From: Ron Dalton <RDalton@najarian.com> Subject: FS: B&K/DPA 4011's and accessories.... Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2001 12:06:52 -0400 Dalton clearance sale! I'm on my way to stealthing down, so my 4011's are on the hit list. I'm pairing down to the 4022's. With that thought in mind, here is the deal. I'm selling the 4011's (orig. price $4500), plus the Audio Magic Sceptor II cables (orig. price $150) and the AT8410 shockmounts (orig. price $100) all for $3300 firm. I'm losing almost $1500 in a little over 2 yrs. All of this equipment was bought new from Sonic Sense (11/98) and I have reciepts to verify. Alot of you know the sound that these incredible mics produce and I hate to part w/ them, but..... Either way, thats the offer - hit me when your ready! BTW - the 4011's are a FACTORY MATCHED PAIR, they cost me more, but they are totally the same mic. Thanks All. Ron Dalton

If so, is it > a hassle-free process? > Is it easy/cheap to get a SONY 7-pin S/PDIF cable? Since the Terratec EWX 24/96 only has optical TOS-Link I/O (no SPDIF coax), you'll need a coax-to-TOS-link converter first. I think you can get 7-pin to SPDIF cables from Core Sound and/or Oade. You may find a cheap coax/TOS-link converter at your local radio shack. btw: I think I'll buy a Terratec EWX 24/96 sometime next week. I'll report to the list how it works.

Might this introduce unwanted errors, glitches and such? Thanks!! Len

From: Joshua <sprung598@yahoo.com> Subject: ultra-fatty, superdank windscreens Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2001 12:54:01 -0600 I've got a pair of DPA windscreens that I've used with great success...the glaring exception is last years Telluride Bluegrass Festival, where we walked with mucho windnoise on our tapes. I'm aware of the tradeoff between loss of quality and thicker windscreens. What would be the next step up for wind protection for a pair of Neumann KM140s? I've decided that I'd like phasey, flat, wind-free tapes, rather than my sub rattling pictures off the walls whenever there's a gust of wind on my recordings.... From: "Sieving, Charles E." <CESieving@HHLAW.com> Subject: 4/24 DC PHIL Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2001 10:50:49 -0400 Does anyone have an extra taper ticket for 4/24 Phil at DAR Constitution Hall in DC? I have two tix in Sec. Q Row C, one of which I could trade for a taper ticket. Quality copy of the show will be included in the trade, of course. Otherwise, is there anyone out there that may have room for my M1 (I have an active 7-pin, which should make things easy)? Thanks. I've much to trade, a little Paco, but a LOT of other stuff, please let me know if you have anything to trade. BTW, he is on tour right now, and I HIGHLY recommend checking him out. He only comes to the States once in a while, I'm going to FL to see him on Miami. Peace David http://www.imnworld.com/bin/events_lister.cgi?Artist=PACO+DE+LUCIA
From: Andrew Nemeth <azn@nemeng.com> Subject: DPA 4051 vs 4060 Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 05:59:27 +1000 I have been using the miniature DPA 4060 mics for ambient location sound recording for 4 months now. Although they sound very good 90% of the time, they still have a bit too much self-noise for the really quiet stuff. So I am thinking of getting the larger diaphram, quieter spec DPA 4051. As I don't do rock'n'roll, high SPL issues aren't a consideration here. Anyone else use these? Opinions / gotchas? Too sensitive for general use? Too delicate for the rough-and-tumble of location work? Regds, Andrew Nemeth <http://4020.net> -> photos, 360=B0 panoramic vrs, sounds <http://nemeng.com> -> vr java applets, leica faq, tech info
From: Matthew Giller <mtgiller@yahoo.com> Subject: U2 DAT Master-Portland, OR (4/15/2001) Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2001 13:32:09 -0700 (PDT) I recorded U2's performance at the Rose Garden in Portland, OR last night. I found a sweet spot dead center, between the soundboard and heart ramp. There were very few people in this area. So, I would recommend it for anyone taping shows in the future. Here is information about the taping set-up: SP-CMC-10 Hyper-Cardioids>SP-BPF-2>Sony D8 The recording turned out nicely with minimally close crowd noise. I am looking for other DAT recordings by U2 from the Elevation Tour in trade for this show. Please contact me if you have recorded a show or have plans to record future shows. Thanks for the space! From: MadManMead@aol.com Subject: Re: anti-virus software and cdr Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2001 16:58:14 EDT david <slowtrain@mediaone.net>: >is it necessary to disable virus protection software when recording to the >hard disc or burning a disc? 'ppreciate in advance any advice. It's *necessary,* but it's definitely a good idea, especially when doing S/PDIF transfers. It is in your best interest to shut down all unnecessary programs when executing an operation of this nature. The goal is to prevent anything from "popping up" and using system resources while you're in the middle of a critical operation. The virus checker (I assume it's on a schedule) can be activated after you're finished. If you have an SCSI burner, you don't have to worry about programs running in the background, however, if you have an IDE burner like a good number of us, shutting down unnecessary programs (especially ones that tend to perform resource consuming operations spontaneously) decreases your chances of buffer underrun. In my experience, running certain programs while burning is okay (word processor, "light" web browsing), but that varies depending on your system specs. It is always prudent to avoid *launching* any programs during the burning process. I highly recommend that you do not run anything during a S/PDIF transfer though. Here are some helpful tips: www.celestialaudio.com. It doesn't cover everything, but it does cover a lot. Hope this helps. -David

Mark Knopfler's management doesn't bother if fans tape the concerts. But they are not ready to provide a written autorization or proof about that. It has been their policy for 20 years now... But, when using the Seagate DDS drive and DAT2Wav (which writes to the HD as a background process), anything goes. I can edit files, play audio files, burn CDs, etc. This is all using Windows NT40 Workstation and dual SCSI controllers on a fairly spiffy system. Your mileage may differ with other hardware or operating systems. There is no modem in my audio computer, so can't say for sure about that - but better be safe than sorry. From: "Danny McCarthy" <mccar24@yahoo.com> Subject: Roger Waters 8/04/99 and more... Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2001 22:12:43 -0400 Hi, I was able to tape Roger Waters 8/4/99 at Great Woods (Tweeter), but unfortunately I missed the first three songs of the show. I was wondering if anyone here taped it and would be willing to either setup a trade or b/p the beginning portion for me? Now that I am groveling I might as well go the whole nine yards and ask if anyone happened to get an in-house FM DAT copy, that is my source. It would be great if an AUD source turned up that was taped under the Pavilion though. After I get the whole show together I can offer it up for blanks/postage. Also, while I am at it, does anyone know if Robert Plant will be allowing taping on his upcoming spring tour? Finally, anyone have an SBM-1 laying around that they no longer get any use out of? Thanks for any help! -Dan BWT - Legion of Mary 7/22/74 60mtr - believe the source is SBD > MReel > PCM > DAT(s)
