From: augwest <augwest@telepath.com> Subject: Hendrix Date: Thu, 08 Mar 2001 10:26:34 -0600 Hola! I'm searching for Hendrix at the University of Oklahoma FieldHouse May 1970.. Anyone know of this show and whether its around? I know it is not complete, but every little bit helps! Thanks, Jeff Oklahoma City http://www.telepath.com/augwest/index1.html
From: Dirk Cota <dccota@chdmeridian.com> Subject: Need A Taper In Atlanta This Sunday Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 12:11:23 -0600 The John Cowan Band is playing at the Brandyhouse in Buckhead for a live radio show. I won't be able to make the show, but I need to get it taped by someone for his archives. Prefer a soundboard or audience tape from the show itself, but the FM is fine too. The show will be broadcast on Z93 (92.9FM) and is called "The Dunhams" at around 9:30 or 10:00 Sunday. If you happen to go to the Brandyhouse to record, John allows taping of all kinds (aud, sbd, video). If you haven't heard these guys you should go check them out! John is best known as the voice of the New Grass Revival, but the music he's playing these days can hardly be called bluegrass! Some elements of bluegrass are there, but it's a dizzying mix of rock, r&b, blues and funk as well. Lots to trade in return, John shows as well as plenty of other stuff from my old trading days! Thanks, Dirk BWT: One show from my list *gratis* to the first person who replies and is willing to record the show for me (DAT or CDR OK).

From: Mason Deming <chunksmyhero@yahoo.com> Subject: Fixing wind sounds .. Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 10:57:48 -0800 (PST) I was taping a show last night and a fan was turned on when the lights went out. Even through I had windscreens on, there's wind audio in one of the channels every 4-5 seconds. Should I double the good channel audio or is there a plug-in/methodology for cleaning up wind sounds? I'd prefer to keep the stereo separation if at all possible, but maybe it's just my naivity in assuming doubled mono would sound like garbage. I use Sony TCD-100 DAT & Sound Professional slimline cardiods if it helps. Thanks for any help, ~ Mason __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? It is possible to record in MP3 from LINE IN ? It is possible to send recording commands from an attached PC ? It is possible to replace the Hard Disk ? The recording level is automatic or manual ? how it is possible to set it correctly ? It is reliable ? How much it takes to transfer 6GB to/from a PC ? Are there new models on the horizon ? And incidentally, Hank's computer has been down for a while so he hasn't been able to read all the posts or reply. I asked him yesterday what he thought about people taping the shows and he's still all for it. So bring it on, tape away!! But then I also asked what he thought about the guy that's selling Hank stuff on eBay - and he's definitely not in support of that. Hank says bid the shit out of the prices, send 'em through the roof and make that guy pay a huge closing fee. (Just don't complete your payment.) That ought to take the fun out of it for him. So that's the word, bird. Bring your mics, bring your recorders. Spread the word. But don't go scalping your product on eBay and don't support the scum. http://pluto.beseen.com/boardroom/m/51372/View?n=03635 3/08 Daves On Dickson Fayetteville, AR 3/09 Billy Bob’s Fort Worth, TX 3/10 Whiskey Dicks Houston, TX 3/12-13 Continental Club Austin,TX 3/16 N/A Lafayette, LA 3/17 SXSW & Hightimes private party Austin, TX 4/6-7 Casino Magic Bay St. Louis,MS 4/28 Shrine Park Macon, GA .: HANK III on the MELVINS TOUR 5/4-5/15 :. ..The Microphone Tour.. .sound will never be the same. 5/4 Hairy Mary's Des Moines, IA 5/5 The Bottleneck Lawrence, KS 5/7 Fox Theatre Boulder, CO 5/9 Liquiud Joes Salt lake City, UT 5/10 The Big Easy Boise,ID 5/11 Pine Street Theatre Portland, OR 5/12 Showbox Seattle, WA 5/14 Slims San Francisco, CA 5/15 Troubadour Los Angeles, CA 5/16 4th & B San Diego, CA 5/17 Montanas San Dimas,CA .: HANK III on theWARPED TOUR 6/22-8/12 :. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
From: "john e. bogus" <mallness@surfbest.net> Subject: to let you all know Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 16:15:29 -0500 Tim Cochrane is a fair and honest individual to deal with. Should he have anything else to sell, buy, or trade through this list, do not hesitate to deal with him. Thanks to Tim for allowing me to join the ranks by selling me a D7. With that, (and finally getting my isp switched), I now may introduce myself as trading in digital formats. Since I am presently a unidecker, I might be a little slow on trades at first, but may have a few things some of you may want, including many analog masters. My primary interest is older rock stuff. My email is: mallness@surfbest.net With that, here we go.........

From: "john e. bogus" <mallness@surfbest.net> Subject: wanted: Captain Beyond trades/Florida tapers Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 16:23:44 -0500 Who's down there in Florida taping the Captain Beyond shows? I've had several good responses from the band's message board for trades of older material, but still haven't hooked up with someone taping the current shows. I hear there were at least 3 camcorders in the audience at the 12/9/00 show, so video as well as audio is floating around somewhere. Who's holding? Email to mallness@surfbest.net

From: "john e. bogus" <mallness@surfbest.net> Subject: Bang Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 16:38:30 -0500 Bang has reformed, has a new cd out, and is playing shows again in the Philadelphia area. The band was unaware of the taping and trading scene, so I was more than glad to inform and explain to them. The result is that we now HAVE PERMISSION to tape audio and video at any show. Board patches will depend on venue and soundman. Bang is glad to have people interested in taping the shows, so you are not in a stealth situation with this band. They only have 3 simple rules: 1) No selling, of course. 2) Please provide the band with a copy of the show for their own personal archives. 3) Spread the word as well as the music. Their website can be found at www.BANGmusic.com and has lots of neat stuff, including free downloads of everything they've ever recorded as well as cd reissues of all the old albums for sale. Great people, great music, and a taper friendly band for sure! So with that, I proudly offer for trade the show at Murph's Pub, Wilmington, Delaware 2/17/01. Audio recorded with Nak 300's into a D7 at 48khz, also mastered DV video as well. Approx. 95min. Email me at mallness@surfbest.net for a trade.
From: "john e. bogus" <mallness@surfbest.net> Subject: Meat Puppets, too Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 16:46:34 -0500 I also taped the Meat Puppets show at the 9:30 club in Washington DC on 2/3/01. There are 3 sources for this show. The band's soundman used a pointsource stereo mic instead of going out of the board, so you will not find a sbd of this show. Two decks were run off a pair of Schoeps, and I stealthed from the sweetspot. The Schoeps tape had a better sounding high end and my tape had a better sounding low end in a direct comparison. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. If you like to feel all that low end and would prefer my master (small omni condensers into a D7 at 48khz), email me at mallness@surfbest.net to trade.

From: acffh <morst@itis.com> Subject: Re: Need mixer help Date: Thu, 08 Mar 2001 18:33:35 -0600 Hey Pat and the heads of DAT- For mixing AUD and SBD live direct to two-track, with your board, either high or low impedence inputs should work. I am not totally familiar with the MP-2, but if it has XLR outputs, you can use the xlr (low Z) inputs. (Z stands for Impedence- which is like resistance except as applied to AC circuits, not just DC) If your mic preamp only has RCA outputs, it would be best to keep it unbalanced and go into the 1/4" inputs(high Z). You might wish to test before the show, if you can get in for soundcheck (or at home beforehand if not) and see which seems to have the best-sounding circuitry. As for choice of outputs, again, depending on what recorder or A>D converter you have- if your recorder is a Panasonic SV-3700 or some converter with XLR analog inputs, keep it Low Z, otherwise for the small portables, the RCA tape outs will be very convenient and probably have a separate level control. However, that level control will be another piece of circuitry between the source and the deck, listen in a quiet space to see if it adds noise at the output. some knobs sound best all the way up, some add noise above a certain point- If it's marked for Unity Gain (as the name impluies that it might be) try that setting- Unity refers to the same signal level at the output as at the input=zero dB gain- and should sound clean. when your friend said "Keep the gain low" he meant at the individual channel inputs. If you peak those into clipping, you'll hear that and it won't be pleasant! Line signals can average -20dB and be just right when they go through all the board's other faders and get added to other signals, especially if the faders sound best all the way up! I hope this is helpful to any and all! -tom PS- Reason For Leaving opens tommorrow (Fri March 9 2000) at the Barrymore theatre in Madison WI for John Brown's Body- Taper-friendly reggae from Boston and Ithaca. . . All tapers welcome, we'll have a section behind the board on both sides of the aisle. . .I'll be mixing, so board patches available for those with no mics, or you can take my KM-140 feed, but bring those XLR's Kiddies- it's a matrix, I bet!!! http://www.geocities.com/reasonforleavingworld soon to be http://www.rflmusic.com -=-=-=-=-=-=---=-=-==--=-=-=-==-=-=-=--=-==---=-=-=-=--=-=--==-==--=-=-= I got a mixer from a friend and I want to do some sbd/mic mixing. I have oktava mc012>sound devices mp2.The mixer is a peavey 12 channel unity 1000. All 12 channels have highz(1/4 inch) and lowz mic(xlr) inputs. He told me to use the high z mic inputs and keep the gain low. I try both the high z and lowz inputs and they both seem to work. Which one should I use?? I tried xlr output on the mp2>xlr lowz input on the mixer. I also tried stereo mini out on mp2>1/4 inch highz input on the mixer. The mixer also has a tape input and output. Should I use the main output of tape output??

From: "Brian Kelley" <bpkelley@myexcel.com> Subject: FOLLOW-UP: HELP WITH TURTLE BEACH FIJI Date: Fri, 09 Mar 2001 05:42:55 -0800 I tried to install the files with the fiji407.zip file from tbeach.com, but it still is not recognizing my sound card. If somebody has a Turtle Beach Fiji I/O card and could email me the drivers in a ZIP format, I would appreciate it. From what I remember, the Fiji came with the Applications CD (and ALSO a 3.5" floppy which contained the actual drivers). Am I correct here? Again, I'd like ALL the contents of the diskette (files, folders, and all) ZIPped up and sent over. If anybody can help fill me in so I can start burning discs again, I will spin you two shows of your choice on CD-R. I can send a list upon request. Thanks again. Brian
