, 0.9dB, 0.8dB,0.7dB...... Anybody?
