No not the Brittany song... in the hectic mode of getting my M1 into the U2
show @NCRC last night, I accidentally switched the mic ATT to 0...distorting
the whole show!
Anybody out there have better luck, and would like to hook me up....PLEASE!
I will try again when they play tomorrow (Mon)
PS. Anybody know how to disable that switch..other than putting tape over
it.
Peace,

I have a great bootleg of John Cage conducting his masterpiece 4'33" it's
complete! If anyone with any hot Marcel Marceau DAT's would like to trade,
I'd gladly make a copy of this for you. . .
OH GOD IT"S ALL LIES! I don't have any 4'33, and the only John Cage I have in
my collection is from an LP of Sun Ra and Cage jamming. (now that is amazing
and weird and that's the truth.) I don't even think I want any mime-shows on
DAT, it does crack me up to think about stealthing in though.
I'm sorry for the outright deception, but it just seemed like a funny way to
start a sunday. If anyone actually has any of Cage's classical works, or any
really good classical DAUD DAT's I'd actually be into setting up some trades,
I have much to offer and it's not all loud rock and roll. . .
Also, If anyone has a great rig for transferring Analog Cassettes to digital,
please email me mailto:morst@itis.com so I can pick your brain, I have a lot
of master analog to bring over, and want to do it right, and only want to do
it once. I have two nakamichi BX decks, but they need repair before I can
continue, and I don't have a 24-bit converter yet. . .so I'm waiting

I've had some cutting out lately using the digi cable a friend made for me.
I've used it a while now but it started cutting out, i trimmed back the wires
and put em in a lil farther, my deck shorted out and i freaked. Ya can't read
the screen on my d7 unless ya look from a certain angle and it wont power up
when plugged in the wall, only works with batteries. Anyone help me out with
this?? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I'm looking for a copy of this tape to evaluate it for a tree I'm running
at my website, please let me know if you can help me out. This tape was
included in a batch of dats that Joe Doheny was selling a couple of weeks
ago, so if the person who bought them could reply that would be great as
well.
Take care,

Hi Tom. Actually Cool Edit is not the problem, your Soundblaster is what=
immediately caught my eye. You say you want to make exact clones of your=
tapes. This is not possible unless you buy a different sound card or buy=
a 2nd DAT deck. Soundblaster cards perform unnecessary resampling on the=
digital input/output, and this is heavily frowned upon in the digital=
trading community. You might want to check out the Zoltrix Nightingale as=
an add-on soundcard with reliable SPDIF at a low cost. Also there are=
often used decks for sale listed on this discussion group as well as ebay.=
FWIW in case you weren't already aware of this, you should inform your=
trading partners that you'll be cloning DAT>PC>DAT, as some traders would=
rather avoid this scenario. It is 100% possible to make perfect clones=
using this method but it's also possible to make mistakes if you do not=
have your recording/playback software and operating system configured=
properly.
Many unideckers try to find local traders/unideckers who they can build a=
symbiotic relationship with. You can try posting your location and see if=
anyone lives nearby who is also a unidecker. It also can't hurt to drag=
some friends into the DAT game, as long as there are 2 of you who own=
decks then you can start building a larger collection by hooking up to=
clone tapes.

I just want to point out that I have been using this card since I had
a PM7200/90 and I still use it in my G3 400MHZ using OS9 with no
problems. It does have one really good feature that will ensure that
it will stay in my computer. It does real time resampling that
actually sounds pretty good. That way, I can get my DATs into my
computer that I have recorded using the Sony Long Play mode with no
trouble. No other card that I have tried will do this. If you have LP
mode tapes, check this card out. I have used with BIAS Peak for the
most part. My suspicion is that it will work with new Macs, but might
require some fiddling. The biggest downfall of this card is that the
company never wrote drivers past 16 bits for mac, even though its a
20 bit card. Very frustrating customer support on this one!
Just my 02c.

Subject: DAT to computer

Folks,
I noticed messages from Bennett Forrest and Matt relevant to a general
issue I have. I make live recordings on my Sony DAT walkman and would like
to edit them on my computer and transfer them to CD. Currently, I use the
analog out into a "SoundBlaster Live!" card analog in. I edit in
SoundForge and then write out to CD. Naturally, I'd like to bypass the D/A
and subsequent A/D conversion. The Sony DAT has SPDIF 7 pin output. The
SoundBlaster has:
a. "2-pin Molex" connector which takes CD_SPDIF input
b. "Zoomed Video FS digital input via 4-pin Molex"
c. Digital-DIN
d. "SPDIF digital input via RCA jack, SPDIF consumer-interface compliant"
I also have a laptop with an optical SPDIF connector and access at work to
DAT drives hooked up to Linux and Windows machines. I can see a number of
options, none of which I know how to try :-(
1. Cable from Sony 7-pin connector to a connector on my SoundBlaster or
laptop (5 choices here!). Find some software that knows how to grab the
digital input stream from the right port and dump it to a .wav file.
2. Find some digital tape drive software that knows how to read the format
the DAT Walkman writes and read from the tape directly into a PC.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is anyone on this list taking
digital output from a DAT into a PC for editing? I'll be happy to create a
FAQ for this if I get a wide enough range of responses.
Adam

Hi, I have available two Placebo recordings for a trade which nicely fit on
2CDs (either audio or SHN format).
Placebo: Bochum, Germany, 03/15/01 - 55'
FM Cable(Germany)>DAT>OPTICAL>SHN>CD
Placebo: Dusseldorf, Germany, 03/18/01 - 91'
OKMIIR>A3(-20db/bass-filter off)>MZR90 Minidisc>Optical>SHN>CD
Complete show, no songs cut, nearly no audience noise,
unfortunately some slight hiss during very quiet parts cause
mic level was set to low, otherwise excellent sound !
Complete setlist and MP3 sample available on request.
I'm looking for recent Placebo recordings and or U2 recordings from their
current US tour.

Hey Now!
My buddy Murph can NOT make it to the last 4 shows of the upcoming Phil &
Friends Tour in the Northeast. He mail ordered, but can not get the time off
work.
He does not have Internet access, so I am doing him a favor. (I don't have
the tix, he does.)
He wants to sell all 4 tix in a package deal for face value. You pay the
shipping of your choice.
Please send me a note offlist and I can put you in touch w/ him. Seems like
at least 2 of these shows are sold out.

Made an AMAZING tape of Glenn last night at the Voodoo Lounge in Bayside,
NY. Sony M1 DAT / OKMIIr mics. 6 feet from left stack. This could be
the best tape I ever make.
I'm looking to trade for other excellent recorded Glenn masters from the
last couple years. I only have 1 DAT deck, so I can only offer a cd-r
version right now (either cd-audio master, SHN master or raw dump from DAT,
your choice). I have a Midiman Audiophile 2496 digital soundcard with
SPDIF-In Clock Sync, so there will not be any unnecessary hardware
resampling.
Email for more details. Amazing show. How this guy isn't selling out the
Meadowlands I have no idea.

Was hoping someone out there has the copy I need. I am burning my current
copy to cd, and notice the 1st set sounds as if it has a cassette generation
in there and set two has a small cut in Way to Go Home and also some issues
where the tape loses the left and right channel at times (mainly during Way
to go Home). Also, no encores on the set II tape. The encores were played
on the Deadhour back in 92, but was hoping to upgrade this analog cassette
version of the encores with the complete soundboard. My set II is a
beautiful Digital Sound board with just the flaws and missing encores, so I
know a good version exists. I would only be interested in the Soundboard
for this show. I have lots to trade. Please get in touch if you have what
I need.
