Does anyone know the compatibility issues with these 2 machines?? Does the
Sony M-1 And RMD-3K even work together??? I've just had an M-1 in my
possession and it seem's louder in volume when it's loading the tape up and
engaging it to the head then the D-7 that I own. I'm looking at purchasing
an M-1, there smaller and more stealth worthy, but have no experience with
them compared to D-7.
Any suggestions??

No...don't do this. There will most definitely be small jumps between tracks.
Break the WAV data into separate files of less than or equal to 74 minutes, for each disc. Then break up the tracks with CDWave (www.cdwave.com). CDWave will create cuesheets for you. These cuesheets can be burned with CDRWin (www.goldenhawk.com). Discs will be seemless between tracks, as they should be.

Without knowing anything about your particular drive model, I'd say probably because Easy CD Creator is screwy with audio. That program is best used for burning data discs only.
For audio, I would recommend burning with Feurio (www.feurio.com).
If the problem persists, I would recommend upgrading your drive's firmware (www.firmware.fr.st). If this doesn't solve the problem, e-mail me and I'll assist you the best I can.
Also, be sure to listen to the audio discs you're burning at 8x. Some funny things sometimes happen at speeds that fast.

There are certainly better uses for this forum, but inquiring minds want to
know:
I have never seen on a tape list where a show was recorded on 8 Track tape,
but I know that they used to make portable 8 Track walkmans and I'm sure one
of them had a built in mic. Did people ever record shows on 8 Track tapes? If
so, how long could you record for on 1 tape/track? Any info is greatly
appreciated.

for DAT > CD i have found Wavelab to be the best editing and burning program
(it does not require importing the file into a separate application as it
will burn cd's directly) - you can take a long wave file, set track id's
(either using visual editor or manually by hitting the space bar when tracks
start/end while transferring the DAT audio into the pc), and then open up
the cd-burn playlist and set track order (you can rearrange the order of
tracks and/or delete tracks and add tracks from other files - like adding
filler to fill up the cd or cutting out long tuning segments to save
space) - also it will only burn cd's in DAO mode to red-book standards as it
is intended for cd mastering purposes.
re: Soft Boys - their first(?) show in austin (sxsw) was being recorded by a
nice mic-setup directly in front of the sound board - i assume it was the
record label (matador) recording as it was a matador showcase and it
appeared that all bands' sets were being recorded (mogwai, steve malkmus,
etc.)

Unless you plan to make mp3s or shn files of each track, why chop a show
into wav files by track? Its way faster to just transfer as one wav file
and use the cuesheet approach that someone else replied about.
Your hard drive with thank you for that.

<am I simply cutting and pasting segments =
<(using Cool Edit or SoundForge) =
<that will each be tracks for my CD?
basically, yes.
however you need to avoid a few common mistakes..:
1. if you care at all for the stuff you have,
you should not simply burn an audio cd from it
but also create a data cd for your archive. =
many reason for this!! the way to go is shn, =
but with the low cost of blanks the wavs themselves =
can also be stored to a data disc.
(note: wav-files are larger than audio because audio =
lacks error checking data; ome reason why it is such =
a bad format for an archive)
2. make sure you create segments of =
*complete* cd-sectors or else you'll get =
tiny ( <1/75 sec) pauses between tracks! =
cooledit lets you control it with a bit =
of care but for splitting a file up cdwave =
is easier to use. the number of samples in =
the resulting wav-file must be a =
multiple of 588. (a magic number!)
3. be sure to burn 'dao' or else =
you'll get small pauses ( <1/10 sec, =
depending on the player) for the track seek time.
4. be sure to tell your software =
to burn the tracks without the normal 2sec =
pauses or else you know what you'll get, right? =
< be sure to use disc-at-once if you do not =
<want to have 2 seconds of silence between tracks.
close ;-)
<I find it more efficient to =
<keep the whole .wav intact, using CDWAV to set
<track breaks and create a CDRWIN =
<cue sheet, then burn the disc with CDRWIN.
sorry, but this doesn't sound like good advice to me.
if you don't want to create backup data discs (why?!?!?!)
or mp3 and never want to trade the music, well ok. =
but imo the golden rule is: never extract audio twice! =
:):):)

This problem is obviated using the method I recommended.

What in the world does this have to do with it? Using this very efficient
method in no way interferes with making backup data discs or mp3 or
trading. I think you may have failed to grasp the concept of using CDWAV
and CDRWIN. It is a fast, efficient way to create seamless _audio_ discs
of live music, with separate tracks as desired and no gaps.
> but imo the golden rule is: never extract audio twice!
Again, this has nothing to do with using CDWAV and CDRWIN.

Searched the digest archive and didn't see a mention of this. Thought
it might be of interest to the group. The description could've been written
without all the bootlegging clichés. Only available in Japan.
This is from an article on Cnet. For the full story go here:
http://www.cnet.com/electronics/0-3622-8-5249901-3.html?tag=st.ce.3622-8-524
9901-1.txt.3622-8-5249901-3
A bootlegger's dream
Aiwa MM-X500 Portable MP3 Recorder
Pros: Ridiculously convenient; compression on the go has never been
simpler.
Cons: Storage media can get pricey; not small enough to hide inside
shoe.
Price: $106
Manufacturer: Aiwa
You know the setup: you just scored front-and-center tickets to the
exclusive Da Pump concert at the Makuhari Messe convention hall, and
you want to bring back something a little more exciting than a T-shirt.
Sure, you could record the concert with a MiniDisc recorder strapped to
your leg, but if you ever want to share that musical booty, it'll take a few
hours of compressing and a whole lot of hassle to make an MP3 from it.
The solution? Aiwa's MM-X500 Portable MP3 Recorder, which lets you jack
in a microphone and record the music directly as an MP3 file with no
muss, fuss, or moving parts. The system uses MultiMediaCards (MMC) and
includes two slots for those extralong concerts. Even though you're limited
to
128kbps recordings and a slightly pokey parallel-cable interface, you can
have the
full evening's performance on your PC (and presumably online) before your
ears have even stopped ringing. Don't get caught!
Thanks!

i second that...why take on extra work of breaking a wavefile into seperate
files for each track, and have to deal with issues of pops/clicks/gaps if
not breaking up the file into proper sector sizes (yes you can use special
software to do that right but many people don't even know that!)
it is much easier to just keep the one file intact (if it fits on one CD)
and write a simple cuesheet that maps out where the track marks should be
burned
you can write a cuesheet with a simple text editor, or something like CDRCUE
that makes it easier (http://www.dcsoft.com/prod03.htm)
i use both CDRWIN and EAC for burning (mostly EAC) since both of them
support cuesheets for burning - and since EAC is free (postcardware) it is
pretty easy to recommend (the fact that it is the most accurate thing out
there for extracting audio is another of it's strong points - all praise EAC
and it's author andre!)
seems like everyday i run into people who have never heard of EAC, so excuse
the "commercial", but if you're interested, here is where you can get it and
learn how to use it

Greetings DAT-Heads,
I just recently purchased a near new Fostex D-5 and am looking for a new
home for my MidiMan Co3 and Sony D-3. The MidiMan has only been used only a
few times and is in perfect condition. The D-3 plays tapes fine however has
a bad spot on the head. The good news is Sony still works on D-3's and they
have a flat rate fee to repair them at 130.00. The prices are below.
MidiMan CO3 100.00
Sony D-3 100.00
I am asking 200.00 firm for both of the units. I am also not going to sell
the items separately. The deal is for both units only. You won't be
disappointed.

there's been no Tool trading community. I guess it didn't really exist
