I believe it was the 2496 that I returned. (Digital I/O, TOSLINK and Coax, and analog input only, I think). I have a Mac G4, and the card would not clock to the input signal. In fact, you could not change the input clock rate manually either. It was clear how this was supposed to happen, as all you had to do was click a button in the control panel and make your changes. That button was always greyed out. Midiman was reasonably helpful before I bought my card, and slightly helpful for a short time afterwards. (Though the e-mail guy said I needed to change the input clock speed to adequately record a 32 MHz recording, the phone guy told me I didn't, and described the appropriate clocks to me in reverse of how they actually are.) After that, no one would respond to e-mail questions, and I wasn't going to waste time with more phone calls. It is possible that some aspects of my computer were impacting the card, but it seems an extreme response. Virtual Memory? Putting the card in the wrong slot? They did suggest I move the card to another slot, but they also suggested I buy all new cables and reinstall everything, and all sorts of standard debugging tips, without actually claiming to ever have seen this sort of problem before. (I say that only because the RME card also did not work on first installation. However, in the manual, it says that it will not work in slot 2 on a Mac G4, which is where i put it. After I moved it, it worked like a charm.) Also, the Midiman is incompatible with ProTools. They claimed that ProTools had a proprietary interface they couldn't build too. On the RME web pages, it actually lists the programs it is known to be compatible with. I thought it almost smacked of false advertising to not let people know your card was incompatible with major market software. I was pretty unhappy with my dealings with Midiman, though not with Core Sounds. They shipped my products quickly and gave me no hastles on my returns. I also love my binaural mics. However, I can't personally recommend the Dio. Your Mileage May Vary, of course. neal

I got something almost identical to the described unit above recently for $49.95 from Radio-Shack direct order; Catalog #61-2801 ... called "Portable Power Station" and comes with a 7.5 amp hour 12 volt L/A GEL battery inside, has 1.5, 3, 4.5, 6, 9 volt .5 amp receptacles + two 12 volt 'cig' sockets rated at 10 amps combined. All power patch cords AND universal power plugs fit inside the unit's hinging rear compartment, but the separate AC charger unit is rated only for USA type 120 volt 60 cycle operation. Has a shoulder strap and handle for carrying around. Also has two charge status LEDs + Low/OK battery reading LEDs; also an ON/OFF master rocker switch. Can be recharged off any 12 volt AUTO CIG lighter socket with the engine running in less than an hours time! Very Cool. This seems a nice little unit at the right price. Definitely worth a look for those who must have dependable power for running all kinds of portable electronic gear. Should have no problem with running just about any portable DAT deck from 8 (the DA-P1?) to 25 hours (D100/M1); runtime always depends on the model of DAT deck and modes of operation. DOWNSIDE: This 'portable power' Q-T weighs in at just over 7 LBS!!! ALTERNATE DAT POWER SYSTEM: For a D100/M1 battery system that will carry the DAT deck + battery together (dat has clear window for seeing the LCD and operating buttons while inside the case) AND run the deck for over 25 hours, consider Sonic Studios BC-1W DAT battery system. See: http://www.sonicstudios.com/batsys98.htm BIG UPSIDE: The BC-1W uses 4 C alkaline cells (go everywhere and get batteries for this except AFRICA; There use BD-1W for D cell and get 55+ hours runtime). ALMOST FORGOT TO MENTION: The BC-1W with the DAT deck INSIDE weighs in at ONLY 2.2 LBS! No noise when running. But it does make a fair amount of noise when loading a tape (and takes a bit of time to do it, as well). If you plan on shutting it off and then turning it back on, expect some noise (but that's relative - probably not noticeable if the audience is talking, but bad if there are spycatchers about). Jeff

You, and anyone thinking about > buying this drive, might want to think about reconsidering. . . GBOSS, The drive you are referring to on this website is the 3.5" form factor drive for $205. The drive I am offering has been upgraded with rails and a 5.25" bezel. All SGI DAT drives are on 3.5" sleds or in 3.5" external cases. I have spent the time and money to upgrade the drive it fit nicely into a PC. I think your comments are inaccurate. Thanks, Robert =============================== I bought one of the $200 drives and ordered rails and a 5.25 bezel for it. The rails plus bezel cost around $32. So, if the drive you are selling is new, then $245 is not a bad deal, if it is used you can keep it. Yesterday afternoon, I popped a DAT in one of my DA-20's and noticed some diginoise coming from the right channel. So, I did the typical "error test" (excuse me if this not the proper terminology) and the display read "00 94". Is this a dirty head issue or does the head need realigned?
