From: JHCWSP@cs.com Subject: Panasonic SV-250 for sale Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 09:13:30 EST I have a Panasonic SV-250 I would like to sell. It hasen't been used in about 2 years. I'm guessing that the heads have about 150 hours of use on them. If anyone is interested, please e-mail me an offer. Also, you can check out e-bay.
From: "J.Garcia" <elektrik@navegalia.com> Subject: reusing dat tapes? Reply-to: elektrik@navegalia.com Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 17:07:31 +0100 I'm not much acquainted with all the details of dat-recording yet, although I've taped a few shows already. Hardware used: PCM-M1 + binaural mics Can a DAT tape be reused? If I reuse a DAT tape, precautions before reusing it? (do I have to erase ID's manually, etc???) I ask as I attended a performance and, as precaution to avoid missing the start of the show, this was cancelled but I already taped 10 minutes or so. Before taping any show, I skip 2 minutes of tape, either by pressing the play button or by recording a blank fragment. Is there anything wrong with this? Is there any info in internet on how to operate ID's etc with a PCM-M1? Replies to the list are fine. Jose Garcia elektrik@navegalia.com
From: "Hans" <sky83539@skynet.be> Subject: ISO: Nick Cave & Dirty Three Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 17:23:06 +0100 Nick Cave will be doing some (so called solo) shows in the US from March 21 to March 31. He will be accompanied by 2/3 of Dirty Three. Would love to hear recordings of those. Anyone with good taste and some fine quality Nick Cave & Dirty Three or other Australian stuff (Cruel Sea, Dave Graney, Kim Salmon, Tren Brothers, etc..) please contact me. Many master DAT recordings for trade. I have world's largest Nick Cave collection. Can clone to CD-R too. Hans (Belgium-Europe)
From: "Alan Goldenberg" <airtaxi@mediaone.net> Subject: Brave Combo Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 10:32:14 -0600 Anybody know what their policy is regarding taping? Looking for some live shows if anybody has 'em. Alan
From: "taperroy" <taperroy@powerlynk.com> Subject: audio cdrs Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 11:31:46 -0600 in reply to eric... , when i first purchased my stand alone cdr burner.. i felt like a dummy ,, cuz i went to buy some discs, and the discs were ridulously priced. in the last year tho,, the prices on these audio only discs have come way down, im able to buy maxell discs a 25 pack WITH slimline cases for $20.00 regular price at best buy. this works out to .80 cents each (with case) which isnt too bad , once you add the cost of the case. if you wanna go cheaper,, you can purchase memorex discs a 30 spindle for $ 20 bucks. CHEAPER IF ON SALE!!! perhaps still not as cheap as computer burning, but with stand alone burner,, youre not buying a sound card,, programs. cdr burner. cables... biggest drawback for me is that its real time burning only..... and even now they are making consumer models that are doing quicker spins than real time!! just a fyi... taperroy
From: "Rob Bertrando" <rob_bertrando@hotmail.com> Subject: "audio" CDR's Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 10:27:00 -0800 TDK 80 min audio CDR's are available from Costco for about $1.25, and 74 min for about $1.10, depending on quantity, rebates, etc. "off" brands, like Memorex, are under $1 for 80 minutes. While more than computer CDR's cost now, it's about what most of us were paying 18 mos ago.
From: Alan Saferstein <gruvenon@netzero.net> Subject: Right Angle XLR's Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 13:24:58 -0500 I don't see a lot of tapers using right angle XLR's on the mic end of their cables. It seems the way people run their mic cables that right angle XLR's would be ideal. Is there some reason, other than they cost a little more, that these are not more common? From: KindTaper@aol.com Subject: You can get audio only discs cheaper than $2-3 Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 13:33:08 EST someone said: <<but it only uses audio CDrs which are damn expensive (~$2-3 each.) It does not accept the computer CDrs that most of us use.>> Tape Warehouse here in Atlanta has the consumer discs for much less than $2-3 a disc. I think the standard disclaimer is to say that I don't work for them, etc., and I don't. But I have shopped there for years and they seem to always beat everyone else's prices. I just went to their website, www.tapewarehouse.com, and you can buy a 100 pack spindle of 80 minute digital audio Accurec discs for $49.71. Now I don't recommend these discs, simply because I like Mitsui's and Taiyo Yudens. But if generic media doesn't bother you, 50 cents a disc for audio grade 80 minute discs is not a bad deal. They also have Memorex 25 packs of 80 minute audio discs for $15.94 or something like that. That's less than $1 a disc and Memorex sometimes uses Taiyo Yuden discs in their rotation. Well under a $1 for DA Taiyo Yuden discs is a deal. I remember when they were $4.99-$5.99 a disc. I also remember when computer cd-r's weren't 10 cents a disc. They were $14.99 each and it really sucked to ruin 5 of those with a bad computer. Thanks, Wes Kindtaper@aol.com

Reply-To: "d kelly" <dckelly43@earthlink.net> Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 15:16:13 -0600 Hello, I've got a box of Hewlett Packard DVD+RW discs. # C4439A... I got them from a friend who worked for HP. Discs hold 3.0GB... The cd inserts say they can be used as cdr for music. sounds to me like 3.0 gb could hold 4+ hours of tunes? Does anyone have the capabilities to burn on these discs? I sure dont.. If anyone can use them let me know. or if there is a site where I could learn more about DVD audio I'd appreciate a link or something. Thanks in advance, dk My cdr/dat list & more: http://home.earthlink.net/~dckelly43

Yes. > If I reuse a DAT tape, precautions before reusing it? (do I have to erase > ID's manually, etc???) Best is to use a bulk eraser that can handle dat tapes (not a cassette eraser; something like the Geneva PF-215 would work. Otherwise, don't bother; erasing ID's won't matter, as far as I can tell. > Before taping any show, I skip 2 minutes of tape, either by pressing the > play button or by recording a blank fragment. Is there anything wrong with > this? If you skip the first two minute by pressing play, you won't have ATIME when you record. Recording blank is fine, but then you should rewind well into that segment in order to ensure ATIME. Seth

"Music" CDR's might cost $2 or $3 each at the music store at the mall but look carefully, KMART had 30 packs on a spindle in their flyer today for $19.99. Staples has them for under $1 each in quantities too. If the presence of SCMS and the use of music CDR's isn't a concern to someone the AIWA might not be a bad deal. Dan

That shouldn't happen. The first format spaces the tape several seconds in. (I don't know what the problem was. Try it again, with the same tape and another tape, and see what happens.) The method I recommend is to start by recording two minutes of silence, then back up and record 5 seconds of pre-show noise at about 1:10 in, then back up and play it (just look at the levels, no headphones needed). Then back up to 1:00 and pause, start recording when appropriate. Seth

No; but if you do, you might be able to play the cd player through the dat to the digital amp. > One more question: on the 7-pin end, there is a digital/analog switch. > if i'm using this cable, doesn't it have to be digital? If you want to record from analog with the cable plugged in, set the switch to analog. (That uses the usual analog connector, of course.) Seth
