From: SCHUBIDOO@aol.com Subject: Need help with a DAT tape that wont load Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 12:24:45 EST Hello, Last Saturday I taped Steve Earle in Seattle. The tape turned out great. I used Audio Technica 853->Zefiro inbox->M1. I listened to it after the show and could tell it was rewinding weirdly. I didn't want to use a 90 meter tape but didn't want to switch tapes since I was stealthing. I should have just transfered it when I played it the first time. Now I can't get it to load. The tape keeps coming ou of the shell. It's rewound all the way to the beggining. Would any of you be willing to try to transfer this tape to another DAT or to a CD for me? I can send a trade along and blanks etc. By the way- I love the Zefiro! It really improvves the sound I get with the AT's and the DPA 4061's. Thanks, Kurt

I would appreciate > hearing anyone's opinions on these cables and my intended use for them. We've sold many hundreds of 7-pin cables over the three-plus years that we've offered them and have heard of exactly two shorting problems. In both cases the folks using the cable plugged the cable in while the decks were powered (a no-no), and then bent two pins on the far end of the cable (the side not plugged in) so that they shorted against each other. (You can't short two pins on a plug that's inserted into a deck.) We build our own 7-Pin plugs, perhaps the only company in the world other than Sony to do so. Our's are not as rugged as Sony's but then again they don't cost $50 per plug. (We could build a cable using Sony plugs just like the Oade Brothers' nice cable, but we feel that a simple cable shouldn't cost $100 or more.) We use good quality pins that can bend if you're not careful, but it takes a determined effort to break them -- you'd have to bend them back and forth quite a ways (30 degrees or more) more than once (like five or six times -- we've done it). If you just bend them just a little bit, you can just bend them back in place with no problems over many (more than twenty) cycles. In fact, until last month, we'd never heard of a pin breaking -- then a cable finally came back with a broken pin. To our knowledge it was broken off while outside of the deck due to serious mishandling. Our cables are assembled by technicians trained to meet US Department of Defense construction standards. We use high quality components including Mil-Spec teflon-insulated coaxial cable. We offer two types of 7-pin plugs: straight and right angle. We don't recommend that the straight plugs be used out in the field where the decks will be moved around. The right angle plugs though, are more rugged and that's what we recommend for use at concerts. We're glad to supply more varieties of 7-Pin cables than anyone, including Sony. There are many hundreds of our cables are out there serving folks well. With them you can connect your Sony portable DAT to just about any other deck. They come with our usual trial money-back offer -- even so we get very few back. Given a bit care, they'll serve you well for many years. > 2. Has anyone ever heard of a deck in the back of a chain, messing with the > quality of a recording in the front of a chain? This just doesn't seem > logical to me. It's very, very unlikely but I suppose it could happen in some weird circumstances. I hope this helped.
