It was first time I used it. Extremely low levels usually is the result of a dead battery. Be sure that the battery inside the box is fresh. The battery discharges in under two weeks if you leave the mics plugged into the battery box. > Does anybody else have any other idea why the level was so low? I suggest that you try the setup at home to see if you can duplicate the problem. If you find one, feel free to send it in for repair. > Also... I'm afraid I'm going to rip the wire off If by "Y-adapter," you mean the Mini-XLR plug, please call us and we'll advise you how to correct this. I hope this helps! From: kmstraker@mindspring.com Subject: M1 and 6V power / Trade for Phil 4/20 Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 17:04:12 -0400 Hello all, I saw a thread in a recent post that said that it was ok to use a 6v rechargeable on a 4.5v M1. If you use a 6V power source you will fry a small switch in your deck. You will then be unable to get power from any source, even internal batteries. I have had to have my M1 repaired twice in the last two years with this problem. Finally I dumbed up and bought a battery with the correct voltage. Prodigital has fixed my deck fast and fairly cheap (<$100) both times. Trade offer: looking for PHIL 4/20 Have 4/19 Asheville to trade. Sonic Sense rig:mbho603a/ka500>ad2k>V2 (asheville)
From: "Gary Davis" <gdavis@loop.com> Subject: NO NO NO! Reply-to: gdavis@loop.com Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 14:41:37 -0700 Don't use the mic on "High," your recording will be ruined. Usually, you should use the LINE input with core sound mics. Perhaps, as Len suggested, your battery was dead. --G

Two comments: - Carry a $25 radio shack multimeter - Test out the gear in your car and do a load check recording your voice or the radio. Even if you have to break it all down to get the gear in By using these two, you eliminate many of the headaches. (Yes, a multimeter is not a "load" and loose connections happen. But the latter you can fix and with non-Li batteries the discharge curve is such that usually the potential with a high-resistance load still tells you something useful). In this case, I would suggest replacing the battery and playing with all the settings until you can make a decent recording of your home stereo. Then take it out to tape a local taping friendly band and try all the settings. Then stealth with the core sounds. Good luck... Sean

While this is true of CSBs, I find the CSCs significantly less sensitive and usually the -20dB mic input is right for fairly loud shows. I believe I even used mic input with no atten for recording Arlo Guthrie with the Seattle Symphony. I have frequently used the CSBs with line in on the D100 for loud shows but I remain suspicious that there is a problem with high frequency response doing this. I don't have equipment to test this theory, however. Len? I know you recommend doing this but the tapes always sound more bassy and muddy than when I use mic in. I'm thinking -20dB mic in plus an additional in-line attenuator might be preferable to using line in. -- Mark Mayhle mark@mayhle.com

Where i have dug up the encore for this show it is only on analog and is 2nd or 3rd Gen.. Before seeding this show out to the Etree i wanted to obtain the cleanest highest quality copy of the encore before doing so.. If anyone can help with SHNs or whatever please email me ASAP... thanks, stuart gerber stuart@mindspring.com http://stuart.home.mindspring.com Etree.org RC5 Team http://www.distributed.net "But can i bring a few companions on this ride?" - Trey Anastasio
From: Jmratman@aol.com Subject: audio magic cable Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 21:38:13 EDT Does anyone know if you can get replacements for the end of an audio magic cable?? These are the ends that screw down and lock so when you patch from a digital source to your deck, the connection can't inadvertantly be disconnected. Thanks, Jim R.
