Hello,
I will be on vacation (finally!) this coming week and will not be
regularly reading email. I think that DAT-heads should continue to
operate fine and I held off making some changes just to be sure.
There are some people who I owe replies on messages to dat-heads-owner,
I will probably get to those in a week. However, if you are having a
problem with "messages being rejected for MIME content" there are
instructions for several common mailers available by sending email
to "dat-heads-help@datheads.phish.net" The gist is you want to
send "plain text only" messages to DAT-heads. (People using the
current AOL software I have not been able to get a solution from
users asking AOL support about how to send text only, but there are
other ways to fix this for you. If someone does know how to do this,
please let us know.)

I think the last time kraftwerk performed together was back in 98 or so. I
found a few excellent live AUD tracks from a Rockslide performance on
Napster, so I am now looking for a full digital copy of this (or any) recent

any help would be great!

I just put up my old Microphones for auction on E-bay. I used the
microphones for about 1 year and just upgraded to AKG 480's so I don't need
them any more. These Mics are great for stealth recording, or just
recording bands that allow taping. I'm also including the battery box for
the microphones that works as a power supply, and the t-bar.

Yup, those posts about Post-it Notes compromising the
back layer of CDs seem to be correct. I've spent the day
looking for those little suckers on any my CDs. I've
discovered a couple of things. First, the longer the note
has been stuck to the CD, the more likely there will be
damage. More important - some of the adhesive stays on
the CD after the note is pulled off. It is the adhesive that does the
damage over time. Now I'm going through ALL
my CDs looking for adhesive residue and cleaning it off with Isopropyl.
Sh*t.
Bob
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This NOTE is to anyone that has EVER traded w/ me......
I have been doing the "Post-It" thang for a couple years now. I usually use
the very smallest "Post-it" that is made to write info on and stick to the
disc in a Tyvek sleeve. Or, I take a scissors and cut it to a sliver w/ just
enough room to write on......
No one has EVER complained.........
Also, I have never had a problem w/ any discs that I have received in this
manner. (plenty)
Every now and then, I will find a Mitsui in the stack that has a "blemish"
on it, but it's pretty rare.
I HAVE gotten several discs in the paper sleeves w/ the window that have
stuck to the window and when I removed them, some of the coating came off.
These were the ones that are silver on top, to the point of looking like
chrome, not Mitsui's, Kodak's or TY's......
And they looked like they had set inside of the sleeve for a REALLY long
time and maybe even gotten some condensation type moisture... from some
temperature swing during shipping??
Anyway, my point: If ANYONE has received ANY discs from me w/ a "Post-It" on
it and the "Post-It" damaged the disc in ANY way..... PLEASE DO NOT hesitate
to send me a note asking for a redo. I will GLADLY redo any discs that were
damaged because of my practice.
Guess that I will have to just switch to slips of plain paper to be safe. I
do NOT like receiving discs w/ ANY writing on them ANYWHERE and I DO NOT
send any discs out w/ writing on them anywhere. So plain paper it is....
All I gotta say is:
Keep Your Eyes Peeled For OYSTERHEAD dates!!
Peace,
Darrin
Subject: D7-No Input message
Looking for a little help here.
I recently purchased a D7 off of Ebay. Shortly after I received it the
open/hold switch broke. I then decided to take it to the Sony service center
here in Seattle to have it repaired. It was repaired, tuned up and
everything was deemed "up to factory specs".
I then bought a passive 7 pin I/O from Oade and a Hosa DRA-501 Digi cable.
I used the deck to record for the first time at the SCI shows at Seattle on
Wednesday and Thursday. I was patched into different DA-P1's on both nights
and was the first deck in the chain the first night and the only deck out on
Thursday.
On both nights at the beginning of each set I would hit record and play, I
would then get the message "write" and be receiving levels. Approximately
10-15 seconds after receiving levels I would receive a "no input" message. I
would then panic, checking connections out of the DA-P1, my 7 Pin and my
I/O. I believe that I would stop my deck and restart and still receive the
"no input" message. After 15-20 seconds of panic and checking connections I
would get the levels back and be fine for the rest of the set.
Does anyone know what the problem could be here? It happened all 4 times at
the beginning of each set both nights.
I think that this is all of the pertinent information.
Any help would be appreciated.
Gary Johnson
Bill; youre several releases behind on Toast software. Newer versions deal
with the annoying gaps that require manual over-riding. And now there is a
version 5.0 out which sounds neet. Personally, I am using TOast Deluxe 4.1.2
and its very good for CD copies. It supposedly handles/recognizes MP3s and
will convert them to the audio CD for standard playback on the fly. But I
crash when attempting to burn CDs that way. So I now convert my MP3s to
AIFFs and then burn CDs of the AIFFs. I use Quicktime to do the MP3 to AIFF
conversions BTW.
I also use Jam- which I like a lot. Its clean for burning CDs, allows
crossfades, allows for changing levels of individual tracks, and works nicely
with Peak for editing.
I am selling a DA20 that has treated me well for the past few years. It is
in great shape, cosmetically and mechanically; heads were replaced two
years ago and it has been used only lightly since then as I have been
focusing mainly on my CDR collection. It has been regularly cleaned by
myself and professionally lubed and serviced by the good folks at Pro
Digital.
It is running incredibly well these days and I would like to find a new
home for it as I am going to be in Europe all spring and travelling this
summer.
This is the perfect entry level deck; it blows away the Sony R300 in terms
of reliability and professional features. It is great for listening,
SCMS-free cloning, and/or hard drive transfers.
Yours for only $350 plus shipping (priced to sell). Reply via email.
Andy
I came out of the split B and Ks , hence the HHB at the end of the lineage.
I'll take the B and K sound over the Gefell tapes any day. I know this to be
true because when batteries crapped out on the deck in front of me, I was
switched into the Gefell rig at the end of the line. There was no comparison
in sound. Seth's rig rules the roost!!!
tunes on.
Ben was there solo acoustic, i caught the end of it, but missed the bulk of
a while since they are talking about making "burn to shine" which came out a
little while ago.
I don't know what you need specifically, but the general rule-of-thumb is to
use a fuse rated at 1.5 to 2 time the load current drawn by the device you
want to power. You will want to measure the peak current (probably during
tape loading) to size the fuse correctly.
Subject: U89 v. TLM-170
Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2001 11:44:12 -0500
The TLM 170's and U89's both use identical capsules, allowing the user to
select from the same 5 polar patterns. Both mics have attenuation and
rolloff settings available on the mic. The U89 has a -6dB pad, whereas the
TLM170 has a -10dB pad. The TLM170 can handle higher sound pressure levels
(SPL's) than the U89. The U89 is rated at 134 dB (140 with the pad) and the
TLM170 is rated at 144 dB (154 dB with the pad). I know the U89 has bass
rolloff, but I'm not certain of the frequency where it kicks in. On the
TLM170, the rolloff is 100Hz.
The TLM170 comes with a tiltable elastically suspended bracket to isolate
mechanical noise. I believe, the U89 requires purchase of the external shock
mounts which retail for over $600/pr. (Heck, if you're going to shell out
$6K for mics, what's another 10%.) The Neumann shock mounts can be used with
both the TLM170's and the U89's, but I believe they will only hold mics in
the upright vertical position (Dan correct me if I'm wrong here). This makes
a big difference if you are planning on recording using techniques where the
diaphragms need to be as close together as possible (Blumlein, M-S, etc.)
The main difference between the two mics is the circuitry. (TLM is Neumann's
abbreviation for TransformerLess Microphone.) The U89 design utilizes a
transformer, where the the 170 does not. For the pro's and con's associated
with this difference see the attached PDF from the DPA website. (If the
attachement won't come through, check the DPA website under Microphone
University -> Microphone Techology Guide -> Transformer v. Transformerless
Output.)
