I have approximately 90 DATs that need a new home.
About half are Phish shows (from early 90's to the
present) and the rest are assorted Phish side
projects, jazz, funk, improv rock,
and bluegrass. They are broken down
into blocks of thirty tapes. This is a perfect starter
collection for a newbie/unidecker who is interested
in a wide variety of bands from the jamband community.
Please contact me for the full list
and details.

PLEASE READ!!! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ANYBODY
ATTENDING THE NEXT FEW WSP SHOWS!!!
I attended the 4/18 Atlanta Phil show the other night.
I was taping along with Josh Wunsch from Athens, GA
and Todd Seale from Virginia. We were all patched out
of one long daisychain.
I, being the occasional absent-minded person I am,
left TWO OF MY OADE CABLES (one ACTIVE, one PASSIVE -
has a yellow tape mark on the end) after the show. My
M1 was at the end of the chain. I was front row for
the show, but set up my DAT at the beginning and
switched tapes during set break. But after the show
was over, I didn't go back directly to their rig to
retrieve my DAT and cables.
When I got up their after "schmoozing" for 10-15
minutes, my M1 was still there. Josh was gone, but
Todd was still present.
I retrieved my DAT, but in the process I absent-
mindedly left my Oade cables there.
Now I am not posting this to put blame on anybody. I
have nobody to blame BUT MYSELF!!! Please don't
reply here or privately telling me that "Well, you
should have known better" or anything like that. I
admit I am at fault at leaving my cables.
If anybody is going to be TAPING at the next 3-4 WSP
shows (Knoxville, Raleigh, Macon, Savannah), PLEASE
ASK AROUND THE TAPERS' SECTION FOR JOSH WUNSCH. Ask
him if he happened to pick up BRIAN KELLEY'S OADE
CABLES from the Atlanta Phil show. If so, could he
PLEASE snail mail them back to me at my address.
REPLY TO ME PRIVATELY IF ATTENDING ANY OF THE NEXT 3-4
WSP SHOWS!!! I can send you my address to where he
can send them, if he has him. I will get a hold of
Todd later since he's not doing WSP tour and heading
back to Virginia.
If either of them do NOT have them, well I'll have to
kick myself in the butt for a while! (D'ohhh!!! ;)
Yes, again I should have been more careful!!! I'll be
praying to Icculus that either Josh or Todd are
holding them for me.
Thanks for the space.
Peace and music,
Brian

Guy,
I think we are talking about two different rechargeable units. The
power pack I saw on the web does not hold cables nor does it have
cigarette sockets and it measures less than 5" by 2". I do not know
the weight of the Ni-MH power pack but it seems like it would be less
than 7 lbs.

Ha! That's a good one. This show was without question the worst sound
quality GD show I ever attended. It was the first show of the
GD/Dylan/Petty tour and Dylan/Petty were unintelligible. A couple of
other tapers and I were planning on taping it off internal FM, as they
were using this to send the sound to the repeater speakers. At the last
minute they realized that the FM band they used for this (99.9 FM at the
time) was interfering with a local radio station and they had to quickly
roll out cables. We were left hanging... I found a very mediocre
cassette copy of this show a few years later as I couldn't find anyone
on tour who taped it. I'm sure it's out there but don't hold your
breath for quality. Most folks seemed to blow this show off and start
their tour in Alpine Valley instead.
Speaking of the IFM tapes from this tour, the "Sbd" copies that
circulate of the 7/7/86 RFK show are most likely the IFM tapes we made
and they sound very nice. As for the 7/4/86 Buffalo show - this one was
definitely audience taped by a bunch of folks. I never did find any
other IFM tapes from this tour, as it was a relatively new trick at the
time (they had been doing it at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley for a
while to send the sound to the speakers on the nearby soccer field for
folks who couldn't get in...didn't take tapers long to catch on and
capitalize...;-)

Yo Neal,
You returned a M-audio DIO 2448 not a AP 2496 (if it had TOSlink jacks).
Len sold me an AP 2496 that has performed flawlessly for me in a Win2Kpro
environment. I wouldn't know about the Mac issues surrounding your inablity
to use the external source (DAT or MD) to clock the data.
In my set up, I record at 44.1KHz on my M1 then use Sound Forge XP 4.5 to
record data/adjust volume via filter if necessary and CDwave to cut the
tracks. Clean digital transfers....in the purest sense!

Does anyone know anything about the Teac DAP-20? Is

for info, but it's out of production. How old is it?
many thanks,

>>
It's strange how many of these decks are still coming out of the woodwork
lately!
Very vintage at about 10 years old (or young depending on usage hours); not
supported by TEAC anymore especially for getting the $160+ costing dual
voltage batteries. (Alternate "CD" portable powering system for this at:
http://www.sonicstudios.com/batsys98.htm )
WAS (or still is) one of the most dependable DAT transports ever conceived; a
top loader to boot. Very nice Analog processing circuitry with Dual Power
Rails; problem was it took a dual battery to achieve this feature and this
was a fault for dependable battery running. Would tend fry the batteries if
left charging for over 6-8 hours.
Deck was manufactured by CASIO for TEAC/DENON. Very similar to CASIO DA-7
and DENON DTR-100P models that used the same general
chasis/transport/battery, but had dual 1/4" mic inputs instead of the Teac's
dual XLR Mic inputs. Preamplifier on Teac is different than CASIO/DENON, but
both versions are only so-so and these decks will not support 44.1k recording
(or even playback?), only has 48K I/O porting ability.
A good stay at home deck with limited applications if still running, but
don't hold your breath for getting parts anymore.

Leonard Lombardo

Greetings all.
I was hoping to find a kind soul who would help me out.
I am searching for a copy of The Grateful Dead playing Memorial Stadium on
June 13, 1994 in Seattle. According to the "tapes in circulation" data
base, SBD's are in circulation.
I would be interesting in finding either(SBD or AUD) or both on DAT.
I do not have cloning capabilities so I will need a b&p. I can offer to
spin down to disc, if cloned @ 44.1, and offer it on various lists.
If anyone can help or assist in pointing me in the right direction I would
be grateful.
Have a wonderful weekend.

There's also the whine of the backlight, which sometimes comes through on
the recording, so I would avoid using it. I've been looking for a little
hooded minilight to use in its place.
To combat the loud loading noise, I keep the recorder in the padded case
I carry everything around in, so that if it stops unexpectedly (e.g. dead
batteries), it won't be disruptive.

Keep in mind that there is also a Delta DiO 2496, which I think is
different from the newer Audiophile 2496 card. Of course, they probably
both use the same software, which may very well be the problem.
(Midiman/M-Audio does not seem to have much Mac expertise.)

I thought the control panel was a mess as well (when I tried a Delta 2496
back in August). I thought they would have fixed it by now.

ProTools isn't compatible with anything but Digidesign hardware (or
rather, needs at least one Digidesign card), with the exception of the
old PowerMix version and the new Pro Tools 5 FREE version, which will use
any Sound Manager-compatible card. They probably figured anyone thinking
of using Pro Tools would be aware of that limitation. Still, it would be
nicer to be clear about it.
