Does anyone have this DAT set that made the rounds about 5 years ago. I just
listened to it and it seems one of my tapes is blank. If I remember
correctly this set was assembled by compiling soundboard sets that appeared
on Dead reels of non-dead bands that opened for them and played around SF
about 69. Airplane, Santana etc. Anyone have it please email me.

I cut the red dot out of the i on a bag of Tostidos. It's opaque red.
It
does a nice job both turning your mini mag red and dimming the intensity
a bit as
well. Want bright white instead, just remove the red dot.

Fellow DAT Heads,
I am selling my 3700 to anyone who needs repair parts. The unit does not work
(tapes won't load up), and the repair technician at Leo's Audio in Berkely told
me it needs a new main board. Every other module, including the head assembly
was checked out to be OK. Panasonic is no longer supplying repair parts for
3700's, so this might be a way of keeping yours running. The repair technician
told me that the unit, when it was able to intermittently run, had a very low
error rate. The hour meter is just barely past the "0" mark, and I read it as
200 hours.
I am including a factory service manual, so hey, maybe you could find the fault
on the main board and have a whole second deck. Also including the owner's
manual, remote, and rack mount kit.
$275 plus shipping, COD, UPS.

Subject: anyone to tape Alphaville 4-13-01 SLC?
Date: Sat, 7 Apr 2001 18:49:26 EDT
hey everyone
I'm not joking, but Alphaville (yes, that one, who did "Forever Young" to be
played at zillions of proms and balls in the '80s) are going to perform at
some venue in Salt Lake City on April 13 '01, I remember that tickets were
still available for about $25.00. Will any dathead tape them? I do have some
analog tapes of gigs they did in '96; they never really toured in the '80s
and have zillions of songs that most people have never heard (and probably
never will) that they do perform in addition to "Forever Young" and "Big in
Japan."
Anyway if anyone can tape or find a taper for that show, please email me.
Thanks
Mike

which are betty boards, which are digital copies, etc.?

I happened to run into some extra cash this weekend and I am considering
purchasing a matched pair of mk21s with the loose change. The lowest price
I have found so for from Masterpiece AV and Posthorn is $645 /ea plus $40
for the matched pair. Does anyone know a lower price. I have not checked
Sonic Sense yet...I guess that will be my next stop.
I vaguely remember someone posting to this list with some 'specials' for a

I am in the need of a better Ticket/s for the first night of Phil's Sunrise
show....my vision isn't that good any more %^}
No really... I like being in the front at any concert that I am at...and for
this one I would especially love to be upfront and center...and since I have
over 2 grand collected for The Unbroken Chain foundation that I will try and
turn in at the show, I wouldn't mind handing the money to Phil himself....as
he takes the stage!
What a thank you gift that would make to him for coming down here!
I already have tickets in Sec 1 Row L right on the Isle, in which to trade
for the up front and personal Ticket/s that I seek!
Buy the way I wouldn't mind a trade for the second night as well, but Friday
the 13th is important that I am in the front!

few high-end rigs....I'd really like to see some more tapers join and

Well, this unit has sat untouched since it's return from Pro Digtal back
in November. I haven't even opened the box. This can only mean that I do
not have a need for 4 home decks. :-)
Paul says that I can get $450 for the deck. I do have the 5 year
extended warranty for it as well. I believe it has just under 3 years
left. I would like $450 for the deck + warranty.
If you are in or near VT and want to see the deck, you are more than
welcome to.

Subject: Heads up for Phillips CDR-880 owners
Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2001 12:42:41 EDT
Hi all,
Personally, I was never crazy about the Phillips 880 standalone CD
burners and have since switched to a few Tascam CDRW700s, which I'm pleased
with. However, I still have my 880 and have been using it as a CD player in
my office. I recently had an experience with it that may be of interest to
all owners, especially ones with extended service contracts.
When the Phillips 880 standalone CD burner was introduced a few years
back, it became extremely popular among DATheads, in big part due to it's
abilty to use inexpensive computer media. The 880 was unique among consumer
models, because one could calibrate a consumer disc, manually open the drawer
and switch to an inexpensive computer disc, and then record. I'm sure many
880 owners here still are utilizing this feature to save themselves media
costs. I did too back then, especially since my use was primarily for running
high volume copies of one song demos for various artists that I work with. I
was often going through several hundred blank discs per week and the media
savings was significant.
Like many of you at that time (1998-99), I purchased an 880 for this
reason alone. I also knew it would recieve heavy use, so I purchased a
service contract so I'd be covered for a few years.
Recently, my 880 began showing signs of needing maintenance (was
occasionally mistracking on playback), so I took it in for repair under
service contract. Much to my surprise, during the repair, my unit was
modified so that it no longer allows the "switch trick" feature. After
speaking with the service center I was informed that its routine to modify
the processor in this unit and that they refuse to modify it back to its
original functionality.
This brings up several "grey areas," including the politics of digital
media and copying, but I'll refrain from going there, since it didn't apply
to my particular usage. But I did want to give a heads up to all you 880
owners with service contracts. If you bring that unit in for servicing, be
prepared to kiss the "switch trick" goodbye. Alan
